As writer/producer Bryan Fuller tweeted Wednesday, "'Mockingbird Lane' lives!"
… Well, kind of.
The NBC project, an update and reboot of ‘60s sitcom “The Munsters,” has been in development since last year - and now, at last, its trailer has premiered.
As the 3o-second clip shows, “Mockingbird Lane" has a plot that's still based around a family of monsters and their familial monster-ness, but it’s also snazzier than the black-and-white original.
We see the vampiric Lily Munster (Portia de Rossi) spin out of a pillar of smoke, her skin crawling with creatures, while her husband, Herman (Jerry O’Connell), is shocked back to life. A dragon lifts its head to the moon, blowing flames, and a dinner guest is threatened by Eddie Izzard’s Grandpa Munster (it’s a joke).
Fuller’s “Pushing Daisies” — his last series, about a pie maker who could wake the dead — had a similar overripe appeal: clever, heartfelt and ghoulish, with wild decorations.
NBC's opted to air “Mockingbird Lane” as a special Halloween one-off on October 26. But Bryan Fuller told TV Guide that there’s still a chance the show could bring itself back to life again with a full-fledged season.
Will you be tuning in for “Mockingbird Lane”? And which Munster have you missed most?
