Sophie Simmons talks 'X Factor' eliminationSophie Simmons didn't make it into the Top 24 after this week's round of eliminations on "The X Factor," but the daughter of KISS rocker Gene Simmons isn't letting the elimination deter her dreams. The 20-year-old singer auditioned because she's determined to make it in the music industry without the aid of her famous dad, and she told The Hollywood Reporter that she's not going to give up now.
"My parents told me not to quit," Simmons told THR, and this will only make me stronger and push me to try new things." Although viewers didn't get to see it, Simmons sang Sara Bareilles "Gravity" and Selena Gomez's "Love You Like A Love Song" during boot camp. Those tracks didn't help Sophie stay another week, but she tells THR that winning actually wasn't the point - it's a message she had to tell her dad, too. "Your parents can be whoever they are, but they are still going to be worried parents," she said. "He really wanted me badly to go through, and I tried to explain to him, I am not here to win a singing competition, I am here to show the world who I am ..." Now that she's back at home, Sophie's coaching girls volleyball and finishing up school.
