Roger Ebert fractures hip dancing, his wife jokesWe’re not quite sure if Roger Ebert’s dance moves would earn the film critic two thumbs up. “Roger in hospital with hip fracture (tricky disco dance moves) but he is doing well, asking for computer, will probably tweet,” his wife Chaz tweeted on Thursday. The 70-year-old took to the social networking site later that day to tell followers he did in fact fracture his hip, but that no surgery was needed. “Details to follow,” he posted. He hadn't updated his Twitter followers by the time this blog was published on Friday, but he did post his review of director Ciaran Foy’s “Citadel.” |

This is no man....its a cybernetic being
Everyone with bleeding hearts for a pompous, arrogant buffoon. You guys think he would've at any point in his life given you a second thought if you had cancer? Oh, poor old fella, what a shame! I hope it hurt incredibly bad, freaking cyborg.

glad he is doing much better and back to his routine...
Wow
so sad!
Gene Siskel died from a brain tumor years ago. Roger Ebert developed cancer in his mouth, which spread and required the complete removal of his lower mandible (jaw bone). He had NUMEROUS recurrences and revision surgeries. Somewhere towards the end of his surgeries the docs tried to restore his larynx, but the surgery failed, and he has been unable to speak. A little odd, and very sad that they both caught such horrible cancers. I seldom agreed with either, but probably agreed with Ebert more. Still, I always enjoyed watching their reviews. I felt very bad for Ebert when Gene died. It was very hard on him. Despite all the bickering, they were great friends. At least we still have Roger's voice in print. I hope he doesn't suffer any more. The poor man has been through hell, and then some.
My sentiments exactly - except I tended to agree with Siskel more often
I'm just glad to see Ebert is out LIVING. I'd rather fracture a hip dancing than tripping on the sidewalk...
the person who is having computer problems...they seem more organized then i ever was. i was a mess...she seems to have the whole thing in the bag.....i support you
thanks kaj .... we have it thanks for you help...and have a good night
ebert is very powerful...he loves it or he hates it....
He changed the way people watched films. His and Siskels reviews could sometimes literally make or break a film's success. Yeah he was that powerful. Siskel and Ebert started on PBS in the 70's and I don't recall ever seeing movie critics before them.
i hope he gets better too. he doesn't look too good right now...he's strong he will overcome!
I hope he feels better soon. I have always valued his opinion on movies.

hE WAS THE FAT ONE
First the mouth cancer thing, now a broken hip. This guy is batting 100.
He posted a review. I love Roger Ebert, he takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
if obuma was not re-elected,this would have never happened.
It must look strange watch him dance with his weird face.
Yeah, but he knows how to write a sentence, which you clearly do not.
I've read his movie reviews every thursday for the past 7 years. Don't agree with his politics, but I love this man's intellect and warmth and decency. Get well soon, Roger! We need you!
He is such a professional in his career and now he is a hero with this awful cancer he has.
Please God don't let cancer take him away.

If you're going to crack your hip in your older age, let it be from feeling young enough to dance. I hope it did not hurt and glad you're okay. Bravo.
I don't get any joy out of him being hurt, but I certainly don't feel bad for him. A few different things I have read about him makes him sound like a self righteous jerk as a person. But I enjoy his reviews, except for the time he changed his thumb rating on Ace Ventura because it became so popular after its release and he had given it thumbs down before it was released. Thats kind of a hacky thing to do.
I met him before his stroke, and honestly, he could not have been sweeter or kinder a gentleman in the entire world. He adores his fans, treats them well and he just loves people. You can tell by talking to him, he is truly interested in who he is talking to. That's likely why he gets confrontational. He cares about what he's talking/writing about.
that's why he's won a bunch of awards... because he knows what he's doing....like it or not...he wins.
The only possible reason I could think that anyone would say that would be if they're ultra conservative, and are the types that get upset when anyone espouses a liberal opinion. Yes, Ebert sometimes gets into his politics on his blog. It shouldn't be a big deal, but like I said, there's a certain type of conservative that just can't abide an opinion opposite of theirs being expressed publicly. They never want a celebrity to voice a political opinion...unless they agree with them, then they give the celebrity a speaking slot at their national convention.
As for him changing his mind on a movie, he does from time to time, as do most people. An example for me is Singles, I couldn't even finish watching it the first time I watched it, then years later, I caught it, and thought it was really good. He should be commended for being able to admit it when he feels he was wrong.
poor man was so sick , thank goodness he has the right wife taking care of him....
Guess I shouldn't laugh at that, but for some reason I did....
tic...(20)
wink...
it has to have its dirty diaper changed at least 20 times a day....smelly.....

