We can already envision the long lines of kids and kids-at-heart who would queue up to see another “Sesame Street" movie on the big screen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to the famous children’s TV show, and has a writer on board to pen the script.
Longtime “Sesame Street” writer Joey Mazzarino is said to be signed on for the project, as well as producers Shawn Levy, Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and others.
Of course "S.S." is home to some of the most beloved muppets in the world, including Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Elmo.
They all star in the long-running children’s educational program on PBS that has already spawned two big-screen projects, 1985’s “Follow That Bird” (featuring Big Bird) and 1999’s “The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.”
The far-reaching appeal of this new film is obvious: it’s estimated that about one in three Americans has watched the show since it debuted in 1969, plus it has been broadcast in dozens of countries.
The studio has yet to comment on the report.
Maybe Bert and Ernie could move to San Fransicko and end all the speculation?
I want Cookie Monster to work for the Cake Boss, and have Oscar, work with Mike in Dirty Jobs. Put Bert and Ernie on a fishing boat in Alaska doing Deadlies Catch.
"it’s estimated that about one in three Americans has watched the show since it debuted in 1969..."
Only one in three? That explains a lot.
I was really hoping to hear about someone finding elmo floating in a bathtub!
I'm assuming you mean face down...?
oooooooooo cookie monster and oscar the grouch r awsome ... all the others i dont care 4
How cute! I have a 6 month old, and by the time this gets made, she'll be happy to watch this with me!
Should be a real blockbuster.
Long Island is the armpit of America. Yuk.
I see Observer is stealing peoples usernames again. Worst. Troll. Ever.
And the remaining two-thirds of Americans who never watched the show since its inception in 1969 never had televisions.
