Ronson: Adele's success 'freaked out' Amy Winehouse

Adele viewed Amy Winehouse as an inspiration, and it appears that Winehouse had also been paying close attention to Adele's unstoppable success.

Mark Ronson, who collaborated extensively with Winehouse during her career, told the Village Voice recently that he'd spoken to Winehouse prior to her passing about working together again, but that Adele's rise might've set her on edge.

"What little time we had, well, it was tense," Ronson said. "She was in a bad state, God knows why. I think that the Adele thing had Amy freaked out. She liked her, but Adele's success was making Amy feel upset, competitive, restless."

Unfortunately, Ronson never did get the opportunity to work with Winehouse again.

"We lost touch briefly," he recalled. "And before she and I could really start the process of beginning a new album, it was too late."

Winehouse was found dead in her London home last July at the age of 27.

Thank you, I've just been searching for information about this subject for a long time and yours is the greatest I've discovered so far. But, what about the conclusion? Are you certain concerning the supply?|What i do not understood is if truth be told how you're not really much more neatly-appreciated than you may be right now. You are very intelligent.

Amy would never had seen the success that Adele has seen. I think you have to look at the overall performance, character and behavior to get the whole story. Amy should have been freaked out by Adele, looking at what she wanted but was never able to obtain. Probably thinking if she didn't get high that one time, then I could have....

Winehouse was a piece of crap and the music world is better off without her.

Poor Amy – since she's dead, anyone can say anything they want about her. Maybe Amy loved Adele's stuff – but it's better to add angst.

I don't see the hype over Amy Winehouse or Adele at all. Adele has a good voice but it's one-dimensional.

The article doesn't provide any direct quotes from Amy Winehouse suggesting that she was afraid of Adele's success, and Ronson doesn't directly say what Amy told him. The "Adele thing" freaked her out?? What does that even mean?

Winehouse had problems with drugs and alcohol long before she hit it big with her "Rehab" song. Trying to blame Adele and her success for Winehouse's final downward spiral is ridiculous. If it wasn't Adele, I'm sure it would have been something else that set her "on edge." Way to stay classy, Ronson.

It's kind of like comparing the Stones and the Beatles. Both good, but different. Adele strains so when she sings. She's going to blow her cords for good one day.

Amy Winehouse and Adele are two different kinds of singers, with greatly different voices, and style.. I cannot see where Amy Winehouse would of felt threatened or felt like competing with Adele. That to me is ridiculous... I do believe Amy had her demons with substances and that causes paranoia and insecurity.... I think this is a subject that is way out of line for anyone to approach...especially, since Amy's death (RIP Amy)..... Ronson, should be concentrated on his own career not dwelling on Amy's could of should of maybe of been...

Whatever Mark Ronson! Amy would never in a million years be 'freaked out' over Adele. She was battling her own demons with drug abuse and alcohol. Mark please don't put down the woman that made you relevant!

he only brought it up to get his name back out there. I guess since Amy died, he's had time on his hands and needs to replenish his bank account. Lame, dude. Very lame.

I'm sure when Mark Ronson reads the CNN Marquee Blog he'll really take your words to heart. Nice work.

Did you know Winehouse? No, you didn't, so you don't know what she'd think.

Humm I can see that, but Amy was just as fantastic as Adele. It would have been interesting to see them go head to head.. I prefer Amy with the more old school soul/jazz
