'The Killing': Our top suspects

OK, let’s be clear: When it comes to “The Killing,” we do not know who killed Rosie Larsen.

But AMC has their Suspect Tracker and, at last count, the top answer for viewers on the question of "Who Killed Rosie Larsen?" is none other than Jamie Wright (Eric Laden).

Laden’s feisty, win-at-all-costs campaign manager was heavily implicated in part one of the finale last week. And while AMC has promised that the person(s) behind poor Rosie’s death will be revealed in the second half of the season’s conclusion, I’m convinced there still aren't any surefire bets.

To narrow down the options, we've come up with our own list of top suspects. Chances are – in true “Killing” fashion – all of these are red herrings and we’re set to be hit with one of the biggest twists in TV history on Sunday. (Surely they won’t end this story in the anticlimactic way they did the first time around, right?)

Who: Jamie Wright, Darren Richmond’s campaign manager
Why we think he did it: At the end of the last episode we saw him get on the elevator to the 10th floor of the Wapi Casino, where we’re convinced the killing of Rosie began. The cold look in Jamie’s eyes via the surveillance camera would suggest that we have our guy.
Odds that he’s the killer: We know that Jamie will do anything to get what he wants, but murder? It's likely Jamie knows something but I’m not sold on him being the one sole killer. We know Rosie was chased by (as the preview shows) a person in dark clothes wearing a hood that looks eerily similar to what Jamie has on in the elevator. I think he chased her, but I'm not sure he put the nail in the coffin (or trunk), so to speak. If he did, he had help.

Who: Gwen Eaton, Darren Richmond’s campaign adviser and former lover
Why we think she did it: Speaking of help for Jamie, the Gwen/Jamie killer team theory has been a popular one of late. We know Gwen paid some guy to make a video of Richmond shooting hoops, so she has a sneakiness to her. It also turns out that Gwen, her father Senator Eaton and Chief Nicole Jackson (we’ll get to her next) were all chummy a while back.
Odds that she’s the killer: Like Jamie, I’m sure Gwen knows more than she lets on but she couldn’t pull off the murder alone, if she did at all.

Who: Chief Nicole Jackson, Wapi Casino Manager
Why we think she did it: I mean, why not? Chief Jackson had Holder beaten to near-death, and she slammed her lover/head of security's hand in a door during a fit of rage. And there’s the whole story we learned about how Chief Jackson may have killed someone and had her old security head/lover take the fall for her.
Odds that she’s the killer: Too good to be true. Maybe she helped Jamie finish Rosie off or maybe, as her past would suggest, she had someone do it for her.

Who: Terry Marek, Rosie’s aunt
Why we think she did it: Jealousy. We know the night Rosie was killed her Aunt Terry was headed off with Michael Ames until he bailed on her. What if Aunt Terry somehow saw Rosie and Ames together but got the wrong idea? She could have followed them, seen them at the ferry together and thought she was dropped in favor of her young niece. Terry finds Rosie in the woods and dumps her in the trunk but can’t completely finish off her own blood.
Odds that she’s the killer: She’s my wildcard.

So who do you predict will be named as Rosie's killer(s)? Let us know your theories in the comments!

One of the best season finale I've ever seen..... I knew there would be a twist. Very satisfying. It really tied up loose ends. Hope the show is back for season 2.

I'm with LenTurkel, it's the mom. She keeps telling people that they don't understand...I think that's what they don't understand.

I'm confident that Belko is chasing her through the woods, mainly to stop her running away. Not quite sure how she ends up in the campaign car trunk though but won't be surprised if its an Ames/Aunt Terry combo that finally did Rosie in.

That's what I think Ames/Terri. If not then it will be something we didn't see coming like Stan.

The mother has been acting psycho . . . maybe she was angry and knew about Rosie's online activities and the fact she was planning on leaving. Mitch grew up on the wrong side of the tracks – and did not want Rosie to turn out like her. Her strangeness goes beyond grief.

