All was quiet on the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie front for months, aside from the occasional actor offering to do full-frontal, but we finally got an update on Monday.
The film, based on the erotic novel/Twilight fanfiction by E.L. James, will be written by Kelly Marcel, whose credits include the forthcoming Tom Hanks vehicle "Saving Mr. Banks" ... and "Terra Nova," leaving some curious how she'll handle the saucier aspects of James' story.
"She is praised for her 'flawless structural technique' [and] Kelly Marcel is known for work on ... 'Terra Nova'," observed CNN.com reader madhatter91. "Those sentences are too close together." Added commenter mdell27, "If the movie doesn't end up being rated NC-17 then I won't bother watching it."
Meanwhile, the jokes on Twitter ran along the lines of, "How do you seduce a man with a dinosaur?"
Even author/filmmaker Bret Easton Ellis, who recently debuted the trailer to his own steamy film, "The Canyons," weighed in with skepticism ... OK, perhaps more like straightforward outrage:
"Kelly Marcel?!? KELLY MARCEL?!? Kelly Marcel is WRITING the script for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'?!? THIS is the movie they want to make? ARGH."
But aside from who was chosen to pen the script, other CNN.com readers were just perturbed that the "Fifty Shades" movie was happening in the first place, with the scriptwriter just being another sign of the impending film:
And then there was commenter krazyjjang, who's unclear as to what everyone's so excited to see in theaters: "[I] already saw this movie," krazyjjang wrote. "You can see it on any porn site duh."
