Celine Dion is facing criticism Monday after an interview with "Good Morning America" in which she alleged that drug use "took over" Whitney Houston's life.
Dion, who called in to the show to speak with "GMA's" Robin Roberts, began by reiterating how much Houston, who died Saturday, influenced her English career.
She then launched into a lengthy response about how Houston's story - and that of other stars like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson - scares her.
"Whitney has been an amazing inspiration for me...It's just very unfortunate that drugs and, I don't know, bad people, or bad influence, took over," the 43-year-old singer said.
"It took over her dreams, it took over love and motherhood. When you think about Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse...To get into drugs like that for whatever reason, because of the stress and bad influence, what happens?...You have responsibilities as a mother, and then something happens and it destroys everything."
That thought of such a trajectory frightens the mom of three, making her "scared of show business," she said.
"There's something that happens that I don't understand, and that's why I'm so scared," Dion said. "I'm scared of show business, I'm scared of drugs, I'm scared of hanging out, and that's why I don't do parties and hanging out, and that's why I'm not part of show business. We have to be afraid."
Houston's music "will live forever," Dion said when Roberts tried to transition into a conversation about Houston's legacy, but added, "it's not enough. Time after time, we lose people...Taking pills to go perform, taking pills to wake up and taking pills to go to bed...It's so unfortunate. I've always said, you have to have fun, and do music, and never be part of show business, because you don't know what it's going to get you into."
"How come it's stronger than all that, stronger than family and motherhood and love itself?"
Those answers had many on Twitter critiquing Dion, with @cennay tweeting the morning news program to say, "Celine Dion's comments/opinions regarding Whitney Houston were inappropriate and insensitive. Who is she to pass judgement on anyone?"
Added @zidek123, "How arrogant, pompous and rude of Celine [D]ion. Tell her to save her drug abuse sermon until [toxicology] reports are complete."
Indeed, the cause of Houston's death is not known. An autopsy was completed Sunday but toxicology results are pending.
@MarkWGaither weighed in, "Robin Roberts tried to save Celine Dion from herself on GMA. Alas, some disasters are too great to hold back. Buried under an avalanche ..."
Others simply felt unease watching the interview. "Felt uncomfortable after listening 2 Celine Dion's interview about Whitney (on GMA)," wrote @KimLeeJewelry. "[J]ust my personal opinion. Praying for Whitney's family."
On Saturday, Dion told CNN that she was in shock over Houston's death.
"Whitney was such an amazing artist," Dion said Saturday. "When I started my English career, I wanted to be like her. I loved her so much. My prayers go out to her daughter and to all of her family."
Hi, i feel that i saw you visited my website thus i got here to go back the prefer?.I am trying to find issues to improve my website!I guess its good enough to use a few of your ideas!!
Hello there, just was aware of your blog via Google, and found that it is truly informative. I'm gonna be careful for brussels. I will be grateful if you happen to continue this in future. Numerous people will probably be benefited out of your writing. Cheers!
It is really a great and useful piece of info. I am happy that you shared this useful information with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thank you for sharing.
The problem with Americans or infact the whole world is that people don't want to know the truth. They want you to tell them the opposite of what they look. Its a pity that whitney is no more with us,but her legacy will last forever. So celine deon, i give you kudos for telling the truth.Drugs is the major contributing factor to her death even though the toxicology report is still pending.
That foreigner had no right to said anything about Whitney Houston, she is jeolous because she will never out do Whittney Houston voice. No one has heard from her all this time and now this b want to add her two cents. Shut up! Whitney is greater then you will ever be and when you die no one will care! Go back to your country with your opinions about Whitney Houston! Whitney loved us her fans! She fullfil her purpose here on earth and she is the greatest voice that ever song! We will not stand for negative opinions from anyone!
It's real funny how people pass judgement on others. We ALL have our short comings, skeletons, addictions...anything that makes us NOT PERFECT! Substance abuse is something she may have done BUT who she was is what matters, what counts, and how she should be remembered! I would love to know if Mrs dion EVER tried to reach out and help her or get her help! My goodness, Whitney wasn't layed to rest and she was popping off with her judgements dialog. That was DISRESPECTFUL on all levels!!!!!! Just plain wicked. Whether its true or not IT WAS NOT HER PLACE TO SAY THOSE THINGS! JUST PLANE NASTY!
"May light perpetual shine upon her now and always" Take your rest Whitney..you will ALWAYS be remembered for who you were and your gift of voice which No One can be compared to!
I think Celine was somehow right, but maybe she is been asked in an apropriate moment, and she should have waited until official announcment of the cause of whitney's death, but there is a truth when someone's death reason is kept secret I think, so it means something was wrong with that.
Celine is somehow true because there were others who dies cause of drugs
BRAVO!!!! Thank you Nahid and Tammy Marie. Well said.
Get over yourself Celine, not everyone is showbiz pulls a Whitney and destroys their life. You know every interview I have ever heard you in, you come off so self absorbed and arrogant it makes my stomach ill.
WE SOMETIMES FORGET CELEBRITIES ARE PEOPLE TOO! THEY ARE SOMEONE'S DAUGHTER, SISTER OR MOTHER. REGARDLESS OF THE FACTS OF THE MATTER AND THE ASSUMPTIONS THAT CAN BE MADE, TOO MUCH WAS SAID TOO SOON. News Flash!!! No one is perfect and we all struggle with something. Our lives are just not hung out to dry in the media like celebrities. Let the family bury their loved one, before you go on national TV without an official autopsy report making comments about someones death. That's just plain common sense. CD was asked how Whitney influenced her career. But somehow, the interview became about CD and how scared she is , blah, blah. No one is in denial here. We all know know what she said was true, but the timing reeks self-righteousness, disrespect, and just plain attention seeking. Again , not denying what was said, just questioning the timing of the statements. I have never listened to CE's music, but I thought she had a little more tact that was was displayed here.
I AGREE WITH EVERY WORD U WROTE MAYBE CELINE IS JEALOUS BECAUSE ON WHITNEY HOUSTON WORST DAY SHE WILL NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO SING LIKE HER ...
Celine said nothing wrong, she never judged whitney houston but stated the fact that music industry does not care about its artists. Whitney's voice was damaged long time ago due to the hard drugs. Even though she got over the drug problems according to her and her friends, by taking pills that was responsible for her death didn't prove whitney was doing great in her life. If you read every thing about her medications in the drug handbook, it's so serious and nothing to take lightly. Celine is just stating that people close to Whitney have failed in their responsibility in taking care of her. It was whitney that made wrong choices that eventually destroyed her, but her loved ones needed to take drastic measurements to make sure that this sort of thing never happened. Medications are not the answer and surprised that neither her loved ones or the music industry helped her out with all the money and resources they had. The music industry used whitney as a product and the only solution to whitney's problem was to make more albums and make her to go on tours which did nothing to help her. No one close to whitney knew the tireless commitment that it takes in whitney's case to persevere in the midst of her problems.
meh ROFL SFTU
Lets c f ceines kids will grow into adulthood & watch there future spouse in lust b4 they start 2 develope n 2 adulthood & molest oops i mean marry them- judge thee lest not the b judged
I agree with Deline, she spoke th truth, and why people continue not to want to accept the truth is beyond me. Whitney has been dying just like michael Jackson, for years. The body is not built to handle all of these drugs, and eventually it just shuts down. Whether it be an over-dose or not, everybody knows that whitney had struggled with drugs for years, and it wasn't Bobby Browns fault either, I beg to disagree with that also. And any body that has ever had any kind of voice lessons, knows that the voice has the potential to lower as you age also, but it will do so even swifter if you are a heavy drinker and smoker, and there is nothing that a doctor can do to correct the damage. You have got to LOVE YOURSELF enough to steer away from this kind of lifestyle, because it will eventially KILL you. And of course I feel that these celebrities need to stop allowing that industry to distance them from their families too. Being separated from your family is what all abusers do.
Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you for being so honest and upfront about Hollywood and the way they see life ! Whitney had the wrong circle around her for years, and it showed ! Celine , you have to do what's best for you as a mother and artist and if that means staying away from the negative than by all means do so ! Your voice speaks for itself and no one can take that away from you !!
It is my own opinion everyone has a addiction of some sort and many addictions can kill you. In regards to Whitney Houston, if you watched Bobby Brown's Show I believe it was on Bravo, when Whitney was married to him, it was obvious that WH had a problem with some form of substance addiction. For those people who put her down and say she gets what she deserves, I find you to be heartless. That is what is wrong with Americans, always judging and putting down people. Obviously, addictions can over take a person, I know my mother died of Alcholism. She fought it but it got the best of her. R.I.P. Whitney, you are in a much better place. . .
