Billie Joe Armstrong signs on for 'The Voice'

“The Voice” coach Christina Aguilera finally has her celebrity dream team together.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has joined her squad on the hit NBC talent competition as a mentor.

A tweet sent out by the show’s staff on Thursday heralded his arrival: "Welcome Billie Joe (@BJAofficial) to #TeamXtina! We are ready to rock out in Season 3."

Armstrong joins three new mentors on the singing competition: Rob Thomas (who’s down with Cee Lo Green); Mary J. Blige (Adam Levine); and Michael Buble (Blake Shelton).

Armstrong reportedly began taping his segments on “The Voice" Wednesday; the series went into production last month.

The third season of “The Voice” premieres September 10.

Puleaseeeeeee this loser can't sing in-key at all he is tone-deaf. The only one that can sing is Christina Aguilera.

    • You don't know music

No he can't sing, but at least he can remember the words to one of the most overplayed songs in the history of the world! He actually changed the music industry; She got fat and somehow became a WORSE singer, nevermind the fact that she is as UNORIGINAL as they come. But please, keep letting the world know that you know absolutly nothing about musical talent. F it, YOU should be on the voice as a judge! Because you know as much a XTina, which is NOTHING!

In Grand Prairie, Tx the show was wonderful! Sitting in the bacolny I was worried we wouldn't get the full effect of the dancers but although the venue was good, the whole experience came in very clear! I thought the lighting was blinding at times and over powered the dancers but over all a very pleasant time! The video expression with the numbers/dance were timed and very eye appealing! The finally was tremendous! My wife and I have followed the show every season and love how they give good ordinary kids (not stinking celebrities who receive more than they deserve already) opportunities to use their God given abilities to entertain us!! Nice going dancers and the crew! God bless! Jesus is Lord!!!

Green Day is one of the top most influential bands EVER.
Maybe Billie Joe was doing this so he could get some publicity and people would be like "oh hey I didn't know GD were still around" and then they might look them up and see that they have 3 new awesome albums out.
Jeeze. You people are so judgmental.

When I was in the punk scene I noticed there two camps. The really weird and interesting kids who really didn't care about being popular. They listened to "pop" punk bands like Sonic Youth and the Bhole Surfers. And then there were the not so interesting kids who listened to Pennywise, Bad Religion and all that pop punk stuff. It became clear to me that these kids were outcasts who at heart really wanted to be like the popular jock and cheerleader types. They didn't have the looks or the money so they went "punk." That's Billy Jo. He comes at you like the big rebel but he just wants to be a pop princess like Aguilera.

Took the kids to Green Day in 2009. I wasn't expecting much considering they're a three piece band that isn't Rush. But they had about 5-6 guys on stage, piano and sax. It was a fantastic concert. Billie Joe knocked every song out of the park. This guy has a set of pipes on him! Don't think for one second this guy can't sing. He's a freakin' powerhouse. He sings high and powerful and can keep it up. Not only that, but one of the most obliging bands I've EVER seen and I've pretty much seen them all. They kept calling people up on stage to play guitar, sing "Who knows the guitar in this song? You? Come on up!" Now THAT"S a band.

So far, your opinion is the only one of three I can respect that's been posted on this! You're about the only one that can respectfully give their opinion :) I love you for this stranger on the internet :D (you too @David Fitzgerald and @bandni !)
      -–
anyway, I'm excited for this :) I think Billie has a lot in store for this show and knows what he's doing. He's been around longer than any of the judges, so I'm pretty certain that by now he knows stuff that others don't and can really help out those who want to get into the real rock scene! Like it or not, Green Day is very successful and have over 20 million fans worldwide. If Billie were doing this just for money, he would have probably found a different show like American Idol.

Let's be honest, despite being associated with the term punk since their origin, Green Day was never particularly edgy. Now if Henry Rollins decided to do it, that would be really selling out.