Wow... first I thought he had fractured his face, I can sleep now!!!
Roger Ebert lost his lower jaw to cancer and it has also taken away his ability to talk, eat, and drink. Why add to his pain with your nasty comment? Good for him for living life to the fullest that he can.
my eyes get watery sometimes.
today.....sigh–watery eyes ....
He could get a job on the putt putt golf course with that face..
He had cancer and had his entire lower jaw removed you heartless TOOL!
Karma is a b!tch. I'd start getting regular screenings soon if I were you
Best wishes to a speedy recovery.
His face has changed so much...as long as he can do his daily routine thats all that matters and that bad nasty
cancer never comes back.
Mr Ebert, why the long face?
Ha ha. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny! So, Dikkhead, would you find that kind of comment laughable if a 'long face' courtesy of CANCER happened to someone you love?
YAWN ALREADY
LMAO funny!
how its done.....
he's a trooper that's for sure
Boy he's really had some bad luck. I hope he recovers quickly.
How is it "bad luck" to be to dum b to realize that he is too friggin old to be dancing????
Keep your chin up Mr. Ebert.
classy.
2 thumbs up! lol
Its Friday Wes..enjoy the rest of your day!!!!
The hip, always the hip. All downhill now. )-:
Friends don't let crips dance drunk...
Mr. Ebert does not drink
lol
roger ebert is one of a kind.
There goes any chance he has of ever getting a real job.
we sent it in just in case.
70 years old and dancing! We should be so lucky. I really like this guy, even though he gave Fatal Attraction a poor rating.
he is alive.
Agreed.
The guy has no luck, it seems.
be true to yourself–don't be desperate.
he cannot speak either...he speaks through a computer
dont we all speak through computers???
-
they had to take out his jaw and replace it
wow – poor guy.
what's wrong with his face?
He recently got cancer and they had to remove his lower jaw. He is on a liquid diet the rest of his life.
Cancer.
has been through it all
Roger, you are my hero. Rather than falling and fracturing your hip like most people, you fractured yours in style.
You da man!
he's been through heck and back.
I hope it was that ghost of Ryan Dunn that knocked him on his ass.
Naaaah. Ryan is down there roasting over coals as we speak.
Ryan should be done by now. Hope they remembered to coat him with barbecue sauce.
To beleive that, I would actually have to believe that nonsense, prehistoric soap opera script?
That's a pretty disgusting thing to say.
I always liked the fat one better anyhow. He likes normal movies. Not those fancy high brow ones like the tall guy liked.
He IS the fat one
Was he the fat one or the skinny one. On Siskel and Ebert. I kind of think he was the tall skinny one.
He was the "fat one" – the "skinny one" died.
He had cancer and there were complications when he went for surgery. Jaw reconstruction takes a very long time and at some point it might just be too many surgeries.
Hope he recovers soon.
Siskel was the tall balding skinny one.
No he was the fat one! he had cancer and had his bottom jaw removed. He is a prolific blogger, definitely worth following IMHO! He also uses a computer thingy to talk, a-la Stephen Hawking.
He seems to be happy about it
Ooh. Thats just wrong, but kind of funny in a sick way.