Celine isn't passing judgement. She not only hit the nail on the head where issues of addiction are concerned, but spoke honestly about her own fears being in 'the business'. Hats off to her for being true to herself and keeping her priorities in check. Regardless of whether or not you like her or her music, you gotta give her credit for that!
I agree with Celine. We don't know yet if drugs caused Whitney's death, but we know drugs almost ruined her life completely.
Houston killed herself. <<<< it's that simple. started cocaine as a young woman. Stayed with an abusive husband for many years. Friends who were users and enablers. it's called passive suicide.
DION is a MORON: who left school at 13 to live with a man in his 30s. Don't LISTEN TO ONE WORD from her oversized, greedy, NARCISSIST mouth. Always hated her and now I HATE her more.
It is sad what happen to Whitney Houston. It was more shocking to me then what happend to Micheal Jackson, but Celine was right it took over everything in her life and that is sad but that is what addiction does.I think that is what happens when people put someone famous on a pedistal.People forget she was human like this rest of us and screwed up,sad but it happens.
Celine sounds like she was jealous of Whitney.....
Whitney was a celebrity. It is a given for the media to talk about their ENTIRE lives, not just a portion of it so I don't see why her friends and family are so upset. She may have been clean for 3 years, as reports say, but it appears she picked up or continued another habit and that was alcohol & pills. Plus, drugs do their damage over years, especially cocaine.
I believe Whitney was clean of illicit drugs. I believe a combo of pills and alcohol killed her.
We must discuss this because we need to find solutions to prevent this from happening and burying so many young artists!!! The truly talented are leaving us too soon!
she killed herself. it's that simple. rehab didn't work. friends who were users, and she stayed with them. she killed herself
I agree with you the most. Regardless of the world any one lives in, we all have the human responsibility to do what is right. This person named Whitney she is no different than any other person who put a needle to there arms or put that glass "Dick" to there mouth. She had plenty of time and obvious resources to help her but she choose the easy way. If this was the guy down on the corner what would the world be saying. Did her music really help the world out that much!!!
I loved me some Whitney back in the day. There's one thing no one is saying that I don't understand – Why was she partying at the Grammy festivities in the first place if she was in outpatient rehab? That was the last place she needed to be. Certainly not partying in Hollywood and with her daughter in tow. Were the people around her who were such close friends and family in denial? Why would she subject herself to this type of environment if she was trying to get well? I am tired of hearing the people who were partying with her act like it was OK and saying "she was just fine, I didn't see anything unusual." It is unusual to party and be in rehab, HELLO?? Who told her the truth? I would like to hear the commentary of those who were really trying to help her.
I remember when B.E.T. Talked trash about Whitney for selling out and forgetting where she came from and the pain it brought her, this is before Bobby Brown. The music industry is very cruel.
Whitney's death is sad, no doubt. But really, her song died years ago. She killed her voice, her career, and then herself. So while we lost her body on Saturday, truthfully, she died years ago when she chose drugs over life. We were never again going to be privy to the star that shone in the 80's and 90's. I am not a big fan of Celine – well, I wasn't until I heard her this morning on GMA. She was refreshingly candid and spot on. Good for her for calling it like it is.
When you are an addict and are getting high, nothing else is more important. THIS IS WHY DRUGS ARE BAD FOR YOU. Even though the reports are not in as yet, I hope drugs did not play a part in Houston's death. But on the other hand she did do rehab three times. So the addiction to the drugs and its culture are very strong. I do not blame Celine for being afraid of the drug culture aspect of show business. It has taken away many many talented and artistic people. And will continue to do so until something is done about it. Until then, the question becomes, "who is next?"
I am so confused by this. Though she struggles with a language barrier, it is clear Celine Dion is not slamming, nor judging Whitney Houston, who she has always publicly adored, but rather the industry. She is hurt, frustrated, devastated, and quite frankly angry that its bad influences keep claiming the lives of those she so deeply respects, such as Whitney Houston... And all too recently Michael Jackson. She is scared of the industry and its power, and pleading with everyone to face the real issues. How sad it is that her words are being so misunderstood.
Why is it taboo to speak of addiction in showbiz, unless it's the media outlets announcing another stint in rehab?! Good for you Celine for speaking out, loud and clear. Let's stop glamourizing the lifestyle and brushing the truth under the rug
I agree with Celine as I've been saying this in my own home about the world of stardom. The only thing is, it was just the wrong time to be upfront like this. Sorry Celine, I love you, but please apologize for being so direct at this time. I'm proud of you being so pulled back and not mixing with the party groups.
It should be made illegal to work with those under the influence of drugs.
We all have sin and come short of the glory of God. Celine Dion is poor t**** that made it through her old daddy figure husband. What about her eating disorder and binge eating – she doesn't think anyone notice? We all have something in our closet – we are not perfect; but only part of a perfect piece. All I can say is – no one deserve to bury their child; but at least Bobby Kristina had 18 years with her mother. I thank God that Demi Moore and others have a second chance and Lindsey Lohan, Brittany Spears – aging is not the end of your life.
Must be a slow news day if they'r trying to turn Celine's comments into something controversial cause most people would agree with what she said and not like she said it in an insincere or mean spirited way.
Celine Dion is a pompus bimbo who lives in a glass house with a weirdo. Really? Does she think that everyone lives a perfect princess life. Not everyone shares your views, and this is NOT about you. Next time, when someone is trying to save you from yourself... SHUT UP.
Celine shot off her mouth publicly about something that was none of her business – i doubt if Whitneys family and friends will thank her for it. It was inappropriate of her to rag on about drugs when the poor woman was barely cold – shame on her. A simple condolence would have been sufficient.
Actually, I think Celine was right on the money. Hollywood and the music business obviously need to be shocked and shocked often before they get the message that DRUGS KILL! Telling the world that she is afraid of that lifestyle, that atmosphere was NOT disrespectful of Whitney. She was expressing how easy it is when living in the midst of all that to get caught up in it and lose everything! Actually, I'm furious...with Whitney, with her mother and with Bobby Brown! Whitney knew, the first time she took drugs she KNEW what she was playing with. She grew up watching her mother be part of Elvis' back-up group. Her godmother is Dionne Warwick, who had her own problems with drugs. WAKE UP, PEOPLE. If you lay across the railroad tracks, the train is going to kill you! Don't blame Celine for speaking the truth. Place the blame where it belongs!
I guess when you live in a glass house in Vegas, married to a man three times your age, without an advanced education, it makes sense to share your perpective with such conviction.
Go away Celine.
Thank you Celine Dion for not giving us yet another glossed over Hollywood version of the life and death of Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston traded her voice, career, fans and most importantly her responsibility as a parent for drugs. The legendary voice that made her famous died many years ago. The real tragedy is the child left without a Mother and Mother burying her child.
Hey at least she was worth 52 pts in the deadpool.
The only thing I agree with Celine is, I don't need a Toxicology report, I don't need one to tell me Whitney Houston is dead. Its a sad day for her family and let he that is without sin cast the first stone. Celine is not perfect, no one is better than God. It doesn't matter if she had a ounce of alcohol and pills in her system which may have caused her death, she is human and we all make mistakes. Her problems never hurt anyone personally that is slandering her, only person Whitney hurt was Whitney. And that still does not make her a bad person or make her death any less shocking. I pray all that hates her so much when your time comes people don't find your skeletons and use them to kick you when your dead.
I guess those who tweeted about Celines statements are not aware of Ms Houstons past? Here is a fact for them to consider before judging Celine... Ms Houston did abuse her body... she admitted it, she went for treatment for it and then she ignored what she learned in treatment. Thursday she was seen drunk, and dripping blood from her arms and legs.. she had fallen off the wagon while her "friends" celebrated her being drunk with them. Celine is correct is what she said... even if she slipped in the tub and drowned... her life was a terrible example.
@ Al Sanchez
Nobody read all caps...
This comment comes from a french woman married to a man older than her Dad..... How do you say white trash in french
I am not Celine's fan, but what she sad is so true.
All these people who got offended with what Celine have said, are truth that need to be said to stop the murder of our talented and sensitive artists.
The enablers have to be identified and let the public know who is involved in the loss of so many wonderful people who with their extraordinary talents make us happy, sad and touch our soul in so many ways with their wonderful performances.
