Angus T. Jones of 'Two and a Half Men': My show is 'filth'

For a comedy,  "Two and a Half Men" on CBS brings a lot of drama.

Angus T. Jones, the 19-year-old actor who has played the "Half" man, Jake Harper, since 2003, calls the sitcom "filth" in a taped interview that recounts his religious experience.

"Jake from 'Two and a Half Men' means nothing. He's a nonexistent character. If you watch 'Two and a Half Men,' please stop watching," Jones says toward the end of the clip, which was posted to YouTube on Monday.

"I'm on 'Two and a Half Men,' and I don't want to be on it. Please stop watching it. Please stop filling your head with filth. Please. People say it's just entertainment ... do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you'll have a decision to make when it comes to the television and especially with what you watch on television," he continued. "It's bad news. I don't know if it means anymore coming from me, but you might not have heard it otherwise."

Jones then references "the enemy's" deception, presumably meaning Satan, and assuring listeners that "there's no playing around when it comes to eternity."

He notes at one point in the video that he doesn't want to contribute "to the enemy's plan," and that people may view actors like himself and think, "Oh, I can be a Christian and be on a show like 'Two and a Half Men.' You can't. You can not be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that. I know I can't. I'm not OK with what I'm learning, what the Bible says, and being on that television show. You go all or nothing."

A rep for the CBS show told CNN "no comment" on Jones' remarks.

I am Mrs Sandy from USA, i want to share a testimony of my life to every one. i was married to my husband Williams Jack, i love him so much we have been married for 6 years now with three kids. when he went for a vacation to UK he meant a lady called Mary?, he told me that he is no longer interested in the marriage any more. i was so confuse and seeking for help, i don't know what to do until I met my friend miss Lina and told her about my problem. she told me not to worry about it that she had a similar problem before and introduce me to a man called Dr Joel who cast a spell on her ex and bring him back to her after 3 days. Miss Lina ask me to contact Dr Joel. I contacted him to help me bring back my husband and he ask me not to worry about it that the gods of his fore-fathers will fight for me. He told me by Three days he will re-unite me and my husband together. After three day my husband called and told me he is coming back to sought out things with me, I was surprise when I saw him and he started crying for forgiveness. Right now I am the happiest woman on earth for what this great spell caster did for me and my husband, you can contact Dr Joel on any problem in this world, he is very nice man, here is his contact akhidenorlovespell@outlook.com He is the best spell caster how can help you within three days.

Talking about biting the hands that feeds you. After all that money he made off of the show, he pulled this crap on them? If he hates it so much, causes a conflict in his belief and inner-peace, why does he not just up and quit? And don't give me that ohh there's a contract bullcrap! I'm sure with all the money the show has handsomely paid you, you can easily buy out the remaining of your contract! Unless, you know, what's another year if you can add another $8mill. in your pocket? I'm sure God will forgive you for that justification, right?

There are people out there hurting, that need to hear this. There are people being affected by the words they hear and they don't even know it. This kid is standing up and being a witness for what HE believes. If you don't like it, fine, but don't trash talk him because of his money. I'm sure he's doing what he can in time. This kid, I feel, has a calling on his life. Out of good that he is speaking.. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in his eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? - Luke 6:41

You are absolutely correct, Erica. People DO need to hear him. And call him on thereligious zealot BS that is spewing, uncontrolled, from his mouth. Seems everyone here thinks he could do better by giving all that money to a better cause than giving it to a murderous cult that is Xtianity. He could very well give some, if not all, of his "devil money" to help the people that won't be having a Xmas this year because a natural disaster destroyed everything they own. That plank of wood in the eye? They'll be using it to keep themselves warm during the holidays. Or maybe...just maybe, he actually decided to follow Xtianity to the letter and decided to abandon his family and hate them so that he may love only Jesus =Matthew 19v29. Or maybe he just decided to hate himself so that he may love only Jesus = Luke 14v26.

I hear you Erica. He's found his faith, now he has to start somewhere. He'd be a fool to just walk away and have to pay CBS a dime due to his beliefs. We are all allowed to believe what we believe. I am so proud of Angus for taking a stand at such a young age, and possibly at great financial cost to him for future revenue. I just pray God's protection over him, as he comes to the full knowledge of God and know that God will protect him, even if he as to walk away. God Bless you Angus T. Jones.

I'm atheist and I love life. I don't go to church, I've never been to jail, I own a home and two nice cars, I have a great job, I have a beautiful wife who loves me just as much back. But the most important thing is that I don't hate on those who have different religious views than I. Oh and I don't push my beliefs on others either.

