TNT picks up Sanjay Gupta's 'Monday Mornings'A medical drama pilot from CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta has won over the execs at TNT: The network has picked up the show, which Gupta worked on with producer David E. Kelley, for a first season. Formerly called "Chelsea General," the ensemble drama is now titled "Monday Mornings," in line with the novel Gupta wrote that the series is based on. "Monday Mornings" follows a group of doctors in their personal as well as professional lives at the fictional Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon, with the title referring to the weekly confidential morbidity and mortality meetings for Chelsea General's physicians.
The new show will star Ving Rhames as the hospital's trauma chief, Dr. Jorge "El Gato" Villanueva; Alfred Molina as the chief of surgery, Dr. Harding Hooten; Jamie Bamber and Jennifer Finnigan as "hotshot neurosurgeons" Dr. Tyler Wilson and Dr. Tina Ridgeway; Keong Sim (Mike Chang's dad on "Glee," to some of you) as the "socially challenged" Dr. Sung Park; and "CSI's" Bill Irwin as the "abrasive" Dr. Buck Tierney. "Southland" actress Emily Swallow plays a resident, Dr. Michelle Robidaux; and Sarayu Rao plays Dr. Sydney Napur. The pilot was written by David E. Kelley, who will as serve as the executive producer along with Gupta. The pilot episode was directed and EP'd by "The West Wing's" Bill D'Elia. TNT, which is owned by the same parent company as CNN, ordered 10 episodes and has plans to roll them out in the summer of 2013. |

I just finished 'Monday Mornings' and loved it! I was hoping for another book, but I'll watch the series to see if it does justice to SG's characters.