So long Whitney, you will be always with us.
More power to Celine Dion for speaking the truth.
While Houston had a great voice, a real talent, she abused it. She didn't have the self-discipline to say no, to put herself and her daughter first, ahead of the drugs.
I can't get over all the people who are mourning her. She put herself in that position. YOU should be angry.
they will try and cover this up
they will say she had taken some very innocent prescription drugs and had a reaction or passed out and died in the tube from drowning. but the truth is she overdosed on lord knows what and went into cardiac arrest and died.
can't fool me!
EVERYBODY ALREADY knows her struggles, so what was the point of Celine Doing an INTERVIEW where she is being asked to speak on what WHITNEY MEANT TO HER and she goes on and on not only about drungs BUT ACCUSING WHITNEY OF BEING A BAD MOTHER, and goes on about her (celine) own fans and how they come up to her... I know some people are Born to hate and will always love someone for being negative, BUT imagine if a member of WHitney's family happened to be watching for some comfort and to hear a lecture From Celine, who has never spent time with Whitney give an analysis? It was tacky I mean the host had to try and interrupt her because she couldn't talk about drugs enough, she went on and on
You're right but celine simply stated the obvious and it did't seem to be a lecture. The only people who would take celine's words as blah blah blah are the one's who don't want hear even though its the truth. But everyone wants to find answers to why she died so soon. People close to whitney have been saying "she's fine, looks good, doing great etc.." and then she dies. Her substance abuse is common knowledge but people don't know what's the reason for the pills that she had and the drinking. I've seen her interviews regarding her upcoming movie and she was looking good, what happened. Celine is reacting the same way and she never disrespected whitney, just trying to make sense of the situation. You can't judge her harshly for her comments even though it's not the right time to make those statements.
Celine was correct, hit the button stark center. How refreshing to hear it from a very successful professional!!! We can all learn a lesson from the tragedy.
Celine was right on!
the truth always hurts
all this bs about her career, voice etc is overshadowed by her craving to stay high and escape reality.
you live by the "nose" you die by the "nose"!
Really Steve? does that make you feel good to write? why judge someone who has paid with her life for whatever choices she made. The lack of decency that people have for someone they don't even know is baffling... whatever dude
She most likely took some pills and feel asleep in the tub. The overwhelming sad thing is that she could feel so alone in a sense....
Celine's comments about drug use within the entertainment industry in Hollywood, CA were right on the money. Whitney was a great talent who threw it all away for drugs. I feel bad for her daughter. Hopefully, she will not follow in her mother's footsteps.
Celine is right. Demi Moore, watch and learn. You may be next.
And what is wrong about what Celine said? isn't true that Whitney was so in drugs that forgot about everyting else? C'mom is a shame because undoubtley she had a great voice but where where all this people that say she'll be missed what they didn't create a support group to help her ? Im tired of all this people lying!!!!!!
Whitney was on drugs, she was an addict, she was sick – drug addiction is a sickness. Its not the kind of "choice" we make its an addiction. Trying to overcome an addiction if you are lucky is a blessing but you will alway be an addict – recovering addict. Ms. Dion is right – she was hooked on drugs. She loved her daughter but the addiction was so great. Noone can say anything about Whitney not loving her child or her very own self. I am sure she wished she was not an addict. If she is or is not found to have drugs in her system that is besides the point. A wonderful blessing to our lives is now gone and may the Lord bring her peace and my her family/friends and the world keep on loving her. If you know someone that is an addict – love them because one day they may find their way and if not – God has a better place for them. Peace and love Whitney and family.
That is a load of bull! It is a choice! The first time you put a needle in your arm, or cocaine up your nose, it is a choice. Whitney had NO excuse. She was not some little, sheltered farm girl. She grew up in the shadow of showbusiness and saw what drugs did to Elvis, to her godmother Dionne and many, many others. Whitney was arrogant to think she could play with fire and not get burned, and she was arrogant again each time she came out of rehab and got back on the 'dragon'. She paid with her voice and, ultimately with her life, but the biggest tragedy of all is that her own daughter has already been in rehab. And so the curse continues....great job, Whitney...
Thank you Celine. I don't believe we should be patting all the drug addicted hence dead celebrities on the back. I love Celine and I loved Whitney.. music is a gift that is shared but I could not support and purchase Whitney after seeing her spiral. The reports aren't complete but her life was so sad to watch.. a Queen on stage, and now she is gone. With all of the resourses... money.. why can't the rich clean up? I hope nobody ever comments on the trailer park mother that lives her life the way she does.. doped up, babies and living off the system. DRUGS SUCK
Am I the only one that saw Houston on Being Bobby Brown? Anyone that really cared about her should have talked her out of appearing on TV stoned and/or drunk.
I agree with Tim,Brian Ellis.
I applaud Celine Dion for speaking the truth. People get so darn offended when someone speaks the truth and is up front and forthright. Celine Dion has a way of saying things that always show how classy, intelligent and caring she is. She said what many wanted to say. I was shocked by Whitney Houston's death and very saddened. It's so horribly sad that she was in such despair. I hope she is at peace....she was loved, admired and appreciated by millions. I feel so sorry for her daughter, only 18, to lose her Mother. I can only hope that she is surrounded by healthy love and support.
Celine – thank you for your thoughtful and intelligent comments.
Celine is obviously saying this to warn other young stars to not fall into the same lifestyle as Whitney. Why condemn Celine for saying what is already out in the open. She may not have died from drugs- and Celine did not say she did- but her multi-year use of drugs took away her voice, her ability to perform, her self-respect, and her ability to parent responsibly. So I don't know how anyone can differ with Cilene's observation that drugs took over her dreams. Anyone who does has their head in the sand. Celine and Whitney were the two greatest voices of my lifetime and I have every CD made by both of them. But they did make different choices in their lives and Celine was right to be afraid of the Hollywood star lifestyle, And she's right to warn others about it too. If anything is to be learned from Whitney's life and for her death not to have been in vain, it's to serve as a warning to other young stars and non-stars that drug use is a path to nowhere.
Celine was not being mean or cruel at all. She is concerned about what happens to her fellow performers that makes then choose a drugged life over all other things. Sadly she is so right about Whitney not being the mother she should have been. How could she have when admittedly on drugs. I know she loved her daughter, but I bet Bobbie has been hurt by her parents lifestyle. Judging is when you condemn someone or something. Celine, did not condemn Whitney only stated the truth. Good for you Celine.
Ms. Dion is 100% correct. Show biz fast crowd-fast lane crap will kill you if you aren't careful. Ms. Dion is smart to distance herself from all that stuff. How can anybody disagree with her?
What's so controversial about what Celine said? We've known Whitney has had a problem with drugs ever since she made the fatal mistake of getting into a relationship with Bobby Brown. No secret.
To all these people expressing sympathy for Whitney's family in one breath and dissing Celine in the next–are you too immersed in the celebrity culture that you don't understand that Celine is trying to speak out to stop this from happening in the first place, so people no longer have to mourn someone gone too soon? She's not judging Whitney, she's exposing the system that destroys the Whitneys, etc. of the world...
Sorry Celine, you are part of show business, Las Vegas has put you on the map, among other venues. You sound as though fear is eating you alive, that can be just as bad as drugs.
An addict is an addict. She just happened to have one of the greatest voices of all time.
Celine does not have any inside info and has been very disrespectful in her comments. Not surprising as I hear those kind of comments from her about others, too. Jealousy is ugly.
Celine was simply telling it like it is. Whether or not drugs were directly or indirectly the cause of death, the end result is the same. Whitney's death is a shame and so was her decline....
I don't think she passed any type of judgement on whitney. She never said Whitney was a bad mother or terrible person, That is making a judgement. Celine simply stated what has manifested. What happened and as a result we have lost her (Whitney).vThis is a subject that need not be overlooked. This is a huge problem in Hollywood and America as a whole, that needs to be discussed. Her's a Townhall meeting. So often after every natural disaster you have celebrities getting together to raise money and come to the aid. Well, the same should be done in their community. There is a serious drug use problem in Hollywood of pandemic proprtions that needs to be dealt with. Hell, yes the drugs took over and eventually took her life. I'm mad, mad as hell that she's gone. I could go on and on, but I won't. I will miss you dearly Ms. Whitney.