I fully expect replies saying I'm going to h-e-double hockey sticks, but I guess that makes me the better man doesn't it? It's impossible for religions to co-exist in this world and that saddens me. But hey, if your God forgives you for saying that to me, whatever I guess... :)

I'm glad he has a personal faith. But he's really young in that faith, and completely immature. Nevertheless. his "religious handlers" sensed an opportunity for a "great witness," so they rushed him in front of the camera so he can blather on about a spirituality that he doesn't even understand yet. I feel sorry for Angus. He didn't get a childhood, because he worked all through it, and now extremists have convinced him that what he did was evil. So he can't enjoy life now either. I hope at some point he'll realize you can have faith and not be a complete stick in the mud. And I hope he'll quit judging his fellow entertainers...and everyone else, for that matter. That's God's job. But most of all, I hope he'll eventually see through the shallow people who are influencing him right now.

However, as others have suggested, this is one of many, many, many shows that are filth and not appropriate for kids or even young adults to watch. And if you really want to watch shows that promote lots of disrespect and questionable behavior for kids...why don't you try watching The Simpsons and South Park, and I'm sure many other shows out there! I know a little of Xtianity...Exodus 32v2 says to kill anyone that works on Sunday. Exodus 32v26-39 God told Moses to kill a whole village in his name and over 3000 people died that day. Exodus 12v29 God kills ALL 1st born in Egypt (even the cattle) as repayment for the treatment of his "chosen people". Jeremiah 19v9 God makes a whole city commit cannibalism. And the list goes on....Now, with that being said, this sounds just like the religion I want to adhere to. Hypocrisy? That's being too generous. Until the day comes that ALL Xtians kill people that work on Sunday, they will always be hypocrites. Picking and choosing verses in the bible you like and ignoring the one's that make you feel uncomfortable is unacceptable. Xtian's either need to start living "right" and following their own laws to the letter or they need to get a big plateful of shut the h3ll up. Just sayin'....

Dear Mr. HighHorse...By all means, allow me to retort. Let's talk a little of the NEW TESTAMENT, shall we? Mark 7v9-10 says you should kill your children if they blasphemy God. Matthew 19v29 says God will reward you for abandoning your family for Jesus. Luke 14v26 says you should hate your family and yourself in order to love only Jesus. Oh, and let's not forget...Luke 2v23 says ONLY males are holy to God. And my personal favorite, Matthew 5v29-30 says you should mutilate your own body "if it offends you". How, in any way, does all this sound even remotely reasonable? Does THIS qualify as adequate for justifying Xtianity as a sick, twisted, murderous religion that glorifies a hateful, genocidal, bloodthirsty God? How much blood has been spilled in the last 2000 years in the name of your God?

And what exactly do you mean by "I'm reading from the Old Testament."? The Old Testament is the very foundation on which Modern Xtiananity as well as Islam and Judaism, is built. Surely you wouldn't build a new house atop an old foundation if you thought that foundation was flawed? I would certainly hope not. But it sounds as if you have done just that. Built a "House of God", i.e the holy bible, atop a very old and flawed foundation. And...if you knew, much later, that you had built a new house atop a flawed foundation and knew that eventually it would fall, would you not go ahead and tear the whole thing down and begin anew?

Actually, Angus has a buzz cut because in the series, his character Jake joined the US Army with his loser friend Eldridge. You know, there are a lot of accidents that happen in basic training. Jake has been notorious for doing idiotic potentially lethal pranks throughout the entire history of the show. Maybe if he bets one of his fellow soldiers that he can hold his head inside a deep fryer for five minutes... or maybe playing Russian Roulette with an M-16... If they can kill off Charlie Harper, the original main character of the series when he became "inconvenient", they can easily kill off Jake Harper. Bye-bye Angus!

Water over the dam, but still worth mentioning: According to Boston Globe, Deval Patrick was out and about campaigning for POTUS in swing states - demonizing his predecessor Romney for Obama - while MA was in crisis over the state drug lab fiasco and prison inmates were being released. Deval is close friends with Obama. All is fair in love and war - Romney went into the campaign knowing Patrick and Obama are close friends - no doubt Patrick's active involvement help sway votes to Obama's side. Patrick was extra motivated by an original intent to seek the A.G. position. Eric Holder probably did not like it - even resented it. Perhaps that will be enough to make Holder want to sing to Congress? Yes Obama, "all is fair in love and war."

Truth is the show IS the trashiest show on network TV and being on it certainly lends silent approval to the lifestyle protrayed. Good for him for saying what he feels knowing that employers, friends, family and fans will be coming at him from all sides. You hit the nail on the head on multiple points. I was responding to talk radio this morning about the same thing, when the pundits on the air were criticizing Angus for only speaking up now that he's got all his money. But that's not the case. As you said, the writing went down the ******. It wasn't always like that. It was about the time Ashton came on, somewhat before, where every word out of some of them refers to bowel movements, associated smells, details, and other gross-out verbiage – particularly from Alan and girlfriend – that we couldn't take it anymore. What once was – OK sometimes edgy – an often warm and charming show has gone recently to completely vile dialogue and situations. I applaud Angus for speaking up, and he has reason to now that is definitely a matter of timing, in kind with the strong deterioration of the quality of writing geared towards 13-year olds, if 13 year olds should be subject to such vile adult or bowel-inducing material.

