John Mayer 'humiliated' by Taylor Swift song

Although Taylor Swift didn't explicitly say that her song "Dear John" is about John Mayer, it seems she was right when she guessed that she wouldn't have to.

The 34-year-old singer/songwriter, who's been accused of using ex-girlfriend Jennifer Aniston as inspiration for a recent single himself, told Rolling Stone in a new interview that he was “really humiliated” by “Dear John,” which appears on Swift's 2010 album, “Speak Now.”

In it, the 22-year-old country star sings, "Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?"

Mayer calls Swift’s decision to release the tune around the same time he was already taking a beating in the media for controversial comments he made about his own famous exes (among other topics) “lousy.”

"It made me feel terrible," Mayer told Rolling Stone in a new issue that hits newsstands Friday. "Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do."

The multiple Grammy winner says he wasn’t even aware of how Swift felt about their supposed dashed romance until he heard about the song.

"I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call," he went on. "I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"

Mayer also refused to touch the song’s most telling lines, "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?"

"I don't want to go into that,” he told the magazine.

Lyrics aside, the "Shadow Days" singer added, her song wasn’t even a good one.

"I will say as a songwriter that I think it's kind of cheap songwriting," he said. "I know she's the biggest thing in the world, and I'm not trying to sink anybody's ship, but I think it's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait till he gets a load of this!' That's bulls***."

This is to bad John does need to man up but all that Swift sings about is her lousy breakups maybe it is not the guy but it's her tell her to create something original. Stick to guys your own age swift and possibly just possibly you might have a relationship that last longer then a month.

Man up, John Mayer. You've kissed-and-told on plenty of girls, you can't get salty when one of them gives you the same treatment back.

And for the record, yeah, it is pretty skeezy to screw around with a nineteen-year-old when you're over thirty. Man up and then grow up; both are overdue.

I think John Mayer is being a litle $%#%, I mean really? Also, someone stated they thought it was low to write about a failed romance? Then I guess you wouldn't mark out of music history thousands upons thousands of songs then huh? It is art and art imitates life, that is why she is so successfull. Very few artists these days write thier own songs, very few. Most jsut sing everybody elses stuff.

Seriously, Taylor Swift innocent? She obviously sleeps around so I don't want to hear any sympathy from any of you. Also, John Mayer is an incredible guitar player. It's a shame he doesn't always play up to his potential but he has more talent than TS could ever dream off. Yes, I know good guitar players, so don't give me any of that "listen to other music" crap. He's in the same category as SRV, Richie Kotzen, Clapton, Albert King, and co.

Taylor has worked hard to make her career dreams come true. She has accomplished more so far in her short career than John Mayer ever will in his lifetime. Mayer is a great guitarist ... but that doesn't make him a great human being. I'm sure his feelings were hurt ... but come on, we are supposed to have sympathy for him? Give it ten years, he'll find lower places. She sleeps around? How do you know this? How do you know Mayer doesn't sleep around? He's a famous musician with a lot of money ... I'd guess he gets around quite well. Maybe if you have more information you could defend him ... but don't defend him because he's a great guitar player.

She's handling life's lessons better by turning them into songs that others learn from and making millions at the same time. He's whining at interviews, also making money (MUCH less) and just making pathetic attempts to resurrect what seems to be, a flagging career. If she is smart, she will learn and move on. If not, she will find other predator boyfriends and relive this again and again. For her sake, I hope her future music is more about happier times.

Here's what someone who wasn't full of himself would do – even if you think you're in the right, even if asked specifically about it, take the high road, and don't comment, or give the bland generic "best wishes" kind of comment. Crushes hurt. I don't think he ever touched her. John is a very handsome and talented guy. And she was not a child.. dang..folks act like she was younger.

If he is completely bored with the sport and doesn't even watch the game....gay. If he loves it SO much he wants to go meet the players....gay. Trust me. I've seen it before. There's something not quite right about his over the moon sensitive guy schtick and his world class swordsman schtick. My bet is you were a beard, honey. Hey, David Lee Roth is still available, LOL.

Adam Carolla asked the singer of "Coward of the County", Kenny Rogers about a line in the song. The girl in the song was raped by "the Gatlin Brothers." In the song, Kenny sings, "... and there were three of them" who raped the girl.

Adam asked Kenny, "Didn't you tour with a group of guys who's last name was 'Gatlin'?"

    "Yes." – Kenny

"And weren't there three of them?"

    "Yes". – Kenny

"Well, what's behind all of that?"

Kenny doesn't really answer Adam's clear questions on the subject.

I'm a fan of both Swift and Mayer. I think both are great in their own way...but when a large number of someone's songs are about being heartbroken by different people, after a while you start to think they play the victim card too much and set themselves up for the regular disappointment. I think TS is growing out of that, and hopefully continues to as she grows as a songwriter (songs like "December" show she owned some of that responsibility for messing something up-thank God).

