Vince Vaughn to star in 'Rockford Files' movie?

It looks like Vince Vaughn will be behind the camera as well as in front of it for his next round of projects.

According to Deadline, the “Couples Retreat” actor will reportedly star in a big-screen adaptation of the hugely popular 1970s TV series “The Rockford Files." He's also expected to produce the movie under his Universal-based Wild West Picture Show Productions company.

The sites says that Universal Pictures has cast Vaughn in the role made famous by James Garner, who played an L.A.-based ex-con-turned-private investigator.

To say the 42-year-old has got a lot going on would be an understatement, as he's also expected to produce a new TV drama series about the world of global private security operatives.

“This compelling yet secretive world we are exploring is one that most audiences don’t even know exists, and we’re excited to share its rich and heroic stories,” he said about the unnamed, upcoming show in a statement.

Vaughn also has a new comedy, “The Internship,” on the way with "Wedding Crashers" buddy Owen Wilson, as well as the movie “Neighborhood Watch” with Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill, which arrives in theaters this July.

what a horrible idea and insult to james garner. i CANNOT stand vince vaughn. he is an idiot. there are some roles that are perfect as they are. leave well enough alone. i would prefer to see the original series on metv w/the great james garner. vince vaughn, no way. this is almost as bad as lohan playing the immensly talented and gorgeous elizabeth taylor. i can't even explain what an insult this is to a major icon.
stop these movies/remake. we won't come, and you will lose BIG money! give it a rest already.

I discovered Rockford Files on Netflix and its my favorite show. I love how Rockford is always just barely making the bills, yet maintains a certain heroic dignity, always wearing a nice jacket, ready to negotiate but you never lose respect for the guy. Also his clients who hire him, are mostly hiding some important detail from him so its a world filled with interesting flawed characters, real car chases, all romantically bathed in the California sun. Good luck recreating that!

As Jamie Dimon and JP Morgan ruin our economy, we get excited because The Rockford Files will be revived.

Wall Street is evil and corrupt and we are worried who will star as Angel Martin. Tiny, teeny Henry Kravis would

    be super for the part.

Undeniably believe that that you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be at the internet the easiest factor to be mindful of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while other people think about concerns that they just do not recognise about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and outlined out the entire thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thank you

Wow, this is almost as ridiculous a piece of casting as Tom Cruise's upcoming portrayal of one of my favorite fictional characters, Jack Reacher. James Garner is, was and always will be Rockford. Vince Vaughn will just embarrass himself trying to match Garner's tough, funny detective who never really caught a break but never gave up trying. Walk away, Vince.

Like Starsky & Hutch, this will not go well. This will end up being someone's comedy rather than a movie that showcases the true sense of the show. I like Vince Vaughn, and I like the idea of a Rockford Files movie, just not the two together.

NOOOOO! No no noooo! Vince Vaugh? This has GOT to be a horrible joke. James Garner is a man of integrity and an actor of quality. Vince Vaugh is a jerk inside and out. He is going to sully the name of Rockford.

WHAT???? James Garner cannot be replaced, ESPECIALLY by Vince Vaughn of all people. He, like Nick Cage is the same exact character in every movie he's ever been in.

Vince Vauhgn replacing James Garner? YEAH RIGHT! I don't think so! That would be like trying to replace Steve McQueen in The Great Escape with another actor. I just cannot see him bringing the same character and charisthma to the James Garner type. He is going to have some VERY big shoes to fill in that role. It was like Liam Neeson trying to play Hannibal Smith in the A-Team Movie. There is only one George Peppard. Nuff Said!

Well, it is clear that Hollywood does NOT have an original thought in their collective brain!!!
They keep recycling old tv shows & movies. What the HELL!!!!!
They brought back Dark Shadows, The A-Team, Superman, Batman, Charlie's Angels. And have they done well at the box office? Do you own them in your dvd collection?
Now, I know why I haven't been to a theatre in over a year. Not only is it too expensive but there is NOTHING OUT!!!

      Barry Davis:

Being british, I can assure you that 'The Rockford Files' was immensly popular in the United Kingdom, although I wasnt an avid viewer. 'Maverick' on the other hand was something else again, with that show being compulsive viewing in the UK in the early 60's. Thats all in the past though, and counts for nothing.Vince Vaughn is extremely talented, but to me, he's stuck with the same jovial idiotic image whatever film he does. He needs luck to pulll this off. Sean Connery and to a lesser extent Roger Moore have been the only decent 007's.the rest were lousy by comparison, and Ian Fleming would turn in his grave if he knew we've arrived at the likes of Daniel Craig to play the part! Michael Keaton was the only decent Batman, with Val Kilmer, George Clooney etc failing miserably, even with the introduction of Robin!

Every part James Garner ever played was of a semi comedic nature, so you never know, Vince might just slot right in! We'll see.