Not sure if my first comment went through. Don't think it was Aunt Terry, except maybe as an accessory. I think Rosie's murder was committed by or at least heavily involves Janek Kowarski and his bad boys, before Janek was whacked by Alexi. Janek has Motive, Opportunity, and the murder Method. Janek is implicated in so much of what goes on in the city (murders, the Ames construction projects, etc.). Surely is involved somehow with the Casino and its revenue. He is known to be a leader of the Polish mob, but seems to be protected by the Mayor's office and the leadership of the police department. Although Janek is seemingly cordial with Stan, he clearly holds a grudge against Stan for leaving the mob 18 years ago. I think it is similar to The Godfather Part I, where Don Corleone is insulted that the man comes to him for justice, when he has not maintained a (criminal) relationship with him. When Stan asks him for help, Janek gives him money for the funeral and burial. But he also covertly works against him. He "helps" Stan by deleting the Beau Soleil files and burning down the building containing the server. He also asks Stan to commit another murder (of the guy Stan scares away). Through Belko, Janek had infiltrated Stan's business and used Stan's trucks to carry out crimes, such as the Beau Soleil arson. He also orders Stan to commit one more murder (the guy Stan scared off). Stan asks Janek to kill the person who murdered Rosie, Janek didn't do it because the killer was either him and/or his mobsters. The murder of Rosie was payback for Janek's grudge. Janek had infiltrated all levels of the city government and could easily obtain the Richmond campaign car. He brought someone Rosie knew (Belko?, maybe Terry? or one of her school friends?) to the Casino, with whom she would willingly exit the Casino. Either he or (most probably) one of his mob boys then abducted Rosie in the car, chased her through the woods< beat her almost to death, and deposits her in the trunk of the car, to end up with a similar grisly death photo as Stan's murder of Piotr M /Alexi's dad 18 years ago. Janek even had the sick audacity to bring Stan in an envelope a photo of dead Rosie in the trunk, looking much like Piotr had looked, though not murdered in the exact same way. He knew it would torture Stan to know that Rosie was alive in the car and drowned. Someone can still be a murderer even if they are killed before a case is solved.

I was thinking Jamie or Gwen with all the evidence going in their direction lately, but same thing happened with Richmond at the end of last season only to be another false lead. So I agree that those would be too easy of suspects, and it will be someone who you least suspect and will appear to come out of the blue. Using that logic, Chief Jackson is also out as that would be too easy. I could see it being Ames, in an attempt to screw over his wife since she has all the money and control, and bringing down the waterfront project would benefit Ames at the expense of his wife...

There have been many moments of foreshadowing with Terry. She had an abnormal reaction to when she saw the photo of Rosie in Stan's drawer, she also reacted oddly when Stan said "I want you to raise the boys if anything happens to me." She was also VERY upset when one of the boys locked his brother in the trunk in Stan's shop (feelings of guilt?). My guess is she kills Rosie FOR or with Ames, or does it out of jealousy.

I acutally think it's Regi, too! If nothing other than she's the type of character that usually turns out to be the killer in mystery novels (we are fully aware of her but have pretty much forgotten about her). My orignal motive was to keep Sarah in town so she wouldn't move to Cali. Plus Anni Corley is a terrific actress that could completly deliver a knockout performance if she's revealed as the killer. Might be a little too typical-procedural kind of ending, but who knows!

  15. Aunt Terry has to be the killer!

My vote is for Aunt Terry too. One thing about this show is that it's NEVER who they make us think it is!

Yeah, no way it's Jamie, given this show's history of red herrings and uninspired fake outs (Veena Sud can claim all she wants her show is brilliant and groundbreaking, but she doesn't deserve to share the same sentence as Matt Weiner and Vince Gilligan, let alone the same channel). They wouldn't give up the game in the penultimate episode.

It'll be somenoe out of left field, but I bet the mystery won't be totally solved, and it'll be some kind of conspiracy so Sud can keep milking this for another season...though it's hard to say if there's anything left to milk, given this show's fanbase has evaporated. "The Killing" meet "Rubicon."

Aunt Terry is definitely the killer. She is the only one that really makes "sense" and will also deliver the shock and surprise AMC is hoping for.

I disagree. Terry does not possess the required size to pursue anyone over broken terrain, and then haul their resisting body (or carry an ambulatory one) back to a vehicle to put her in the trunk. The killer has to be male, or working with a male. She also does not seem to be that psychopathic to kill a child, and then live in her house.