JM seems to be very reflective in a lot of his newer stuff, as you see him try to figure out why he is the way he is...but for everyone who beats up on him, he 1.) has never been married 2.) has never shied away from the fact that he has had a tainted past 3.) has a reputation in Hollywood that these women all know he has been around the block, yet they still seem to go for him. I've seen this with people in real life. It's not only his fault but their fault also for making poor dating choices when they know how the story is going to end. No one is going to change him, only he can do that (and his new album shows he's working on it)...to all the women thinking you'll set a player striaght, you won't. This includes TS. Think about it!!!!

I agree ... I'm a fan of both, too. JM should also know better – If you even think about talking to TS these days, you end up in a song, so he should have seen it coming :) And apparently ... she just wanted to say what she needs to say.

John Meyer may dish it out but sure can't take it, not even from a 19 year old HA! Never have cared for his "music", he appears self centered, moody and whiney. Taylor has more song writing talent, is a better performer and entertainer than he could ever hope to be. Oh and she has something you can't buy, Class. Get your big girl panties on John and pick on someone your own chronological age! What a Major JERK !

The nerve of this guy to accuse Swift of "cheap songwriting". What about how you ripped off Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Tick Tock". You even copied his voice. A total rip off. And you run your mouth about your exes too, so stick it where the sun don't shine. Besides, Taylor Swift has written a song about every boy she's ever had a thing for. So, are you surprised? Just shut up and play your guitar.

They should both apologize for their "music".

Newsflash for hot but otherwise boring 19 year old girls: Men 10 years your senior aren't much interested in your blathering about the Jonas brothers or your BFF. Play your role, try not to say anything dumb, and he'll do the same.

  134. whoooo?

Who is John Mayer? I seriously have no idea. I gather he is a singer, but what does he sing? Is he another American Idol person or something?

I find it hilarious when someone posts on-line that they don't know who so-and-so famous person is, when if they took about 5 seconds they could Google him and find out.

No, John is NOT one of those phony "American Idol" celebrity wannabes! John is a REAL musician and a REAL songwriter who sings his own music! He is MUCH better than most any of those worthless pretty boy idol stars! He does seem to make a habit of saying things in interviews that tend to stir up controversy! His talents are ALMOST as great as his EGO! Just my opinion...

Dang, man up, dude. What goes around, comes around. What did you expect a country singer to write & sing about? Like others said, that's just karma. Pull up your panties and quit your crying. You are embarassing the rest of us guys.

I'll bet you 3 tins of SKOAL that the reason he dates all these hot women and ends up on the outs with all of them so quickly is the same. He needs to show his main audience (girls and women) that he is totally straight and yet he can't stay with any of these beautiful women long enough to find their G spot or even treat them with a little decency & respect because he's totally not straight. His lyrics are so sissy. He's compensating with massive amounts of top shelf trim.

My thought exactly. You honestly have to question this guy's hold on reality or maybe he is just plain stupid...does he not see how ridiculous he sounds? Does he actually believe that no one see's his double standard? He has the mentality of a high school aged boy and his apparent misogyny coupled with an ego waaaaaaay out of control is just too much grossness for a lot of people

Hey John, why is it okay for you to write and sing songs about your exes but it's "humilating" when Taylor writes about your crap? I'm not a big fan of Taylor or the song but that is what music is about – life experiences. Obviously John doesn't like getting caught and not is attempting to get sympathy. Poor poor Johnny M. Way to go Taylor!

Poor babyboy John-just another "player" who created a situation and then can't admit responsibility for his actions.Someday maybe he'll grow up and become a man instead of a 34 yr. old boy who blames other people for his actions–besides, most of the great songs ARE written from the writers personal experiences. Did anyone ever criticize Haggard, Hank sr. or other great songwriters?-"Nuff said"

    Dear John Mayer,

If you feel so humiliated, you should drop out of public life, and stop talking to People magazine and TMZ cameras.

I think we'd all benefit if you did those things.

Or is your confession about being 'humiliated' just another way for you to stay in the public eye?

They are both talented; have you ever tried to write a song? Swift is full of them, and she's way young. Think of what she could write when she's forty and has seen the elephant. Mayer's a decent songwriter and a good lead guitar, and it's hard to play interesting lead guitar. They just weren't a good match.

JM get overself...you are just a womanizer. If you get it thrown in your face and it "hurts" think about the way you are treating women. I think it really comes down to is jealousy not a "lousy" situation. She is bigger than John Mayer and he is having a hard time with his big ego. With that said, regardless of what inspires their songwriting keep the reasons amongst themselves instead of airing their dirty laundry. I think John Mayer is more attention seeking than complaining about the song...again dirty laundry.

It's always seemed to me that Taylor Swift just dates around just so she can have "heart break" and then write songs about those boys. I doubt she was really broken hearted by John Mayer. First of all, yes, she was young, but she isn't an idiot. Everybody knows John Mayer's history with women, she knew what she was getting herself into. She shouldn't be surprised that it didn't work out. And to so blatantly write a song about someone like that, she's just calling out for attention. "Woe is me, I can't find love" is her slogan.