Filth is subjective. One might find tattoos filth, while the Polynesians feel they are sacred. One might feel body piercings are filth, while many tribes all around the world feel they are a right of passage. One might feel giving a child wine is filth in behavior, Catholics might feel it's an important sacrament instead.

So Christians who feel like they should stand in judgment of someone and their "filth", should remember that the world is a bigger than their backyards.

Top Ten Signs You're a Christian in Name Only
10 – You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.
9 – You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.
8 – You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.
7 – Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Al lah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!
6 – You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.
5 – You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.
4 – You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs – though excluding those in all rival sects – will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."
3 – While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some id iot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christian
2 – You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.
1 – You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, catholicism and church history – but still call yourself a Christian

"I know a lot of Christians. I know a lot of atheists. " Bob, I hate to tell you; half of the Christians you know are probably atheists. A lot of us find it safer and more profitable to be publicly associated with a church; it helps in business and keeps your children from being attacked at school by Christian children demonstrating God's love. Atheists willing to be openly atheist in a society where children are taught to hate non-Christians are generally rather brash and aggressive(until they are ambushed and killed for their beliefs).

I feel bad for him. He has been raised in this environment since he was a young child. Who knows what all he has been exposed to. As a child, his options were not the same as ours. He probably believed he was not allowed to leave, but maybe he was too young to grasp what was going on around him at the time. It sounds like he's just now coming to terms with the life that was created for him, and is battling with how to separate that from what he feels deep inside. I have a feeling much of what he expressed is not about the show itself, but about the lifestyle he has been brought up in. I hope he is able to resolve this one way or another and will find true happiness.

Maybe this is just his way of beginning the process. Of course, that also means he’s gonna take a long time gettin’ rid of this “born again” image as well. Let’s see…dumb kid-born again…that’s what I’d call a double whammy! Of course, all that money he’s made will surely help heal all the pain and suffering he’s going through! If he thinks the show is so badhas he tried to leave? If he is stuck in a contract he can't get out off, he can just be as big of a jerk as Sheen was. Then maybe the producers will fire him, have his character, now apparently in the Army, transferred to some post north of the Arctic
Circle, and find a new kid to be the cute "1/2 Man". Maybe Ashton Kucher's character can adopt a young, recently orphaned cousin or nephew.

If this person was gay, black, or old, and said they didn't like the show they were on because of their beliefs or convictions, we would cheer them on, but if someone decides they don't like the "filth", and I do believe it is at times (I've watched a few episodes), why is it so hard for people to accept his decision to speak out about it, and not trash talk this guy??!! I feel bad for the other cast members, excluding Ashton Kutcher, who do a great job and created a great ensemble when this program first aired 10 years ago. I still watch the reruns of "Two and a Half Mean" and really enjoy it.

Stand by for a national casting to replace him. At least Charlie acknowledged millions of people liked the show! I'm sure they are working on writing him out, or finding a look alike actor to take over. But he is definitely done on the show. They might let him finish the season, then they will replace him or end the show depending on ratings.

Assuming that this isn't just some cheap publicity stunt and this guy genuinely believes what he says, then good for him. Not everyone in this world is lucky enough to have a life-altering religious experience, and I'm happy that he found a path to God that works for him. Having said that, why is it necessary to belittle the very industry that made it possible for you to live such a privileged life? Okay, maybe your parents forced you into acting when you were a child and it was never something you wanted to do, but that's in the past. Despite being famous for being Two And A Half Men's resident half-man, you're an adult now. If you have such powerful objections to being on the show, I can understand that. Charlie Sheen certainly did. If it's such a toxic environment, why are you there? You're one of the richest teenagers in Hollywood...you can do whatever you want! Plenty of other opportunities await for someone like you. Even if you wanted to leave the industry altogether and completely dedicate yourself to your new faith, so be it. But you testified in the video that you believe people will live for God or live for the world with no middle ground in between. You say that you choose to live for God, yet you choose to continue working in a place that clearly violates your conscious and moral standards? There's a word for that...hypocrisy. Stop whining, decide what you want for your life and your future, and stop making such a spectacle out of it.

I agree with this young man, the show is just too slimey, and that's a shame. All the actors on the show are really funny, so I don't see why the producers can't cut out the vulgur stuff, and just have a real funny show. I hate it that the movie theaters show the same kind of trash, when they could still have a good product for people to enjoy more. I usually love the story told in a movie, but cringe at some of the language used. But, one thing young Angus should be aware of. Listen and think clearly about anyone who "leads you to Christianity." There are slime balls in religion also, so don't get near the kool-aid (i.e. Jim Jones in Ghana). Just think for yourself, don't be led down the primrose path by anyone, and if your religious leader shows too much interest in your income, beware, and hold on to your billfold.

