CBS passes on Martin Lawrence pilot?

When it rains it pours for comedian/actor Martin Lawrence.

Weeks after the “Bad Boys” star announced his pending divorce from second wife Shamicka Gibbs, he was hit with another whammy. Remember that pilot he shot for CBS, the one that was supposed to mark his TV comeback? The Eye reportedly didn't pick it up.

According to Deadline, the network had initially been enthused about his proposed comedy about a middle-aged single dad who loses his job in construction and is forced into a new career as a cop. Former ”Wonder Years” star Fred Savage had been tapped to direct.

Well, what a difference a few months make: The project was given the green light in February only to be canned in May.

TV fans have waited a long time for Lawrence to return to the small screen: As the Huffington Post notes, this new show would have marked his big return following the success of ‘90s sitcom “Martin.”

That comedy aired for five seasons on Fox.

Hey Martin, love to watch your show on MTV2 every night. There's nothing like the classic Martin show. Can't wait until you get your own sitcom again one day. I'll be patiently waiting on the sideline as I watch the Heat fight their way to the finals.

WHATCHU TALKIN BOUT, WILLIS!? Fred Sanford and George Jefferson morph over time into Whoopie Goldberg and Eddie Murphy: Embittered race philosophers and just not getting the laughs anymore.
