Tom Cruise's 'One Shot' gets a new nameThankfully Paramount didn't have just one shot at naming its forthcoming Tom Cruise film. The studio has swapped the title of "One Shot," an adaptation based on Lee Child's popular book series about a tough-living former U.S. Army cop, to the name of Cruise’s lead character, Jack Reacher, reports THR. It's the first film adaptation of the literary sequence surrounding the battle-scarred drifter who uses his extensive military training for good.
We'll have to see how fans take this title change, but we do know some weren't pleased when it was announced that the actor landed the role, since the Jack Reacher depicted in the books is about 6’5, 250 pounds and not much of a looker. That description doesn't really fit Mr. “Mission Impossible,” who plays handsome but washed-up rock star Stacee Jaxx in June's “Rock of Ages,” but author Child has said he's "thrilled" with the casting choice. "Jack Reacher" is slated for December 21. |

I congratulate, what excellent answer.
..." but the real problem with casting Jack Reacher is that there is no one in Hollywood who looks like that."...
I thought that until recently when I saw "Kill The Irishman"...Ray Stevenson would make a much better Jack Reacher.
I disagree with your comment in the article that Jack Reacher of the books is not a looker. Blonde hair, ice blue eyes, always getting a woman in the books – but the real problem with casting Jack Reacher is that there is no one in Hollywood who looks like that. The most recent actors appeard in the 80's – Dolph Lungren comes to mind. All the Hollywood Hunks are cookie cutters of each other – not one Jack Reacher in the bunch!
I am also very disappointed at the casting of Cruise...just can't picture him as Jack Reacher, no wayyyy. The movie probably won't compare to the book anyway.
No true Reacher fan is "thrilled" by this absurd and egotistical bit of casting, and Lee Child and Tom Cruise both know it. Lee Child has cynically sold out his audience and his character. Tom Cruise bought the rights and ruined what could have been a stellar franchise by usurping the role. Hey Tom, remember the concept of "willing suspension of belief"? Nobody can push it far enough to imagine you as Jack no middle name Reacher. Both of these guys disgust me, and neither one of them is getting my money.
