One of Disney's long-awaited projects is finally galloping its way to the big screen, just in time for 2013's summer blockbuster season.
And, judging from the tone of the new trailer, a stylized, booming blockbuster is exactly what director Gore Verbinski and executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer are angling for.
Armie Hammer plays the titular Western hero in this version of the "Lone Ranger's" tale, with Johnny Depp as his partner, Tonto.
Although Hammer's mentioned that there's a "buddy comedy" angle to Verbinski's "Lone Ranger," the new minute-and-a-half clip leans heavily on the action. We didn't laugh, but we were intrigued by the sweeping landscape shots and the rapid-fire scenes highlighting speeding trains, gunfire and an explosion.
And then, in a momentary reprieve with our two heroes atop their horses, Tonto tells the Lone Ranger, "There come a time, Kemosabe, when good man must wear mask."
"The Lone Ranger" arrives in theaters July 3, 2013.