Blame your parents for agreeing to allow you to do the show, but don't blame the show. If you're such a grown man solid and confident in his convictions, walk away from it, but don't try to drag everyone else down because you think you found God, or have stumbled upon some higher plane. It's sad that the US. has sunk to such an appalling level of decadence and depravity, but it has.

Teenage pregnancy rates in the U.S. rival that of some developing (i.e., third0-world) countries; our academic skills have fallen to horrifically low levels; the number of people incarcerated is equal to that of the population of three large states; and, our leaders and political system (both parties) have become corrupt.

    We’re in trouble.

Two and a half men, or any other television show, is not the reason for the moral collapse you lament. It's parents not parenting like their parents did, and it's been going on since well before TV was invented.. It's us, Barry...you and me, and everyone else. I'm teaching my kids in the way that I want them to be...not because of a TV show, but according to my set of values and morals. Here's the rub though....I'm not teaching YOUR kids. That's on you.

In the context of the Bible, "God fearing" means having respect for God. It doesn't mean you need to be afraid of God.

"God Fearing" is not that you fear your God in the negative sense of the word fear. It is in line with respect. If you know God's attributes, His power, you fear him as you would a parent that loves you but will discipline you and say, "Don't cross x y z line or else you'll be in trouble". It is a healthy respect for His will and who He is. Not I'm so scared of God I'm going to run and hide because He's bad. It's a positive term.

But when you "recognize" (if that's really true) that what you are doing is "WRONG", YOU STOP DOING IT. If he had QUIT and THEN said these things, I would have respect for him. BUT NOT when he is walking to the bank to cash his check for profiting off what he thinks is morally wrong. It actually makes HIM WORSE than us who are watching using his OWN LOGIC. Con men work very hard for their money and often make sacrifices to earn it too. And I wouldn't give them too much respect if they said they'd changed their ways, but were keeping all the money they tricked people out of.

If he's "seen the light" and is now "righteous" and feels his gains are ill gotten, and is so bothered by the "filth" that he believes the show to be, it's pretty disgusting for him to sit around and continue to enjoy all the benefits and possessions that he got from selling that filth to so many people and, as he believes, corrupting their minds. As he sees it, he didn't just trick people out of their money, but also actually corrupted them. How is it right for him to continue to find joy in that action by keeping the money & goods that put him financially above most people and came from it

The TASTEFUL thing to have done would have been to tell the show's creators that he disagrees with the show's message for religious reasons and to request that they phase his character out so that he has as little involvement as possible until his contract is up. Afterwards, he could have given a taped message similar to this one, explaining his reasons for quitting, if he felt compelled to, and could have said something to the effect of, "I'm a Christian now and feel that the show's message and content conflict with my religious views."

Instead he chose to be spiteful and say mean spirited things about the show to try to drum up controversy... probably so that friend of his could get more viewers and sell more products on his website. Why is it that people like this become OBSESSED with dogma, but seem to completely ignore everything that Jesus said about how Christians should behave?

I disagree NEwChristina. I think when one speaks out against something they actually participate in AND profit from, makes them much worse than if they participated and profited based on ignorance. All he can claim is his ignorance in why he did it before. But now he states he is no longer ignorant. But if he isn't ignorant to the issue, then why does he still participate and profit. I do not believe ANY Judge would hold a 19 year old kid to a contract that was signed when he was 8. Due to the fact he did NOT have morals at that age, and NOW that he does have them, should be able to get out of something his parents had to sign him into. So I do not believe him quitting today would get him into that much trouble. He just wants the money.

We have, truly, become a world filled with filth and the minute high between shock factors. It has to end at some point, at least for those of us who still value decency. And why would Angus give back money he's earned over the years? Kind of refreshing to know he'll put it to better use, and walk the path of helping others as opposed to the Lohan path.

To be honest, I started disliking the show when Charlie Sheen was still on it. It has outlived it's funniness. With that being said, if this young man believes so highly in his christian values that the show is filth, then yes he needs to quit the show. In addition, don't take any of that filthy money from residuals on reruns. He has basically just bit the hand that created and made him what he is today. Now that he is successful, he wants to badmouth the network and show that gave him his start. This is truly hypocrisy.

    • Anita

Jim, I don't see anyone "crucifying" him. What I do see however is a young man being pretty hypocritical in what he's saying and doing. I don't fault him on his beliefs, but to continue to show up for tapings (when lets face it, Jake is pretty easy to write out)...and take his very large salary (which he's not donated to any charity that I'm aware of) while at the same time dissing the hand that's feeding him along with continuing to be part of that same industry is well...the height of hypocrisy. If he truly doesn't believe in what he's doing now...walk away. He could have negotiated his way out, now...he's just setting himself up for a law-suit he will never win. Kirk Cameron is a highly religious actor, but you don't find him dissing past shows he was on. Jim Caveziel, is another highly religious actor (he will NEVER kiss a woman other than his wife)...yet you don't hear him bashing the industry either. People can be both religious and be in the industry working within their own beliefs and standards....but to bite the hand that feeds you. Not cool, that show has treated him well from what I've seen.

