The Knicks secured another victory on Tuesday, and there's a chance actress Gabrielle Union was watching.
The 39-year-old, who's next appearing in Tyler Perry's "Good Deeds," is dating Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, but says she can't resist the story behind Linsanity.
"I was looking at Sports Center, looking for Dwyane highlights and I saw these Jeremy Lin highlights, and then I hear the story," Union recalled.
If you've missed it, Union runs through the main points:
"He was unheralded coming out of his high school in Palo Alto. They won the state championship and nobody wanted him. I mean, we're talking in the Bay Area, huge basketball programs - you got Cal, you got Stanford, you got St. Mary's, you got St. Clair's, Santa Clara, [and] nobody wanted this kid," Union said.
So, Lin "goes to Harvard, gets a great education, leads them to titles, goes undrafted, gets cut by the Rockets, gets cut by the Warriors, sleeps on his brother's couch, the Knicks are about to cut him, [and then he] comes through and saves the day. What a great story!"
There's also the fact that he's religious, Union adds, joking that "he's the NBA's answer to Tim Tebow."
"He is a true American story of don't give up, [it] just takes one opportunity," she went on.
And as far as Carmelo Anthony's ability to play with Lin, Union says, "I think this is another great opportunity for 'Melo to play with another great point guard. Right now we have to see Jeremy Lin doing a lot more than what he's required to do when ‘Melo gets back...I can't wait to see it."
The Knicks will take on Union's boyfriend's team on February 22, and while she does "hope they lose to the Heat," she says, "I want to see a great game.”
