Drake graduates from high school

We so hope Drake is somewhere recreating the music video for "HYFR," because this is a reason to celebrate!

The 25-year-old rapper/actor, who (in addition to his music) is famous for portraying Jimmy Brooks on "Degrassi: The Next Generation," is now a high school graduate in real life.

And he did it with high scores, to boot: "97 percent on my final exam. 88 percent in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life," Drake posted Wednesday. "As of tonight I have graduated high school!"

He added in a sweet show of gratitude, "Thank you to my teacher Kim Janzen for spending the last 5 months working tirelessly with me!! OVO SOUND."

As a long-time Degrassi fan – got my whole family involved – I guess... well first, congratulations. I am just flabergasted that an actor on a show about high school, doesn't finish high school during the process? How is it that he walked the path at the time, and didn't graduate while in production? Where was the accountability between production and actors of a youth oriented production?!?

There's nothing dumber than an idiot making a comment about something or someone saying somthing dumb and doesn't explain his reason for the statement. Why is Blue's statement dumb? He's talking about accountability, who was responsible for ensuring that Drake was educated. After all he was a minor while he was on Degrassi. If anyone's comment is dumb it’s yours you might want to go back to high school yourself.

Congratulations to Drake and anyone else for not quitting, anyone can be a quitter but who do you want on your team or work for you, a known quitter or someone who contines to try to better themselves. He didn't have to go back to school so if you look at the bigger picture he must have done this for himself. Don't hate on ANYONE if they want to improve themselves!!! We live in a world where many young people count their success on what their parents have and it shouldn't be that way. Be smart today for tomorrow the challenges only become greater.

I say good for him! There is absolutely nothing wrong with anyone wanting to better themselves. Take me for example, I went in the military straight out of HS in the mid 80's and will "finally" be graduating from college next May. It took me well over twenty years to do, but I too will be proud when its done. Maybe Drake's next step will be college as well, but he needed to make the first step and graduate from high school first.

So pathetic that graduating High School is such a big deal to this guy. I have no idea who he is nor do I care, just wondered what the "big deal" was, when it's something that is just done. I thought it was going to be he got his PHd or somehing, now that's a big deal! High School is a given, no big deal, a shame that to some blacks it is. Now if he got his Bachelor's, Masters or PHd those are more of a big deal, but to me and my family a Bachelor's degree is normal, a shame a High School degree is a big deal, wow.

Yes Adam, you are obviously so much smarter than Drake. While he was making millions, you were sitting in Algebra class. Now that he has made more money than you and your ten best friends will ever see, he decided to go back and finish high school.

Drake = multimillionaire with a HS diploma

      Adam = HS diploma

Wow, Derp. I'm sure you really wounded him on that one. Not having as much money as Drake (which you don't know)...ouch. And I'm sure he's really kicking himself for sitting in Algebra while Drake was "making millions", and by "making millions" I mean starring in an unbelievable lame Canadian tween drama. Thank god there are people like you on here to put fools like Adam in his place.

Live with your shame, Adam. Live with your shame.

You go to school so that you can improve your employment prospects so that you can earn more money and enjoy a better standard of living.

I am no fan of Drake, but he made millions without finishing high school. I don't care if he was an actor on sesame street.

He is richer than most people (which most likely includes Adam) and he decided to go back and finish hight school. Kudos to him. How can a millionaire deciding to go back and finish his high school education be a bad thing.

Oh, Please. Good for him to make a lot of money. He played the chance game and got lucky. He quit school to ride that train as far as it would go. Yes, he went back to school and finished HS. Wow! Does that mean he finally grew up. He should probably just keep that to himself. Does he really want everyone to know he was too immature to finish like normal people. The idiots who keep saying he has more money, that was like winning the lottery. Good for him now lets see if he uses that money and tiny education to do something good and worthwhile bet err than creating and promoting second rate and unoriginal music. Time will tell

Okay, I just checked out HYFR on YT to see who this guy is and why this should be a big deal. Soooooo, he's a jewish rapper. A jewish rapper who doesn't have a musical bone in his body, and from the sound of his lyrics, a middle school education, much less a diploma. Doesn't anybody have a love of the melody anymore? What the hell kinda song am I listening to? No wonder the young generation is so doggone stupid these days! No wonder they can't string together a simple intelligent sentence. People who sound illiterate are your role models. We grew up with Michael Jackson... you guys grow up listening to songs like HYFR. Wow. Do yourselves a favor. Put on some Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. Try some Marvin Gaye or Buddy Guy. Real musicians are still remaking the old songs of guys like Otis Redding, and Lionel Ritchie. These guys are all legends. Nobody... and I do mean nobody.... is ever going to remake this guy's garbage you call "music". Legends don't sound like that.