If what you are working on is so morally reprehensible to you then put your money where your mouth is and stand up and walk away. I'm curious how a religious person can condemn their something, then contribute to it. He has a year on his contract, why not just give the money back and quit contributing to this 'filth' you speak of? Is that not what God would want? Or does that not apply because there is too much money involved?

This young man is obviously being coached and has no idea what he is talking about. But that's often how religion works. Do as I say without question or to hell you go.

THIS makes me shudder. I also thought 'mental illness' when I read it. But we all know it's easier to spit on a show on its way out, hiding behind your 'morals', than to actually walk off a show that pays you $350k per! Last spring, I would be shocked to say this, but GROW UP, kid! (and seek help. And not the biblical kind)
We stopped watching the show just before Charlie started spinning out of control – at least publicly. Filth? Sure. But it was FUNNY. Now if 'Berta' comes out as a closet christian, and Charlie posts he's preparing for life in a monastery – I'm really going to be disappointed!

He seeing things from a spiritual perspective now. Angus wants his life to be about serving an Almighty God. If he continues to be lead of the Holy Spirit, of course he's not desiring to be aligned with his tv show acting about things that are disgraceful/unappealing/not worthwhile in the scheme of serving God for good.. I applaud him for seeing the Truth at an early age.getting Bible teaching, I was reading other comments here about he should return the wages he earned on the show so not to be a hypocrit. He says he wants to be off the show, so he'll most likely need to complete his contract ,which is the right thing to do. He's been forthright about the condition and change within his heart to be of service in something good, worthwhie and meaningful now. No need to judge him, In the future no telling what good things he will be able and led to do for the Kingdom of God. He's had a spiritual revelation which is much more satisfying than being a tv star. God can use any willing person and do great things. I don't know if he's been reborn by accepting Christ Jesus as his Savior. Jesus came to do away with the Law. We are in grace now, not under the Law. Without Jesus you are held to pay for your sins yourself and the only acceptable, perfect sacrifice which God accepts now is His Son.Jesus, the prophesized Messiah, who fulfilled every prophesy foretold of his birth, life and death. NO question, Jesus died for our sins and by accepting him by faith into your heart, you are forgiven of your sins. No Christian is perfect, only forgiven to have right standing with our Heavenly Father. The prophets of Old could not have known all they did, but centuries later, it all came to pass. That's proof -no man could make all prophesy happen just as the prophets had predicted it would happen, except God.

The show has changed from the first couple of years to what it is now. It was a lot funnier in the first 2 seasons. Even though it had very questionable views, it is now dominated with garbage.

I don't believe that you can do a show for eight or nine years and all of the sudden change your opinion. Sounds like someone got to him.

No doubt someone got to him, and someone with an extreme point of view. Two and a half men is innocuous – after all, it's a primetime sitcom created in and for mass consumption in a country of prudes, so how bad can it possibly be? To me, this is a clear case of brainwashing where he has 'found' this religious belief and therefore all things in life must be this way. To state his opinions that clearly and with that much dislike for his past tells me that he's regurgitating someone else's thoughts and that he's not thinking for himself at all. But, there's religion for you... it's supposed to be about tolerance, understanding and inclusion along a common-minded intention to do good, but it gets turned into an exclusive, hating clique. Either we embrace what it stands for, or we fight against it once and for all... and I vote for the latter.

Just because some religious individuals misused religion does not make religion a bad experience.
Just because some people don't apply their beliefs properly does not mean those beliefs are wrong.
Just because you believe a certain way doesn't mean everyone has to believe the way you do, this applies to everyone.

This young man might have come to the conclusion that his show is wrong in a variety of ways. Does that make him wrong because his rationale might be lacking in your eyes? Not really. The show is an entertainment show which makes light of some of the worst vices a man can have.

Wait a minute! Here's the truth: All religion is evil. Religion leads people to divisiveness and hate and has done far, far more evil in this world than good. You like to feel like you belong to something and that makes it warm and cozy for you. You think it keeps people's morality up but it does the opposite. Real goodness and morality does not come from religion or God, it comes from within.

      November 27, 2012 at 9:36 am | Report abuse |

i never espoused a belief in religion or even stated that I was religious.

Classifying me as such doesn't really say anything other than that you automatically assume that because someone disagrees they must be religious.

Religion serves a variety of purposes in society. One of which involves teaching morality. The simple statement that goodness and morality derives from within is exactly that...simple.

Ask yourself why there is such a thing as morality? What benefits there are to such a concept? Why would people be inclined towards any view of fairness, justice, kindness, ethical behavior without a consequence for the act? If there are consequences who provides them and why?

      My ten rules?

Once more classifying me as religious, and even more so as one of the religious who believes that Moses came down off the mountain with ten commandment, is once more a fallacy. I am merely discussing the place of religion in our society.

However let me point this out....

