Watch: New trailer for 'Dark Knight Rises'

Our summer calendar is booked with must-see films, and we can think of no better way to start May than with a new trailer for one of them: "The Dark Knight Rises."

Warner Bros. released the third trailer for the last installment of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" series on Monday night, one that fans are also anticipating will be screened ahead of "The Avengers" when it opens this weekend.

In contrast with the previous "Dark Knight Rises" trailer, there's no talk of "peace time" in this clip.

The story picks up eight years following 2008's "The Dark Knight," and we get a glimpse of just how sadistic Tom Hardy's masked Bane can be as he wreaks havoc on Gotham.

Batman appears to be MIA, and Joseph Gordon Levitt's character John Blake doesn't know if he's dead or alive, and if the latter, if he'll return. "Hope is lost," indeed.

But while the "adaptable" Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) tells Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), "You don't owe these people anymore; you've given them everything," he disagrees.

"Not everything," he tells her. "Not yet."

What's your take on the trailer? Have you already tried to get a ticket to the show? "The Dark Knight Rises" opens July 20.

I fell in love with Tom Hardy when he played Heathcliff in Wuthoring Heights....he was just as dynamic as Lawrence Oliver in the role, and far more passionate. He is the new Marlon Brando, and Hollywood should take notice of the best actor around. Please don't waste his talents on anymore romantic comedies (which is the scurge, the ultimate dumping ground for anyone who truely loves movies)!!.

  5. SuperHero

After seeing the Avengers I can honestly say its an extremely fun movie but it is hard to take the story seriously when the heroes are joking around during the final battle its like they find the battle way to easy. You really do not feel that NY or the WORLD is in danger. Loki is a great bad guy in the movie but even the heroes dont take him seriously and the movie doesnt really show him as a challenge or threatening at all what so ever. Now with the DKR rises trailer you see Gotham is really in trouble but Nolan doesnt show you the full story like the avengers trailer did. Batman has to deal with someone stronger and possibly smarter than him and the Batman looks really beat up. He doesn't joke around during a fight and is willing to actually fight in the day time which he rarely does to help the ppl of Gotham. Bane appears to be more of a threat than Loki and Gotham is in more danger than NY in the DKR. From the comments and opinions I have read in other forums Batman could actually die in this one and the trailer sends out that message as well which makes me want to go see the movie even more. Nolan has done a great job and knowing Tahlia Al Ghul is coming out in this movie proves that Batman Begins is linked to this movie than the Dak Knight. Any thoughts?

Tom Hardy is a sensational actor. Check out "Bronson", "Inception" "Warrior" and BBCs "Wuthering Heights" "The Virgin Queen" and above all the Brit series "The Take"..he plays a seething piece of very violent trash..and yet he brings a bit of humor to it..and the character is always sweet with children.., "Stuart a life Backwards" where he plays a physically impaired addict is brilliant. He's also done a lot of stage stuff. Google him. He's been working for quite awhile. His interviews are also brilliant. He can play anything. And he's in Lawless with Gary Oldman and Guy Pearce this summer..it looks good. He also is active in soial programs for wayward youths, supports work with troubled kids..

This one is practical; the other the actors could barely move and could not turn their heads. How realistic is wearing a costume that you can't move in? I mean superheroes are ridiculous enough (no way they would exist in the real world) without having to encase them in ridiculous and impractical garb. That said, this one looks way better than any of the previous ones since the Keaton days - no longer does the costume look like a wetsuit with a cape.

Its not the conclusion to the trilogy it's just a conclusion to the Dark Knight Saga...First movie wasn't part of the Dark Knight it was just plain Batman Begins....But it really does look like a fantastic movie. Can't wait to see it.

No – its the end. Chris Nolan said he is done with Bataman and pretty much said he'll make sure no one else tries to piggyback on this series.

No, this is the end of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. There will not be another film in this storyline after Dark Knight Rises.

There will be a reboot of sorts after this Batman trilogy, similar to the ill-conceived reboot of Amazing Spider-Man coming later this summer.

I do believe this is a trilogy after all, and this is the coclusion too. Dark Knight Rises supposedly ties in the story-arc more directly with Batman Begins in that it touches up on many issues and themes more directly that started in Batman Begins more-so than the Dark Knight.

Chris Nolan has stated in no uncertain terms that this is the conclusion to the "trilogy," but not to worry - Warner Brothers will come back with a new incarnation with a new actor and a new director in a few years. Batman is a cash cow, and this biz is all about making money.

Going to see this movie will be bittersweet. I really can't wait to see it; I think it's going to rock. But, I am reminded that this is our last Nolan/Bale Batman movie. I'm scared to see who picks up the torch next and I just can't imagine anyone matching this pairing.

Bittersweet? You're bitter about it just because this is the last Batman movie from Nolan? You might want to look up "bittersweet" because I'm guessing you, like so many who use it, don't know what it means.

Bruce Wayne "Why don't you just kill me?" Bane "You've been punching musketeers." I'm kidding.

The only problem I have with the Bane voice at this point is that it seems to have been purposely volume adjusted to make people saying "I can't understand him, blah blah blah" happy. It's now louder than the rest of the cast. I sincerely hope they muffle it back down for the theatrical release. How do you expect a man with a mask implanted on his face to sound? Between this and the Lawless trailer coming out this week, it sure seems Tom Hardy will be then "next big thing." Can't wait to see what he does with Mad Max: Fury Road.

Valid point. Actually this trailer is with Bane's "re-done" voice. Originally you couldn't understand him at all. They had to re-edit the film so he could sound like he is in this trailer.

Since they call it the "conclusion" to the batman movies in this trailer, i wonder if they'll actually have bane cripple batman like in the comics? Would be sad, but a fitting end if they wanted to move on to nightwing or an adapted "batman beyond" movie.

Sounds like you can't even understand the English vocabulary very well. Bane is quite audible in the trailer. That being said, it's a part of his character. If Christopher Nolan catered to every hipster who wanted all of their villains to be perfect cookie cutter clones of Joel Schumacker's disastrous past, we'd never have gotten any film beyond 'Begins.
