While you were working ...

Today's news you might've missed:

  • A "Happy Ending" seems to be on the way for Elisha Cuthbert (no, no - not that kind): The actress, who stars on ABC's "Happy Endings," is engaged to marry NHL player Dion Phaneuf. [People]
  • Jay-Z, we knew, had friends in high places ... but we didn't quite expect for him to be able to phone in a favor with President Obama. The president was just one of many guest stars at Jay's "Made in America" festival over the weekend. [MTV]
  • Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian and Beyonce were rumored to be hard at work ignoring each other. [NYDN]
  • In memory of deceased veteran hip-hop manager Chris Lighty, Sean "Diddy" Combs did his version of a "moment of silence" - or what he calls "three second of noise" - at his annual Labor Day party over the weekend in an effort to celebrate the life Lighty lived. [E!]
  • No one can really answer the question of why John Mayer cut his hair, not even his hair stylist ... although they seemed to have a telepathic understanding that his longer locks needed to disappear. [Us Weekly]
