'SNL' spoofs Brad Pitt, brings in big ratings

The original Chanel No. 5 commercial was funny enough, but "Saturday Night Live" of course had to join those mocking Brad Pitt's uber-serious shilling of the women's fragrance.

Taran Killam was the night's Brad Pitt lookalike, with shoulder-length locks and a scruffy beard. The "SNL" actor even matched Pitt's rambling tone as he droned on about journeys, the world turning and plans disappearing.

It all sounded very familiar, until Killam veered off:

"And then dreams wake up and smile at reality ... I'm sorry, is there really no script?" he cracked. "I've been talking to myself for, like, two hours straight and I'm starting to sound insane." And was it just him, he asked, "or do I look super homeless?"

The skit, in which Killam's version of Pitt also promoted Taco Bell and dog condoms, was part of an overall successful episode, which saw a season high Saturday night with a 5.4 overnight rating.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the last time "SNL" performed that well, Lindsay Lohan was hosting. THR attributes the uptick to interest in political comedy, and we're betting having Bruno Mars as host didn't hurt, either.

We're also interested to see how ratings for this weekend's "SNL" will compare to November 3's, which will have comedy favorite Louis C.K. on as host.

What'd you think of this weekend's "SNL"?

SNL hasn't been funny since Belushi. Ok, maybe a few bright spots, but this isn't one of them.

This has actually been a decent season of SNL. I think this is the best cast they've had in a few years.

I unfortunately did not get a chance to see this one, but the pics look great...can't believe Mr. Pitt actually did this commercial, he deserves a look-a-like skit to bring him back to reality.

I did see SNL recently when Jagger was guest, it was awesome. He actually did a skit where he had no English accent. With his thick accent I'm sure that was very challenging. If you tuned in during one of his skits with his hair slicked back, you would do a step back and say "who is that, he looks familiar" then his lips would give it away. Thx SNL you're showing some great stuff lately!

Really? "What'd you think of SNL?" "What'd?" Are you are a journalist, or a valley girl who can't speak proper English?

    • Ahhh....Irony!

      a. "What'd" is a proper contraction of "what did".
      b. "Are you are a journalist".....ok, now you're (that's a contraction of "you are" btw) being funny, right, Grammar Cop?

it is annoying to hear those pronunciations but E News is an entertainment show, not a proper news program. They don't use proper English but casual street language that appeals to many audiences.

I had actually written them off after the first show of the season, but still watched to see if the new cast would find a groove. This episode was a surprise relief. I may just keep SNL on the Tivo list a little longer...

Taran Killam’s parody of Brad Pitt was amazing, and I bet Taco Bell would love it if Pitt actually endorsed the Doritos taco. This season is shaping up to be one of the best in the last five years. I love SNL, but I work nights at DISH, so I caught up with it on Sunday since I had it recorded on my Hopper. The huge amount of hard drive space on my DVR helps me keep up with shows when I have time for TV. I hope Brad Pitt has a good sense of humor about the sketch, since the spoof could lead to more endorsements for him!

I loved this weekend's episode of SNL bcuz Bruno Mars hosted and was the music guest. The fact that I was also curious about the Presidential Debate, that's what started it for me. Brad Pitt's commercial spoof was just a side dish, not the entree'.

I haven't watched SNL since Chris Farley, David Spade & those guys were on it. Is it still funny? It seems the only thing I've even heard people talking about in reference to it in the last ten yrs is Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin & Will Ferrel

This week's show deserves the season-high rating (so far.) Mr. Michaels (still) clearly knows what he is doing. Bruno Mars is a huge talent and I love him more now... Hader's Stefon made me weep. Whole show rocked. Nice to Tom Hanks in opener too. Well done!
