Disney unveils new 'Avengers' TV spotsRobert Downey Jr. has given “Avengers” fans a gift they’ve been waiting for - and just in time for his 47th birthday today. It’s two new teasers for the much-anticipated superhero flick, in which Downey Jr. stars as "Iron Man" Tony Stark. Disney released the 30-second spots Tuesday, dubbing them “Headcount” and “Team.”
In “Headcount,” Tony Stark can be seen stirring a cocktail as he counts off the army of “master assassins”: the lovely but brutal Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson); Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner); Thor (Chris Hemsworth); Captain America (Chris Evans); and the beastly Hulk (whose human persona is played by Mark Ruffalo).
In “Team,” an eye-patched Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) declares that the crew is at war, and will need to assemble quickly to fight. Fortunately for him, they’re clearly up to the task: leaping through glass windows, hurling fire balls and otherwise causing chaos and destruction.
"It's just a really good story that could've been done a hundred ways wrong," Downey Jr. told The Huffington Post recently about "The Avengers." "Don't act surprised at how unpredictable it is." Good thing it won’t be long now - “The Avengers” hits theaters on May 4.