I agree with Celine Dion. The truth hurts but drugs kill Celine is not judging Whitney she is saying the truth. People need to get off that denial train. RIP Whitney
Obama and DEA the Drug War Murdered Her, Yes I said murder. That is what the stupid, insane drug does it war murders innocent people and here we have a drug user President and why won't he end the INSANE TERROR WAR ON DRUGS. You see the Drug war supports Terror, just ask the dead in Mexico and on the streets of almost any country. Drug abuse is a person matter not Government Matter they just Fock things up. See the last 100 years of intervention, it keeps getting worse. Peace
Celine Dion, you were right, all of Hollywood is in denial because most of them are dopeheads anyway. It is a great loss as far as a singing star goes. Withney was not strong enough to withstand the drug addiction to which she was introduced by Bobby.
He is the one who destroyd that Girl. He is a Bum first class and has no shame. Also I am sorry for Whitneys daughter, I hope
that Bobby has not influenced her as of yet. I would not trust this guy at all.
Again, Hollywoods denial is soo phony, nobody wants to face the truth...go Celine, stay strong.....
Whitney Houston is just another talented performer that chose to end her life by doing drugs..... Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, Belushi, Cobain, Monroe, Winehouse, Moon, Jackson...... the list goes on and on and is so tragic and sets such a bad example for our youth. All the publicity does no one any good. Why don't we just stop reporting on this garbage and focus on positive role models within our society. We don't need to read stories about yet another junkie in the entertainment business that perished much too young.
It's appointed unto man, once, to die and after death the judgement. I am truly hurt by her passing and mad at her for not trusting the God she talked about, angry at the demon who is Bobby Brown and sad for all the lovely music we will no longer hear. It was her time, good or bad, right or wrong, up or down, it was her time, an appointment we all must keep, death comes to warn the living, don't let her dying be in vain!
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE JOKE CELINE DION IS. WHITNEY HOUSTON HAS MORE SOUL IN ONE OF HER PUBIC HAIRS THAN CELINE DION HAS EVER HAD IN HER ENTIRE LIFE. HOW DID SHE EVER GET SO FAMOUS?
I guess you'll have to ask Celine's millions of fans to get the answer to that question.
Watch and see. Bobby Brown will be the biggest wailer at the funeral...Acting like he's soooo sad. He was the pied piper that lead to the coke pipe and the blunts. The the Xanax came from the anxiety after living with that fool for nearly 15 years. His guilt must be as heavy as a blacksmith's anvil. Bobby Brown, still running around trying to be hip-hop when he's closer to 50 than anything else. has the blood of ages on his filthy, rank hands.
Ohhh, I wanna dance with somebody, Wanna feel the heat with somebody, but can't because I drowned in the tub.
She did good music but also did drugs, picked a wrong man and badly affected the life of her child – the inncocent life of daughter. Bad is bad. Don't glorify it. Learn from a bad example and move on. I do not agree with the time and attention given to her at the Grammys. It was disproportiinate to her overall achievemnts. There are a lot better peple in the society. pay attention to them. They are working silently to make a positive difference in others' lives.
Celene should be praised for speaking the truth. We've all heard of the rock & roll lifestyle, and we all know what that means. And show business puts tremendous pressure on performers to live that lifestyle, or live up to its reputation. Sadly, Whitney and those who have gone before her–not just Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse, but also Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix as well–are lionized by fans as martyrs of that lifestyle, not victims of it. An official cause of Whitney's death remains to be released, but given Whitney's known, proven history of drug abuse, we have to admit that the rock & roll lifestyle is destructive and wrong and that living fast and dying young is not romantic or heroic and does not make you a martyr, but just a corpse withering to dust in a grave.
Why are Celine's comments being bashed? It was no secret that Whitney had a drug problem. She didn't say that the drugs are what killed her, she stated that it was sad that they had such an influence on her life. No matter what the toxicology reports come back with, the world knows she had a problem. Sad that her voice was lost so soon!
Celine was saying out loud what everyone else is saying quietly.....Whitney had a huge problem, and it ruined her career, and her life. I don't think Celine was being unkind or insensitive, she was just stating how sad it is to lose someone that was her "hero", and to lose them in this way!
@ mikehowell–Really??????? Where did that come from?
Addiction is a disease, its a hard CHOICE to decide to get sober, its a harder CHOICE to stay sober. I know because I am grateful to be able to work hard at a wonderfully sober existence for the last 36 years. But what society seems to miss is most overdoses are not from illicit drugs and that while people -rich & poor – die from overdoses ever single day, the prescriptions for these poisons comes from doctors and pharmaceutical companies as they laugh all the way to bank and never ever take any responsibility. They do make drugs that benefit us like antibiotics but those are not the drugs that enhance their bottom line. Yes it is a story we hear too often and it does get tiring but they are human beings and I would have the same empathy for ordinary people but we never hear about them dying. Although Ms. Houston had a history of drug use, no one knows yet what caused the death.
Celine Dion... Don't be self righteous. Don’t judge others. We are human.
You don't get it,do you
Truth is Celine is alive..whitney is not...guess who's right? lol
Dion only spoke the truth. She was not disparaging Whitney, only saying how sad it is what the whole world knows to be true. Nobody wanted to see Whitney go and nobody wants her gone but it happened and it didn't have to. I was choked up listening and watching the tributes and performances of Whitney on last nights Grammys. RIP
I've always found it interesting why some superstars can handle fame and others can't. Let's face it – all the top guns must be driven and talented to make it, why do some handle it (say Celine, Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Cher), others wobble but pull through (Mariah, Britney) and others end up in tragedy. I am glad Celine is addressing this, and she is not being disrespectful to Whitney in any way.
Celine says she is scared of the "scene" and drugs – that makes celebs no different from normal folk – when someone loses that fear, it is much easier to take the first steps that could eventually lead to addiction.
why does the article basically lecture us that what celine said is wrong? i can make up my own mind. it's absolutely true what she said! everyone is thinking the same thing. most people probably blame bobby brown for her downfall.
I totally agree with Celine. Drugs and BB destroyed her dreams. Too bad she did not think about her child, all she thought of was drugs and that loser.
First of all. It's sad that Whitney got mixed up with the wrong crowd and went down the wrong road. I did the very same thing... nearly died myself. I decided I did not want to die, went to rehab and took my recovery very seriously. I came to realize this very important point... know drugs... no future. Period. As a grateful recoving addict... I thank you Celine for saying what you did. To the others... if the truth hurts... walk away.
Whitney could be in Celine's shoes and still doing shows in big venues with THAT VOICE. Instead, she let drugs (and Bobbi the gangsta) in her life. She has really been "dead" for 15 years. She was and always will be my favorite female vocalist but so sad she let "show business" take over and dictate her lifestyle and happiness. Unless these artists get out of denial and own up to the truth, we will continue losing our brightest stars.
Celine needs to OD ,smack her kids or shoot her husband to JUMPSTART that carreer.
Maybe she should start with you Mike lol
Celine Dion is 43? She looks 60!
Celines a babe. I'd tap that any day of the Mayan calender
Hansy, the beauty of Celine is not physical. It's her soul and voice and talent. Now what about you, tell us how do you look like?
not a fan of celine but really...folks she is right. W's body is taxed from all that she has done to it in the past with crack and everything else, even the biz itself. Even a heart attack/brain issue in the bathtub (if the report stays consistent) if she has been clean for a year could have been IT for her.
Celine was correct regarding her statements about drug abuse, however, the investigation IS NOT complete! Why do we speak something that may not be true! Right now we DON'T know the cause of death! America need to be respectful towards her family and keep our personal opinions silent until we know what took Whitney Houston's life. Those speaking ill against Bobby Brown are wrong as well. Just maybe he didn't introduce Whitney to drugs and alcohol. She was a grown woman capable of making her own decisions. This is tragic and sad. I loved her music and she will be missed! I'm praying for her family, friends, many many fans and myself!!!
She didn't say anthing wrong........she merely commented on the fact that drugs ruin people's lives. Whitney is a known and admitted drug abuser.
yes, everyone is waiting for toxocolgy reports to learn the facts. one true fact however is that whether or not she died in the bathtub from prescription or illegal drugs, she did in fact die and it is most likely attributable to addiction over the past ten years or so. The sad part is that addiction is a monster, a monster that is hard to break away from. I believe she tried and also that she loved her daughter. I just think for some people it is just a losing battle. I do not judge her. I hope we can learn from her.