Morality and common sense aren't inborn. You wish to discuss fuzzy warm feelings? Any belief that a human being is intrinsically good goes against the history of our species and our natural predisiposition towards survival. If you want to discuss who is living in a dream world....

Modern society gives you the ability to blithely and so very simplistically state morality is inate...try telling that to anyone who doesn't live in "civilized" society. I think you'll find them laughing before they murder you.

      November 27, 2012 at 9:56 am | Report abuse |
    • mk

The only reason another person would murder is because they've been taught that it's acceptable. The point is, people don't NEED religion to be moral, and despite what religions preach, they are promoters of bad behavior. They can justify any bad behavior to suit their cause.

Religion has also promoted the arts, education, charity, and mercy.

If you want to go round for round try doing proper research instead of research which just pads your views. Religion isn't at fault for such attrocities, Mankind is. For every individual who claims to do it for their God there is an imbecile next to him doing it for his country, his family, his genetics, his hatred, his greed, etc.

If you wish to continue to have such a simple minded view of why people engaged in cruelty then feel free. The truth isn't the why, the truth is it is basic human nature to take from another in order to better yourself. Giving to others...that's fighting what human nature is.

Religion is like a fine wine. Too much of both can make you sick. Everything in moderation. It appears to me that the effects of television on the brain are nothing when compared to the effects of being a highly paid actor on a sitcom. $300,000 an episode. You can do a lot of good with that. Feed the poor with it. Start a scholarship program. Those to whom much is given, much is expected. I cannot imagine that much money much less what this ungrateful twit is blessed with yearly. Wanna learn how to barely get by kid? Religion which has for thousands of years promoted violence, intolerance, and hate simply because of a difference of faith and yet we're the ones with the closed minds. Now how about he takes all that easy cash he's made and uses it to line the pockets of whatever reverend, pastor, priest, or other nut job he's listening to. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Try not to make a comment before you know what you are talking about...God fearing doesn't mean you fear or afraid of God, it means you respect Him and try to live up to those standards. Words can have more than one meaning you know.

I've looked up every meaning of fear that I can find and none of them mean respect. Maybe it's defined in Mein Kampf. Fear is the way animals respond to perceived threats. If they meant respect, the word to use is "respect."

You can try to spin that all you want, but ask a random room of people what fear is and if they say respect, they've watched too many gangster movies.

"do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you'll have a decision to make when it comes to the television and especially with what you watch on television,"

I have to agree. Which is why I don't watch television, have cable, or even know what this show is about.

The average American watches 4.6 hours a day of TeeVee. Figure that out. 8 hours sleeping, 8 hours working, an hour commuting, maybe an hour or two for "personal time" – basically most people spend the remaining part parked in front of the TeeVee.

What a way to waste your life, watching drivel like "two and a half men" or "gilligan's Island".

This is clearly a cry for help. Charlie Sheen acted similarly before he had that melt down. Just let me say this, although environment affects us to a degree, we still make a conscious decision to use drugs. And he clearly made that decision. He is having a break down that unfortunately we tend to see in child actors as they grow up. At this point, maybe the show should just cancel cuz no one should get paid 350k an episode. I'm sorry its just bananas when people who do more for human beings get paid only 40k a year. Ugh.

Why not tear down his beliefs? If his belief is strong then nothing will shake it right? Either way belief requires faith and faith is believing without evidence....that's not a good thing....in any way. You should never believe something because you were told it's true. If he would take the time to research it he would find a library of information that goes against those beliefs.

I question the fact that Jesus seriously cares about whether or not you watch Two and a Half Men, and the fact that The Devil is a producer of the show. Has this kid become too mature for the show he stars on? Probably, since it's written for 12 year olds. Is this show a harbinger of the End Times? Doubtful.

The Chinese support the slaughter of 40,000 elephants a year because they think ivory brings them good luck. In India pre-teen girls are sold for goats so they can be worked to death in brothels. A few hundred people control all the wealth in the world, and they'll destroy it all before they give up a dime. If you are honestly looking out for "The Devil's" work, you don't need to look far. Being rejected by Hollywood is a wonderful testimony. Hollywood does not scream "morals", quite the contrary. Wonderful if God called him to His service here on earth. Do you believe that everything that exists came from one big random bang? If so, there is nothing to live for. Angus believes, like I do, that there is a God who created all things and our purpose it so glorify Him and enjoy Him forever. This life is only temporary. The kid's heart is in the right place. "Two and a Half Men" is no more filthy than "Family Guy", South Park" or even it's spiritual grandfather "Married With Children". Where it differs from these other dark and perverse shows is that it has less comedy to redeem the filth. Ask any funny person and they will tell you that Rule 1 of comedy is that you can say ANYTHING but it must be funny. And though I finally did see an episode of "Men" once that was funny, consistently the show is simply not funny. Chuck Lorre defines his show and himself as less by his work. Watch "The Big Bang Theory" fade and you see the same craft of crap as they throw words at the screen in the hopes that the laughs stick. Greed kills art and "Two and a Half Men" is "Exhibit A" in the death of comedy. But hey, folks watch it so there is plenty of cosmic blame to go around. If only we could laugh our way past the grave of society.

