Schwarzenegger: 'I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria'For Arnold Schwarzenegger, promoting his new autobiography, “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story,” means finally opening up about his affair with his family’s housekeeper. The tryst resulted in the birth of Schwarzenegger’s now teenage son and, eventually, the end of his 25-year marriage to Maria Shriver. In an interview with “60 Minutes,” to air on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/PT, journalist Lesley Stahl asks the former governor of California, “So you lied to [Shriver]?” “You could say that,” Schwarzenegger responds. “I think it was the stupidest thing I’ve done in the whole relationship,” he said. “It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids.” In an excerpt from “Total Recall,” published by ABC, the actor shares the moment that Shriver learned of his infidelity.Shriver apparently made an appointment for the pair with a therapist after Schwarzenegger’s term as governor ended in 2011. “The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, 'Maria wanted to come here today and to ask about a child - whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred,’” the passage reads. “I told the therapist, ‘It's true.’” Schwarzenegger’s autobiography will be available on October 1. |

I totally disagree with you. There are some who inflict so much emotional damage that it's difficult to overcome. Time doesn't always heals all wounds – it may lessen them though. He sounds very narcasistic and if that is the case, he will never be able to have "real feeling" for anyone but himself.
It's bad enough he fathered a child with that housekeeper...and how fugly she is is an even bigger slap in the face. His d*ck must look like a cheese pizza with everything on it!

Of course, not only should she forgive him for his lies and affairs throughout the marriage, she should stay married to him and prove to their children that a lying and cheating father can lie and cheat all he wants, but his wife should take him back or she will be seen as vindictive and unforgiving. A very good model for father and mother, excellent model for marriage.
After watching the 60 Minutes interview last night, both my wife and I questioned his sincerity during the entire segment. It appeared that his apologies were empty in tone; and the real premise for allowing the interview was to gain free publicity for his upcoming book release.
Arnold comes across, more than once, as selfish, self-centered, without any concern for the feelings of others as to how his actions affect them. Not communicating to his wife about his committment to run for Governor, and wanting to hide from her his pending open heart surgery, shows both a lack of respect, as well lack of concern for anyone's opinion, but his own.
He must have been a good student of acting, as whatever comes out of his mouth is a lie, whether it be the dialogue of the character he is portraying, or the character that he has created of himself, and for himself exclusively.
I know now why you cry...it is something i can never do.
In life we learn from our mistake,so now that a mistake has occur the next step is endurance and forgiveness I will want Anold and his will to reconciled and still live as ONE you are my best star actor.
The worst part about it is he ruined their lives over a woman tha looks like the "I clean now?" maid off Family Guy. I guess it's true that when the hankering comes on some people just gotta have it then, even if what they're cheating with looks like Jabba the Hut.

I've read quite a few comments posted in response to this article. I came back to this comment because I totally agree. A lot of people were hurt by his actions and he knows it. But as human beings we're not perfect. Hope the family, in particular Maria and ALL of the children, continue to heal.