Sounds like Celine has her head on straight. Good for her and her family. I hope she stops owrrying and just stays on the path she has chosen. Not all stars OD but you'd think that was the case when it happens. Until we start asking why there's strong demand for illegal drugs and providing help for those in need all the laws in the world won't stop its consumption. Something is wrong or troubling a lot of people, maybe all people to some degree. Not just Whitney Houston, God bless her weary soul. Celine's comments are brave and accurate.
Yes, as a person their age and knows as a fan their story from almost the beginning, Celine is correct – as said, drugs took over (or away) Whitney's dreams. We can only hope and pray that many will learn from Whitney's errors and will stay sober and clean and will make a difference in the world for the better, since God gives everyone that potential – whether we use it or not is our decision...
Sure, like we could not all see what was happening to Whitney. People are in such denial. My dad had a real bad problem with alcohol, and although he eventually kicked it the toll it took on his body caused a slightly premature death. Even if Whitney's toxocology comes back as "not bad" (for Hollywood standards!) and there are no found natural defects then its the drugs, the booze, etc.
It is one thing to express your opinion and its another to intentionally hurt an innocent person, Bobbi Kris and Whitneys family is the ones who see and hear the critical comments that are being spread about Whitney. We all know she had a issues with drugs and alcohol its not a hidden fact, however if you read closely to the evidence being stated, Whitney was in a tub of water with her legs up, who takes a bath like that? The tray in the bathroom had no alcohol glasses on it, next there were conversations on the phone between Whitney and family 30-60 minutes before she was found, I know that if she had consumed alcohol and taken too many pills she would have been more than groggy and functional, so look at the facts involved and not your judge mental opinions and take into consideration her daughters has access to the internet and social networking as well.
so we shouldn't say things because it might hurt her family? we can't discuss what went wrong with her? she is a public figure... emphasis on PUBLIC. it's part of the lifestyle. if you become famous for something, anything, people will talk about you. i think it's a lesson for us all about how easy it is to become addicted to drugs and so hard to stop.
LMB what you don't understand is not everyone is putting Whitney down. Most people here are sad and hurt just like Celine Dion that we've lost Whitney. You don't find a singer like her everyday. It is good that the family could read this because they are in a better position than any of us to put on its feet a movement to shake the music business world about the reality. Who else other than the family of Celebrities who can really do something about this. Our voice won't be heard but theirs will be heard. I'm sure Whitney daughter don't want this to happen to another young girl too by loosing her mother that way.
If your going to blame Bobby Brown for her drug use, then blame all her fans and everyone that bought her records and made her the famous PUBLIC figure that she was, literally damning her to eternity is not going to bring any point home, I don't think her daughter will give any advice to any young woman because she is going to be distraught for many years to come, so instead of making light of her addictions that we are all aware of, remember the woman she was and the things she brought to the entertainment world. Just because your life is public when you become famous does not mean that you have to be condemned for it.
LMB i am not blaming Booby for the drug use and neither condemn her, you don't seems to understand do you? All we and i are saying is, there's too much drug abuse in the show business. The show business industry will have to clean up their act and and an eye on those things if they still want to money to flow in. Now if you still don't understand this then there is nothing more i can do for you.
Celine was right in what she said. Celine is a good example of someone who has made an effort to lead a clean and healthy life.
Celine is correct. I keep witnessing my professional coworkers begin pill-popping – for no good reason other than "to sleep" or "to relax." This is crazy. It seems drugs are taking over the world – and not just rich celebrities. We should all be more aware of how big this problem really is – and Celine Dion is the only one talking about it. At least the drug companies can't get to her – she is pretty protected.
Although I am deeply saddened by Whitney's death, I am not surprised. Even if she had finally stopped using illegal drugs, it still couldn't undo the damage already done to her body from years of abuse. Celine hit the nail on the head and while the pain may still be a little too raw for Whitney's fans to hear, she spoke the truth. As far as Bobbi Brown being responsible for her demise, he may have introduced her to illegal drugs or steered her in that direction, but the bottom line is...she had her own mind and made her own choices so the end result ultimately rests with Whitney herself. I stilll love her though and I will miss her music.
I don't see what the big deal is...She apparently is the only person who actually had the balls to say what is going on with these celebrities abusing drugs. Everything she said is absolutely right. Drugs kill people. Just not worth it.
Celine is honest and said what many people are thinking but won't say out loud. I agree with her 100%.
Well DUH... Oh my god, I remember seeing Whitney Houston once in person in LA and she had coke smears all over her nose and face. I know what they look like cause I did some in Paris but that was just redic. She was a hot hot mess. Amazing singer, probably the best pop singer ever, but a hot mess. Thanks Celine for being HONEST! Celine's comments will save lives.
GOOD LORD PEOPLE – Celine was telling the truth. I'm sick to death of Michael, and Whitney and other druggies being sainted just because of their celebrity. Regular folks die of overdoses day in and day out – AND NO ONE SAYS A WORD ABOUT THEIR wonderful lives.
She was a celebrity – and an addict – and it killed her.
Yes, Celine is right. The problem is the timing. Whitney hasn't even been laid to rest yet. Her family is in shock especially her poor mother and daughter. She wasn't incorrect, just insensitive to make these remarks at this time.
Think about this...it's the Hollywood types that are financing and eggin-on the media's attempt to skew social policy to the left (way left). The blind leading the blind.
People just hating because it's a white woman (also Canadian which is another no no) talking smack about a black American singer. She was just saying the truth though. P.S. Crack is whack
Well DUH you got that right. Pretty well said.
Typical Celine Dion – no tact – no class :(
All is there!!! you just have to read the blog!
Def of Tact::
ability to deal with others with skill, sensitivity, and finesse
skill (Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse...),
sensitivity (Whitney has been an amazing inspiration for me),
and finesse(Whitney was such an amazing artist," Dion said Saturday. "When I started my English career, I wanted to be like her. I loved her so much. My prayers go out to her daughter and to all of her family)
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Celine said.
Oh no, a handful of people on Twitter didn't like what she said! Oh no!!
Celine need to mind her own damn business! No one asked for opinion. She needs to worry about her children and her husband.
GMA asked for her opinion, did you read the blog?
Eric who would you like to listen to when they're all gone, will you listen to your own recording, i bet you can't sing or just maybe all you can do is Rap a song, that's not singing that's talking into a song. Everyone can Rap but not everyone can sing. What Celine is trying to say is be aware of what is going on. Too many musical genius are gone and we lost them forever for stupid reasons. They're not born in every street corner, they only come once in a life time. unless you want to live a very boring life without musically talented people like Whitney. She's gone and we've lost her forever. Celine said the truth and if you can't take it well i'm sorry to say that you're a person who like to live your life in denial.
Celine is right. For all you young singers out there... make your records and get on the covers of magazines. That's all that you wanted since you were a kid. Was partying in Hollywood part of your vision too? I'd say no. You can make your records in Hollywood, but then go home to Anytown, USA and wait for for your agent to call you with the next publicity shot. Just fly into L.A.... do what you have to... then go back home.
Profound Grasp of the Obvious! Good on Celine for articulating what everybody should know.
We need to be reminded over and over and over of the danger of which Celine speaks! Too many people have squandered their talents and their families and their lives. Whatever may have caused Whitney's tragic death, we can all learn from Whitnesy's life, her hard work and her untimely passing.
i understand whitney houston's daughter also started drinking and doing drugs by the age of 12. and has been in rehab 2 times already. great voice but the saying goes-the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Asked to give a tribute? She did in saying that she loved her and wanted to be like her. She also gave a 100% accurate portrayal of show biz and the pitfall that it is. The truth hurts. Deal with it or make excuses for another talent gone down the toilet.
100 % heartfelt truth. Bad influences from family, friends and co workers, combined with a corrupt enviorment can spell trouble for anyone. Celine, Keep it up and lend some efforts to support those who need your help in battling drug addiction.
I to feel the same as Celine, but before I read this article I have always felt that the last several years of Whitney's life was troubled with personal issues and drugs problems. She was doing her best I feel to overcome her demons, but something just was not right. Her daughter should have been her first priority (I hope she's not going down the same road) Whitney comes from a respected family and I know that they had to know what her issues were and I would hope that they would have done something. Whitney had a voice no one could match. But we as her fans have our opinions and hope that they get their lives together, but sadly this does not always happen. Celine has been my favorite singer for years and I do agree that if you keep your distance from bad influences then you should have a good career and good life if anything for your children. My prayers go out to Whitney's family and I wish her family the best.
