'Facts of Life' star Lisa Whelchel on divorceLisa Whelchel, who will perhaps forever be known to us as Blair from "The Facts of Life," is now living the single life. The actress, currently appearing on CBS' "Survivor: Philippines," divorced her husband of 24 years back in March, People magazine reports.
"I just never thought it would happen to me," Whelchel told People of the dissolution of her marriage to Steve Cauble. "It was painful to realize it wasn't going to work out." Whelchel and Cauble were involved in Christian ministry after "The Facts of Life" wrapped up in 1988, and have three children together. Although they're no longer married, they'll "always be friends," Whelchel said. Just nine days after the divorce was final on March 1, Whelchel set off for her work on "Survivor," a career move that was right on time. "Going out to 'Survivor' was helpful for me," the 49-year-old actress said, "to divert my attention and not just dwell on the loss." |

What kind of "Christian" gets married, writes all about how God led her to this decision, dumps him after 24 years, writes about how God led her to THIS decision (God can't make up his damn mind–either that, or he just leads Lisa Whelchel to do whatever it is she wants at the moment), and then–to cap it off–humiliates her husband in very public forums, and using her celebrity status to do so–by telling the world how she never really loved him. (When she was really just bored with marriage and wanted to be on TV again.) And never mind that she abused her children with hot sauce... What a terrible phony!
IWe only know these 'stars' based on what we see on TV. They are people too and they all have their ups and downs like the rest of us. I wish nothing but the best for her and her ex and their children. Her marriage or divorce is none of my business.

You know, my parents put hot sauce on my fingers to get me to stop sucking my thumb; they were big into the whole "discipline" thing. At eighteen, I left home and never went back. My parents died alone. In twenty years or so, Ms. Whelchel will probably learn that karma is a harsh mistress.

Maybe I am unaware since I haven't watched survivor after the first season but wasn't it supposed to be about giving average folks a chance to play the game and win the cash? It now seems to be a show with the purpose of allowing people who have had a chance for fame, a chance to get more snd a paycheck which 99% of us will never see the likes of.
No, I don't think they ever had to be "average" In fact I think the idea was always that you had a variety of players to see the difference in how they played and the strategy they used. If everybody was "average" it would actually make for a boring game, especially after several seasons. Now the argument could be made that bringing back return players is not in the spirit ot the game but since the creator is making the decisions I think he can basically say "It is my game, it is what I say it is"

Cool lady. She decided to have a LIFE after the "fame" of Facts of Life wore off and good for her. Too bad about the divorce, but it happens. She seems well adjusted, compared to others we could mention. If she feels the need to step back into the spotlight with this Survivor: Phillipines, then more power to her.

Why do so many "christian" marriages fail? These people rant and spew how their "christian values" are all it takes to make all things right in the world then they wake up to the reality that their "beliefs" are nothing more than a ball and chain to what really happens to people sometimes. No amount of "preaching" and closed mindedness in organized religion can change the fact that we are ALL individuals with different wants, needs and goals in life. Following the "rules" any one "church" sets for multiple groups of people is not reality. It is giving in to the cult nature that is organized religion. I don't need to follow rules 1 man in a robe lectures me on every Sunday to have faith. My God is NOT locked up in a 4 walled room where prejudices, hate and single mindedness is celebrated as God's word. Divorce is the most heartbreaking thing I ever went through, but you do survive. Lisa is still such a pretty woman and she is obviously strong. She's going to be fine.