The kid is clearly a religious nutter. Still, he isn't telling us anything that isn't patently obvious. This show has always been trash.

So you admit he is right but libel and defame him? And as for "obvious" obvious because you merely said so? So whatever you say is true because you said so, with no explanation, and yet you call him the "nutter"? Grow up stupid sinner, and repent already. Isn't it obvious you're a sinner who hates God because God asks you to submit to him properly, with love, (rather than ignoring him), and merely despises this person for reminding you of that? Instead of bashing God how about loving him? Why do you hate "Don't murder" "Don't lie" "Don't steal" "Honor your father and your mother" and not making up imaginary gods and bowing down to them? Oh: because you do all those things, in your heart at least. But that's obvious.

fblove. Who said he, or anyone else, hates those? You bring up all these 'behaviors' as though humans only get them through the bible. What about other cultures in the world that are/were not Jewish or Christian and don't believe in murder, lying or stealing? Where is the conundrum realizing that 'honoring your father and mother' might simply be an innate human desire via our relationship with and dependence on them?

Nothing in the bible is at all "miraculous" advice/sage. It comes from humans, who have a human experience and have decided, for ourselves and those around us, that certain laws would be good for an orderly society. I'll give you that it was probably God who said not to mix dairy and meat though, cuz I tell you, as a human, I can't for the life of me understand at ALL why that's bad. Cheeseburgers, blue cheese covered steaks...delish.

He doesn't have to give the money back, he doesn't have to break his contract. People go through phases whether they are in college, working at Wendy's, or making $350,000 to act in a television sitcom. So much envy and hate in America... would be horrible to live with that in your heart.

At end of video he has the self-awareness to acknowledge he could be wrong. Something those who dismiss him here seem to lack.

The point here is that he has an awakened conscience that no longer sees the creation of these entertainment products as some amoral exercise of no consequence. He speaks to it. And the network can't even engage the conversation

The Network's non-response is the most telling. They have no moral base or language to either agree or disagree with the charge. They exist in a fantasyland where the only moral demand is that no moral standards be applied.

If this were only true in Entertainment media we could deal with it. But the same is true in politics, business, finance, and all over the place. If they could create a Reality Show in Hell–they'd do it.

I never was a fan of the show, but it's sad how far into the cult mentality he's gone, and at such a young age. Hopefully this is just a phase and he'll snap out of it. But yes, he will definitely be keeping all of that money he's made from the show, and even with this kind of commentary from him, I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps working until they fire him.

Also, if you watch some of the other videos made by that man he's filming with, the guy asks for $$$ at the end... that's what it always comes down to with these evangelical know-it-alls. They insist that the endtimes are upon us, yet they still demand money from the flock to keep adding onto their lavish mansions. It's a business that I could get into easily, if I lacked a conscience. You wonder why they need that money if the world's going down in flames any day now.

  410. Just my thoughts

Romans Chapter 3, Verse 10: "There is NONE righteous, no, not one" (Christian or non-Christian). I would say that the hateful comments posted from all sides prove this verse is true.

Matthew Chapter 7, Verse 5 says: "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" A verse ALL of us (Christian and non-Christian) might want to think about before judging others.

Faith is a choice, and I choose to believe – just as Angus has chosen to believe (good for him). I have not chosen to believe blindly...I have searched scriptures for years, prayed for guidance, and begged God to prove His existence. He has done so by answering my prayers through the loving actions of friends, family members, and even strangers at times. Just when I had nothing in the fridge, a friend would call and ask to treat me to dinner. Just when I didn't know how I was going to make my rent payment, someone would send a check in the mail. When I was down and depressed, a stranger's smile or kind words lifted my spirits. We ALL have these instances in our lives...it's just how we choose to define them. I choose to define these as signs of God's love for me personally....meeting my needs in very practical and personal ways. No, he hasn't allowed me win the lottery yet...but I trust all my needs will still be met...just as they always have been.

My favorite Bible verse of all is 1 John, Chapter 4, Verse 8 "God is love". I have no doubt love exists. I have witnessed it firsthand. Therefore, I have no doubt God exists.

My last thought... there is no physical way to prove this side of heaven that God DOES exist; however, there is no physical way to prove this side of heaven that He DOESN'T.

yes, but doesn't the burden of physical proof lie in with "God" to prove to us he is real. Not with us to prove if he is real or not. this cloak and dagger godhood working his will thru friends and family is bs.. that to me is just well friends who care helping or family helping.. they can figure things out on their own to help you.. not god mysteriously having them stop by and see your out of food or what not... its more like for example.. your sister came over.. noticed how bare your fridge and cabinets were.. complained to your mom.. who went and bought some groceries for you. and you think.. wow.. god must of sent mom to get me groceries.. no it wasn't your hypnotized mom getting groceries..