Doing drugs is a bad choice in life. People start out doing drugs thinking the can "Handle Them". Drugs are so powerfull no one can handle them. Over time they own the persons body, mind and soul; sometimes they kill the person.
Dion is smart to be scared. Wake up Hollywood.
Celine Dion is right. Truth is hard to accept. I cried all day yesterday for Houston because I grew up with her music but that didn't stop me from thinking the same thing as Celine Dion.
I agree, truth hurts and people love to live in denial. I think she was just stating the obvious, and I don't think she meant to be malicious or mean in any way. Perhaps if the people around her were a little more forthright, she could've been helped much sooner.
Celine was so right about all of the stars she has mentioned. If people are mad about thet I guess then the truth really does hurt.
You got that right Sharon, i can't agree more.
I am ashamed FOR Celine Dion after hearing her tactless mindless banter on GMA this morning. Addiction is a disease, it is not a choice and it is but a symptom of what's going on emotionally. Unfortunately addicts either get well or die & the work & choice to recover belongs to the addict and is hard work – for the rest of your life. As insidious as addiction is, if you're in the company of entourage folks relying on you for their livelihood & you live in the public eye, must be even harder. I know Whitney never chose to be incapacitated or degrade herself, she had a disease. She was a rare & beautiful talent & I hope she has achieved the peace she sought in life. And Celine, a woman whose husband has been attracted to her since she was 12 yrs old should just mourn silently as you've nothing positive to say or have no words to comfort a young 18 yr old woman who lost her mother tragically. The blame game doesn't help, it just hurts others unnecessarily.
Thats BS. I agree that addiction is a disease but she did have a choice. She chose to start doing illegal drugs. You can't have an addiction when you haven't started.
Addiction is not a choice?.....Wake up, or get off the sleeping pills and face the reality. Addiction s not a disease it is a choice period. Addicted people are weak people that don't want to or too lazy to get rid of their bad behavior . Don't tell me it's a disease because you're out of context.
She made a "Choice" when she started taking the drugs. The drugs didn't just take her over. It was a fatal choice. It's what we teach our kids. Let's be honest about it.
Considering the huge amount of mindless vituperation Celine Dion has had to tolerate from American nabobs it makes perfect sense that she doesn't want to immerse herself in that mess. She doesn't much give a flying f what the American press says and it's offending their sense of power. To those of you who have been in a coma for the last 20 years: Whitney Houston is/was a superstar with crack addled, dumpster divier tendancies that she loudly displayed in front of millions whenever she managed to emerge from her hotel room. Whitney Houston ruined -everything- with her many obvious three-week-tweaks. Dion has eyes and ears. P.S. America HATED Barbra Streisand during her 40s and now she's American Royalty. The same will happen with Celine Dion.
At least here's someone who made sense. I totally agree with you.
I truly felt sad for Whitney Houston but I reserved my profound admiration and respect for the great Etta James. Celine Dion spoke the truth and I agreed with her completely.
I'm proud of Celine for being honest about the Whitney situation! I appreciated Whitney's music, but unfortunately she made the wrong choices in her life that MAY have led to her unfortunate demise. Unfortunately, celebraties are put on a super-human scale and often turn to drugs to cope w/ the stress in their lives. Even Charlie Sheen was headed in that direction just last year...Their lifestyle is difficult, but it's their sacrifice for money and fame! Sometimes you have to think to yourself, is it really worth it! Instead of criticizing Celine, other celebraties should take her advice and Whitney fans should face the reality of the situation!
STAY OUT OF THE TUB!
Shouldn't people at least wait until the cause of death is known before running their mouths on both sides of the controversy? I have watched THE BODYGUARD dozens of times, and listened to her music for decades and these rants about drugs and her problems are the best you people can do to remember her with LOVE and KINDNESS? I will always love you too Whitney and your experience has taught me to love myself even more as my gift to myself and humanity as a result of your loss.
Celebrity worship will get you nowhere except to disapointment and heartache.
The truth shall set us free! Celine cares deeply enough to say the truth. It hurts but it sets us free if we listen. Far to many people have lost battles with addictions to horrible substances like drugs. Let's be thankful for Whitney's talent but let's fight drug addiction with the truth! Just look at all the current celebrities and ordinary folk who suffer each day. We can thank Celine for having the guts to tell the truth.
Well it's the truth. Drugs DID take over her life. At the end she had lowered her singing pitch an octave and even then had only a five note range. Good fo you, Celine. You only said what the rest of us out here think and know.
The lesson is-dont pop pills, drink ur favorite alcohol, smoke a fatty, get in a bath , fall asleep and drown!
Celine... thank you for saying what was in your heart! If anyone thinks that drugs have vanished from the music industry, well... I have a nice bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. We all have followed Whitney's rise in the 80's and her turbulent relationship with Bobby Brown and her dependancy on drugs and alcohol. Ms. Whitney struggled these past couple of decades, rehab and such. It's like the proverbial train wreck... you see it coming but can't stop it. All I can say is my prayers go out to her daughter and her family.... and that Ms. Whitney is in heaven, finally at peace and her demons finally vanquished.
You really need to do your research. If you do you will discover that Whitney was a drug user prior to getting with Bobby Brown. Those close to her (not just random people that always find negative things to speak) have said she had tremendous overnight success and how strict her mom was being in church and she didnt know how to handle that success. So she did what any child who comes from under a strict upbringing once they taste freedom. She went wild. She was beautiful and talented which threw people off but she was a functioning drug addict. Then she meets Bobby who was a 'bad boy', probably smoked weed, drank alcohol but Bobby couldnt afford those type of drugs. She introduced him to drugs not the other way around. I loved Whitney Houston but I will not blame Bobby for her downfall and neither should anyone else. She said herself in the interview with Diane Sawyer that she was her own worst enemy, no one forced her to do anything, she decides what she wants and doesnt. So Whitney is to blame for that. I am not looking down on her because it was an illness that she could not kick. You better be careful what you say behind your computer about this and that because for all you know you could be addicted to something you cant come back from five minutes from now. If anything respect the fact she has a daughter and her father happens to be Bobby Brown whom you have directed fault to. What would we find in your closet?
Seriously for people to sit here and say Celine Dion is insensitive about her comments about the Whitney Houston situation should take a look in the mirror and point that finger back at themselves. She is saying whatever else is saying she just chose to air those opinions on a national outlet. I applaud her for her fears, opinions, and how she chose to respond in the light of the situation. We all are saying it was a drug problem that inevitably killed her so be so shocked when a celebrity says the same thing.
At last, somebody who speaks the truth. Part of the guilt should be shared with Whitney's entourage and family. Her problems were not a secret, but greed always seems to come first.
Celine Dion is 100% wrong!!! Nobody yet knows how Whitney died. Celine should keep her opinions to herself until the facts are know. Makes me ashamed to be Quebecoise.
What Celine said is true, but i don't blame you for being ashamed of being a Quebecoise, i would too.
Whitney has been "dead" for 15 years. Celine is the one performing in Vegas and still alive. Whitney was always my favorite female vocalist. The best that ever was. But she could have been doing just what Celine is doing with better personal choices. Drugs killed her a long, long time ago. So did "show business". Celine's comments are the most enlightened yet. Or we could just go on pretending and lose many more like Whitney.
Never use an entertainer/athlete as a role model.
Celine Dion is a pretty good role model.
Celine just stated the obvious, why are people bashing her. Whitney's toxicology results did not provide any answers yet, but the prescribed drugs was dangerous for her and it contributed to her death as well as her past drug abuse. Celine is saying what most have heard and she only told the truth which most people don't want to hear. Everyone is acting as if Whitney's problems were private and no one has the right to judge her on what contributed to her death. Come on, all of this was displayed in public and everyone knows this was inevitable. It's sad Whitney has to go at this age but her actions and her ways to cure her problems brought her to this stage. Everyone likes to remember the positive things about whitney and it's true she is a great singer and colleague to her peers, or she's a good mother to her daughter and we can't judge her on that since those were personal relationships. But celine and all of us can judge her and come to the conclusion that drugs, bad people and bad influence led her to this destructive path.
Congratulations to Celine Dion. She said what every other entertainer should have said. We did lose someone who could sing 10 years ago but lately you could see her voice was shot. Wake up Hollywood stars and Musicians...
Celine Dion is absolutely right!!! what now? they are attacking her now? what for? GO CELINE!! say no to drugs!
