If you're in trouble, a nearby celebrity might be the one to call.
Dustin Hoffman is the latest in a string of heroic Hollywood stars, as he recently rushed to the rescue of a London jogger whose heart stopped while he was working out at Hyde Park, the London Evening Standard reports.
According to the paper, the 74-year-old actor was walking in the park on April 27 when he saw 27-year-old Sam Dempster, a lawyer, "staggering and frothing at the mouth" before he collapsed.
Hoffman called for help and stayed with Dempster as paramedics treated him. As one of the paramedics, Martin Macarthur, told the paper, Hoffman helped save the young man's life.
"We got there very quickly and it was obvious [Dempster] was in cardiac arrest. He was taking dying breaths so we had to act fast," Macarthur said. "Dustin had turned him over on to his back, which was really useful and would have assisted in making sure his airways were open."
If Hoffman hadn't rushed forward to assist, the situation's outcome could've been "very bad," Macarthur said.
Dempster, who's been recovering since the incident, has said he's "indebted" to Hoffman.
"I want to say thank you to Dustin Hoffman. He saved my life," Dempster told the paper. "I have no memory of what happened. The paramedics told me I had been saved by him. It's unbelievable. I can't wait to go running in the park again." (Dempster, the paper reports, has been given a device that can detect if there's something wrong with his heart.)
And according to TMZ, Mila Kunis is another one who knows just what to do in an emergency. The actress allegedly assisted a 50-year-old man who works in her home when he reportedly began to have a "violent seizure" after collapsing on Saturday.
TMZ reports that Kunis called for medical assistance and then made sure to turn the man's head to the side so he wouldn't choke as a friend placed his wallet in his mouth to ensure that he wouldn't swallow his tongue. Kunis offered to ride in the ambulance, but she wasn't needed, and the gentleman who's said to have a seizure has reportedly made a full recovery.
