Drake’s latest performance might have been his most inspirational show yet.
The recent high school grad recently took the stage at Toronto’s Jarvis Collegiate Institute to deliver his graduation speech.
“I was one of those students that, despite the incredible support and despite the incredible knowledge and the incredible love of my teacher Kim Janzen, who assisted me with this graduation … I still managed to fight this education system and tell myself that it wasn’t for me,” Drake said.
The former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” star went on to tell the crowd that he now understands “why this institution is in place for each and every one of us.”
It’s about following through, he added.
“I reached a point in my life where I realized that there aren’t material things that can give me the excitement that I’m looking for,” he said. “There’s a void, there’s a gap in my life that I need to fill. And I needed to sit and think long and hard what that was. It was that fact that I had left a gaping hole in my story of following through.”
Drake, of course, closed that hole by studying hard and earning his diploma.
“97 percent on my final exam. 88 percent in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life,” Drake tweeted on October 17. “As of tonight I have graduated high school!”
After dedicating his diploma to his mother, a retired teacher, Drake said, “I think I’ll sleep a little better tonight knowing that I found a way to follow through.”