Actually NOTHING can prove the bible is true. The bible as we know it today has been editing so many times over so many years, by so many people in a powerful position I would have serious doubts believing any of it. At the very least science has math on it's side. The bible, blind faith, even the math of the bible is in serious question. the earth 6000 years old ? Come on.

Yes god may exist but he is not the god we have been told about. Want proof ? Proof is, this god gave us free will and loves each of us, Correct ? Then how could he let the terrible things that happen everyday happen while standing by doing NOTHING. Then on top of that put anyone in an ETERNAL HELL. And the fact he stand by while people claiming to be speaking his word steal money for the poor and elderly for salvation, but is actually used to by the Pastor, Bishop , what have you jets, multi million dollar homes, Cars and rolex watches. Stop making religion about money and power and more people may come back around. Today we need clarification. 500 years ago probably not so much.

    • Just my thoughts

Hi Ghodd – The burden of proof is actually on both parties. In my opinion, God has done His part to prove His existence by creating an amazing universe and giving us the incredible gift of life. What we choose to believe about His creation and what we decide to do with our lives is up to us. Have you ever told God you don't believe in Him and asked Him to reveal Himself to you if He is real? What do you have to lose by asking? If He doesn't prove Himself, then you're right where you started and nothing is lost. He's a big God and can handle any questions or challenges we put to Him. Instead of saying, "There is no God because I can't prove there is," have you ever thought, "There MIGHT be a God if he'd just prove it to me"? Regarding the groceries, etc. mentioned above, I should clarify that those were all instances where no one BUT God knew my situation and my needs were met by Him through others. Listen, I realize I will never be able to convince you that God exists, but I do hope I can at least encourage you to keep asking questions instead of giving up altogether. Rogue351, you're right...the Bible has been edited many times. The good news is the overall message is still the same...God loves you, He wants to bless you, and He wants your life to be a blessing to others. I don't know exactly why bad things happen to people, but I do know my times of trial have made me more reliant on God, which in turn has brought me closer to Him. I also know God is a just God and a loving God, and He is working in ways we don't understand. The Bible says His way are higher than our ways, and I believe it. Otherwise, I would understand the chaos of this world. But I don't. Regarding hell...the Bible says it is God's will that NONE should perish. He WANTS everyone to go to Heaven. But why should he allow people to go to Heaven if they don't even believe it exists? If they don't believe HE exists? If they could care less about being part of His work? If you think about it, God is actually giving those people exactly what they want...eternal separation from God. I couldn't agree with you more that religion shouldn't be about money and power. I'm sure you've heard the verse, "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil". Many televangelists, pastors, bishops, etc. have fallen to the lure of money and power...as have those in the secular world. I again reference the verse, "there is NONE righteous, no, not one". That's why we should put our faith in Jesus who says, "I will never leave you or forsake you", rather than put our faith in man who will always let us down. Just wanted to reply to your questions. Hope you have a blessed holiday season.

Wrong, Just my thoughts. The onus of truth falls on the person making the claim; in this case, believers. I never said a magical sky fairy exists – you did. I don't have to prove a negative, or even disprove your claim. You do this with the incredible lack of hard, verifiable, testable, re-testable and provable evidence. Proof of the existence of a god or gods can't be a "feeling" or personal experience you had. It can't be The Bible. It can't be some unsubstantiated claims of miracles or visions, or the discovery of some holy relics or artifacts. Until you can lay down some actual, scientific proof that there is a higher power, the scientific community and critical thinkers will not take you seriously.

So he repeatedly referred to "the enemy"–one possessing deception and a plan. I went to a mainstream Christian school and, as I recall, we at least mixed it up a little: Satan, The Devil, Lucifer, The Evil One, etc., were all in the vocabulary. The hint that he may be synonym deficient seems to suggest a short-changed educational curriculum for working child actors.

There is nothing wrong in the concept of "God" if it were, however we the walking meat sacks tend to mess things up a bit. Now in the name of faith that is supposed to support and save people, degradation, discrimination, and death have become it's legacy. Pick your faith, end result is the same. The only good thing that seems to have come from religion in the past several hundred years is a few people who actually put positive action before words and the renaissance.

not into all the religious stuff but he's partially correct. I'm heavily involved with marketing and advertising and "news" "journalism" Let be tell you that we have figured out, back in the early 1900s, how to use media to direct not only your thoughts, but your ideas and beliefs. Seriously. You can bet with near 100% accuracy that if someone has an idea about an issue or has political beliefs and they watch television news, they've most likely gotten those views from the television, from people like me. We teach you how to think, we teach you what to believe, we teach you who to hate and who to love. And the best bart about it? You'll fight tooth and nail thinking I'm wrong and your ideas and beliefs are your own. And they's exactly why it works. It woks so well that when someone who does it tells you about it, you still won't believe it.
