Martin Lawrence, wife to divorce

Funnyman Martin Lawrence isn’t laughing about this one: He and his wife have just announced they are splitting up.

After two years of marriage, the comedian and his wife, Shamicka Lawrence, have decided to divorce, a rep for the 47-year-old actor tells CNN.

The couple says in a joint statement that “out of love and respect for one another, we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together."

The couple's relationship spanned 15 years, and they married in 2010. This was Lawrence's second marriage, and he also has another daughter from his first.

The actor recently wrapped a nationwide stand-up comedy tour, and has a pilot in the works at CBS.

It is always a shame when a marriage ends but unlike many so called celebrities at least they are showing some decorum and dignity.

Wow, I just read about there big lavish wedding, and now it's over. This is so unfortunate, they really look like a cute happy couple. I think marriage is so over rated, and sometimes when your a certain age people around you pressure you to marry
because they think it's the right thing to do. I wish them the best of luck.

I am sorry to hear that after 17 years of a committed relationship than marriage that they have decided to separate and divorce. The strains of a celebrity marriage is usually a situation of being pulled in too many directions, by too many people with too many stresses and all of it in the public eye.

While the initial press release read well with the priority on the children and a divorce with dignity it may still be a little early to tell which direction ultimately they will go. With good collaborative divorce attorneys and good advisers they might still make this happen. Lets hope so for the sake of the children they make this happen.

At minimum, I hope the attorneys keep the divorce settlement confidential. Something that I am surprised more attorneys don't do for their high profile clients. Difficult, because courts rarely seal records but we know how and teach attorneys and/or their clients how. Retired law enforcement officer 24 years. Custody Calculations Divorce Coach.

Marriage is tough for all entertainers that travel. It seems like they're single because they spend so little time with the family. I would hold off on having kids and travel with my celeb husband, if I were in that situation.

A myth is a theory of something that hasnt been proven. Im not to certain on who your referring to in terms of the government making billions off "OUR" fake happiness. Marriage is what you make it. Its not about the situations couples go through during their marriage, but how they were able to overcome those challenges and move forward. Blaming America for marriages being distroyed is very far from rational or realistic thinking. People ruin their marriages, not the country. The reasons for getting married to begin with and how genuine and authentic feelings are between two people will determine if a marriage will work or not. Morals, values, and religion play a major role in how a person views marriage and if it will work. Yes there are people who get married just because or for the purpose of what other people think. Im 28 married for 4 years and with my husband for 12 years. Marriage can be a beautiful thing if both partners are willing to go through the highs and lows together and keep outsiders OUT.

this is crazy, they were together in a total of 15 years, and as soon as they get married they divorced in 2 years.

    Marriage is overrated.

It's not the marriage that broke them up. They may have been together 15 years but apparently, there was no foundation laid in that 15 years. If their relationship was so strong then getting married wouldn't have destroyed it. Marriage doesn't end Marriage.