@Ram: The bomb? lol! Trust me. No he's not. His "music" is garbage. I can't "get into the present" if it has nothing to offer in terms of music. You're supposed to be able to lay back, close your eyes, and let the sounds, the rhythm, the melody take you on a journey through the song. An illiterate dude talking fast over off-time bass and snare drums isn't gonna take you there. Eminem has more melody and music than this clown.

Anyway, why are you so mad a black people? I can tell you that there are millions of african americans that are getting educated and doing great things around the world. I just attended a minority M.B.A conference in Indianapolis and was pleased to see how many "monkeys" as you say were small business owners and CEO's of large firms. Now, Im not trying to turn this into a history lesson, but I think the black community is doing pretty well considering that just a little over 50 years ago certain types education was not really an option for most. I dont know...maybe Im dreaming but I really hope you find a way to find peace within yourself because its not healthy to live with that kind of hatred....and this goes for anyone White/Black/Asian/Hispanic...etc who cant learn co-exist. I really dont think you hate black people....I really think there is something you hate about yourself that you are projecting onto others. There is counseling for that....you should seek it. This goes for all who comment with racial undertones.

Congrats drake. People really not to be so negative. How many people went to college to get a job to make money? Drake got his money first. If I could create a mousetrap that was morally sane and make a lot monet, I would not gone to college neither. By Drake going back his high school diploma, he is showing it meant more to him just a piece of paper. People really need to get them a life.....

I don't think people are being negative. They just think its not really news worthy, several of those kids at that show went to school concurrently through at home teaching programs. It's not like it has never been an option for him before. But I think that everyone should value education, no matter what age.

I give respect to Drake. He was raised by his mother who got very sick with a life threatening disease when he was 15 and he was one credit away from graduating, when he dropped out to make some money to pay for her operation.People love to judge without knowing all the facts.

I mean I can understand why you would be bitter. He is a 25 year old millionaire and you are most likely a 60 year old fat housewife.

Idk where u got ur info from, he was not ever poor and he says that striaght up...he lived in a nice surban neighborhood and his mom was a teacher and his dad who split was a successful blues singer. I love Drake went and saw him in concert but I know him as Jimmy Brooks. And good for him, people are so negative.......even with his millions of dollars he still wanted to have an education bc he knows that he will not be famous forever

Good job Drake. It takes balls to value education over money these days. So many of our youth have forgotten their past. You can loose money but not your education. Slaves were killed back in the day if they were caught with a book and denied an education. But none were killed for having a dollar in their hand. The value of an education is undeniable!!

Goodness to the people who would actually put someone down for graduating late, shame in you. Some people have many hardships in their lives that hold them back. At least he pulled himself back up and succeeded..people talk about bullies in high school causing kids to kill themselves..here on this forum we have adults who feel they are better than those who didn't do as you did!! CONGRATS to drake and anyone else in this situation. I sure hope these negative people have perfect children and grandchildren..I'm thankful all my children have done well in life. However it doesn't make them better than anyone else.

he didn't have "hardships".......he left school to be on a television show and then started rapping – TO MAKE MONEY....he gave up his education at the age when it should have been the most important thing to him AND his mother. shame on her for not putting school first. his talent would have always been there......they should have waited until he graduated from University to begin his career. but no- the almighty "dolla" was more important.

Dear NRJ, first you insult people with special needs by calling me retarded. Second you clearly have questionable values when you think that selling a copyrighted "tape" of other people's music is acceptable and demonstrates talent. No the only one here with a special need is you. I don't hate, I just don't respect his supposed success. How is a great success that he finally finished what he started 10 years ago. If all he wants to do is make money then he has succeeded but is it news, it a role model for people. I think not. Just guy who got lucky. What if that mixed tape hadn't sold well. Would he have gone back to school? Oh, you must have missed the day in English class where they taught how to spell audacity that high school is two words. Oh, my goal in life is not to make money it is live life as an educated person who appreciates art, real music, athletic prowess, science and intelligence. Not luck.