Celine is right. She's above and beyond reproach; we've never seen pictures of hr drunk, wild, obnoxious or out of control. Michael did it in secret, Whitney was all over the place with it and no one could stop her. Sad. Mariah was in the thick of it, too, but thankfully she got herself a nice family. Celine Dio speaks the truth: money and fame do not save these people, not even the concept of "Jesus Love Me" can save some of things wealthy addicts.
Dion is correct with her comments. Houston was a powerhouse in the 80's and 90's and if not for her drug use, she would have been a lot more. Her career collapsed because of drugs. The news is giving tribute to a person that existed in the industry 20+ years ago. She had virtually nothing for the past 10+ years.
Her death was not a shock. It was just a matter of time.
Celine said what she felt. I agree. No, she may not have died from an overdose, only the autopsy results can tell. But long term drug use can cause death years after the abuse has ended.
U can't blame BBrown she was on drugs before they meet. The truth hurts but somebody needed to say it.
Exactly and thats what they fail to realize. The media is at fault for bringing that up. Thats the first thing they mentioned after the story broke. He has nothing to do with that. He didnt have the money to even do those type of drugs. She introduced him. I love Whitney's music, wished I could sing like her as a child but she was on drugs long before Bobby, lets be real.
What would have been the comments had Whitney died from a car accident?
Whether or not drugs were involved.
People would have said it's unfortunate to die so young in a car accident, it's simple as that.
It;s not so much her talking about druges, but her judgment of Whitney's love and motherhood. As we have heard and seen Whitney's love for Bobbi was pure. Celine has no right to judge. ""It took over her dreams, it took over love and motherhood" "You have responsibilities as a mother, and then something happens and it destroys everything" From what I see there was nothing destroyed between Whitney and Bobbi. Who knows, I could go around saying Celine's love for her children are bought because of all the crap she buys them. Regardless of Whitney's possible drug abuse or not, she is a loving and caring mother.!!!
I don't see how anyone can have an issue with Celine speaking from her heart about someone she idolized so much. She was obviously scared and sad. If anything, it's just a question of timing. I think it's just too soon for some people to discuss the truth.
But Celine Dion is a passionate person - always has been - and it's ridiculous to question her talent because you're offended by her speaking from her heart. She has been through the pressures of this business and has dealt with it in a healthy way, so I think she has merit to speak on this situation.
R.I.P. Whitney Houston.
I appreciate Celine's open and honest remarks. She spoke from the heart and was not disrespectful at all. We can't just talk about Whitney's voice; actualy the voice has been gone for years. The drugs were the real tragedy; however, none of us know what drove her to drugs nor can we comprehend why such a talented, loving woman who professed to know Christ, was so obviously tormented. Now, may her daughter, mother and family find comfort and healing as her star rises brighter than ever.
Celine Dion may have told the truth as we all know it but she has "foot in mouth disease" which is another name for "insensitivity" to blurt out the truth when it isnt called for. Her timing is off. Stupid french canadian . She doesnt have the sense to speak compassionately about the dead.
You can call Celine a stupid Canadian all you want, but what's the compassion is use for when all you do is sit your behind and wait till they all die and then you have compassion for them. Wouldn't it be better if you would just try to inform people of the danger of the drugs and to save some some lives instead.
Her comments were insensitive given the timing. Ms. Houston's family and friends were reeling with the news of her death and Ms. Dion is passing judgement on Ms. Houston's personal life. Did Ms.Houston have a history of substance use; it seems so. But this interview was not the time place or place to air opinions on it.
Also, given the reports of friends, can we reserve judgement? No one knows the cause of death yet.
Trey, I'm guessing that the people very close to Houston knew what was going on. It's ok to talk about the bad with the good because thats what makes up a person.
Is the timing off, maybe but you can't just sugar coat her death as a complete shock.
Celine is correct. Her addicition won. It didn't help that those around her enabled her, and her marriage was so grossly distructive. Addiction is a horible disease. It does not discriminate. This disease affects the soul, physically, mentally and spiritually. It leaves many a relationship torn and distroyed. The vastly talented celebrities we have lost to this disease is incredibly long. And it would be beneficial for the entertainment community help educate people. It is sorely misunderstood, as it is not just a matter of removing the substances. It's not surprising that people write and judge her as everything but the insecure, fear based woman that knew excruciating pain most will never feel. I truly hope she is at peace now.
yea everyone has a right to comment. Everyone could also be speaking the truth. We can debate that all day long. What got me about celine's comments were: she was not asked about that. The questions were about what did she think about whitney's talent, career, legacy, influence on the art of singing. There is a time and place to speak the so called truth.....I just don't think that was the venue for it. Also to celine and all the others who have posted and said things over the past 2 days.....be real careful about saying what you would never do. You never know for sure what you would do until you are in that situation in a time/season of your life. The things that trip me up maybe things that you don't struggle with....but the things that I have no problem with...just maybe the things that cause your down fall. That lifestyle is different and I pray for people who struggle with the things of that life style and hope they are helped. but I pray for those who struggle. as whitney once said...sometimes it is great to have people look at her without automatically jumping into a mode of judging her, I will hold off on my opinions as to the lifestyle until it is appropreate and when it asked. until now, I will celebrate her life and move on
Everyone knew Whitney was a drug abuser for years since meeting Bobbi Brown, the person who introduced her to the junkie life. It was NO secret in the music business Whitney snorted cocaine daily and took pils night and day. Celine Dion hit the nail on the head.
Don't forget that she use to lace her pot with crack cocaine before smoking it.
USA has to wake up and stop this hide and seek game. What Celine Dion was trying to say is simple. The only place in the world which produce to most biggest Celebrities is USA, everyone knows that. But these days and in this Generation take all those Celebrities and put them in one room, i mean all of them. Pass them a drug test, you'd be surprise to find out that 98% of them are on some kind of drug one way or the other. With all those consumed drugs, they will probably be dead in a few years, they will fall like a Domino Effect. And it will be the end of USA being the only place to produce Celebrities. You will go behind other countries and be forgotten. You don't have to believe me or Celine Dion, it's your choice. But if you decide to sit down and wait and do nothing about it, then you will give me and Celine Dion the credits that we were both right. Now it's up to you to decide what you want to do with the Drug Problem in the Show Business in the US of A.
It's not that her fans are in denial. It's the fact that Celine Dion was asked to call in to give a tribute to Whitney, not issue a public sermon and finger-wagging. Just because comments may be truthful does not mean they are appropriate in every setting. You wouldn't go to someone's memorial service or funeral who had passed away due to substance abuse of some sort and then get up and start being critical of their life's choices, rebuking them, etc. While your comments may be true, it is absolutely not the appropriate time and setting for those comments. You would know that what is appropriate at that time is to honor their life and memory... That is what the situation and setting call for. Celine was asked to call in to GMA and honor Whitney and what she meant to music. There is a time and place for everything, and once toxicology results are released, if it's proven that drugs played a part in her death, then maybe at that time these sentiments can be shared in that appropriate forum and at that appropriate time. For example, if Dr. Drew was doing a show on the topic of celebrity and the pitfalls that the famous face and often fall prey to, that's more of an appropriate setting for Celine's comments. But when you are asked to call in to GMA to honor Whitney's memory and share what she's meant to the music industry, do just that and save your climb up on the soap box for another time.
JUNIOR.....you are correct that maybe that was not the proper forum to speak THE TRUTH.......there will never be a proper time/place to speak of this, but Celine, like most of the world is saddened with the fact that this extraordinarily talented muscians/actors have left us way too soon because of their "demons"......DRUGS have taken over their souls.....DRUGS have taken their talent.....DRUGS have consumed their life choices.....and if we do not stop and take notice and be HONEST to all the EVIL that DRUGS do to us/them, then it will just get worse.....Cuz it's NOT getting any better! GOOD FOR CELINE FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH.....AND HOPEFULLY ALL THOSE GOD-GIVEN-TALENTED MUSICIANS TAKE NOTE.........DO NOT DO DRUGS!!!!!.......LOOK AT WHAT IT DOES TO YOUR FAMILY.....LOOK WHAT IT DOES TO YOUR FANS.........LOOK, LIVE AND LEARN! PLEASE!!!!
If toxicology reports come out like we all think they will, don't let this unfortunate incident pass without using it as a teachable moment for your kids. Every time there is a show on tv about the dangers of drugs a have my kids sit and watch. I want them to be scared of drugs. Use her death as a way to save others.
Celine speaks it. Absolute truth. Anytime anyone inside an industry calls it out, the criticisms come, the self-righteousness and hypocrisy. Of course the powers in, and culture of, entertainment don't want to face the truth: the money will stop flowing, then. Sad and tragic that Whitney becomes another example of the mess. RIP Whitney.
What a shame...just like everyone who has been effected by drugs and the disease of addiction – Whitney was powerless. Unfortunately she chose not to be in recovery.
Remember folks all those disaggreeing with Celion's comments are ENABLERS and would have spent Whitney's money while she started towards the grave as Bobby Brown did. Plus Jennifer Holliday said she took care of her voice that's why she can hit notes from 30years ago and Whitney was sad she lost her voice due to lifestyle...where is the backlash from this TRUTH!! Bobby brown killed Whitney Houston after Cissy staged an intervention to still lose her baby~~~!
At the end of the day Whitney was a grown woman! What would we find in your closet?
I'm not even a Celine Dion fan, but of course she's right.
Why would she draw criticism for stating what is right in front of our eyes?
I'm not a fan of Celine, but what she said is the truth, and it is something that Whitney Houston herself admitted in interviews from time to time. Whether or not Houston died from drugs, it is well known that her drug abuse and drinking ruined her singing ability and was detrimental to her career and health. What a waste. I sincerely hope Houston is at peace. Condolences to her friends and family.
Why does Celine need saving? While of course it matters why Whitney Died, her life was taken over by her drug use- that is just fact and it is incredibly sad that that happens to people, so why was Celine wrong for being loving and kind and saying that? It is scary that drugs seem to be more enticing then your life- and more really should be done to keep drugs away from people. It is so sad that Whitney DIed and whatever the reason- it is still sad, but it is even sadder that when she was alive- she lost out on much of life!
.I grieve for the loss of whitney and her dtr especially. i agree w/Celine, another fabulous voice. Why isn't everyone going after drew pinsky, jane valez mitchell et al who say what celine has said basically??? it is human nature to want to know causes, to be afraid, to have great concern for the daughter leftt behind......Whitney made Dolly's highly personal very SOFT version of "I will always love you" into one strictly where one's pipes could be blown out and move an audience in a different direction. Great song by both performers and certainly Jennifer Hudson is to be highly honored also. May you finally rest in peace, Whitney, and may others heed your words as to how a person can be a "drug" and how thinking you have to be "perfect" all the time is more than one can reasonably expect.
Celine was truthful, respectful but truthful. Why is it that the media has been reporting on her drug and alchohol abuse and now that Celine comments or speaks of it so many are appalled she would talk openly about Whitney's real troubles. Celine is not judgemental she only recognizes what the facts are and how sorrowful it is to lose so many talented people to drugs and alcohol. I for one am glad for what she said and more singers, musicians, and actors should be saying the same thing. They should come together and raise awareness of a problem that so desperately needs to be dealt with openly and honestly.
Will any one be shocked when it comes out that drugs were involved. To those tweeters that were upset with her, please save your false anger.
Was anyone really surprised when they announced her death? It was just sad.
Celine Dion is correct to be scared. The list of enablers in each and every drug death case is always long. Prescription drugs are not to be played with yet...these stars get lost in a make believe world where drugs are the answer for all life's problems. It's no secret that Whitney battled with addiction and faced some harsh realities. Her stellar voice that once lifted her up had been abused too much to recover, the public backlash against her behavior had been going for awhile, her albums weren't selling and concert goers were walking out and demanding their ticket prices back. Oce (again) doctors prescribe medication(s) to a person with obvious addiction issues and the patient died. How about we use Whitney's death as a wake up call to change the laws governing a doctor's responsibility to NOT over prescribe and to intervene with addiction cases? When Ron Reagan was shot James Brady got shot in the head. The gun laws (finally) got looked into and re-worked. It's time for the same type "looking into" with prescription drugs BEFORE another celebrity dies...NOT after!
Celine Dion shared her opinion and she got it right!!! Celine has done it right in the entertainment
industry where so many have got it wrong. Celine has put her family first and she has demonstrated this
by not touring so she can stay close to her family. Family first...way to go Celine.
Judge Not lest ye be judged. I am very disappointed in all of the comments made in reference to Whitney Houston and the disrespectfulness and insensitive responses. I do not understand how some people can have no respect for the dead or the living for that matter. Yes, people have a right to their own opinion. But when one uses their opinion to voice aloud to influence others... Well it usually means that they are lacking. Look in the mirror and examine yourself before you utter a word about someone else's life. If you find perfection, then you are either crazy or must be God. I find it distasteful to not respect the family and Whitney's life in their time of sorrow. This may be why God has taken this beautiful person away from the earth, so she can no longer be mistreated! Rest in the arms of the Lord Whitney E. Houston! My prayers are for the living that you have left behind!
Oh give me a break. Are you Kidding? Do you seriously think we should all stand around 'respectfully' silent in this situatution? This is the passing of one of the finest vocal talents in the history of the human species. And you think we should stand here and shuffle our feet and look at the ground and mumble quietly to ourselves, lest we be Judging? The very fact that some one like Celine - and folks like us - care enough to read & write & speak about it means this is an important loss - it is the loss of a person and a talent we respect enough to have concerns for. It would be unforgiveably Stupid - and I'd say disrespectful of Whintey Houston's importance, as well - for us to hush up, deny, or ignore the True aspects of this tragedy. God doesn't want us to ignore or never speak of bad things. God doesn't wish for us to Fail to learn from the world around us. You are Very Badly mis-understanding "Judge Not" and its meaning, and you are denying yourself an understanding of the true depths of this tragedy. This is not a Death. This is a LOSS. It's the loss of something Important. If we fail to fully appreciate the loss And Its Causes, we don't understand the loss.
That is why so many continue in their destructive lifestyle because nobody wants to be open and honest. Its not about judgement but about truth and the truth is Whitney, a beautiful, extremely talented individual let the drugs/alcohol take over her life. And if anyone should speak the loudest it should be her family. If it hurts the world to see a talented singer's life cut short how much more her family who loved her so much. There will never be another Whitney. for her voice was unique and incomparable but its the time to recognize how evil drug/alcohol abuse can be and does not discriminate male or female, rich or poor, I should know I lost a brother to alcohol abuse. I am but one voice, if we all who recogize the problem and save 1 who would bring such artistic beauty to the world it will be worth it.
If people are SMART they will use Whitney's tragic story and demise as a wake up call for others in show biz or otherwise. People need to start speaking about this HONESTLY NOW. Whitney did not have to die at 48; Bobbi Kristina needed her around when she starts thinking about her career, marriage, family, children, etc. Whitney will miss all of that because she had enablers and people taking advantage of her weakness.
God bless and protect Ms. Cissy Houston and Bobbi, may Whitney finally rest in peace, and SHAME on every single person who used and enabled her. Whitney was sick and needed the people in her life to stop laughing at her and help her. Whitney's death is very upsetting and kudos to Celine for talking. "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything."
R.I.P. Whitney, and I will always love her beauty and voice; she was a beautiful gift.
We just need to pray for the Houston family for the days ahead. Have we all looked into the mirror of life? How have your life been? What have happen within your personal life, that you wouldn't want people to know? It was no secret of the drug problems in her life. Everyday, she fought that addiction, which is a process to overcome. How dare any of you point a finger, Never say Never, you will never know what may be serve at your table. Remember, we all have appointment with death, but when we stand before the Judgement, what are you going say? Don't judge, for the same judgement you cast, will be cast upon you. Remember the good in her life. Check Yourself and see what you have to say now!!!
Nice, unbiased reporting, CNN. And there were NO tweets saying Celine was right on the money, huh.
Celine is absolutely right. i have no idea how to mourn the loss of this caliber of talent and Ignore what caused the loss. Keep in mind we lost it not just from this moment forward, but for the last 15+ years. People are not like The Market - past perfoprmance Does, sometimes sadly, indicate future performance. So odds are her death had something to do with drugs. Perhaps her death has to do with damage wreaked by previous drug use, even if it was not directly caused by drugs taken That Day. Either way - this matters. It figures in. If she'd been killed by a drunk driver or breast cancer you can Bet Those would be an active, important, considered part of the discussion. The Cause - whatever it turns out to be - is intimately co-mingled with the Result, and if you deny or ignore that you're something worse and more dangerous than naive. You're an apologist and an enabler. Furthermore, even if she slipped on a bar of soap Saturday, the fact remains that this world lost nearly two decades of this woman's incandescent, angelic talent to drug abuse and addiction. That loss - even if she were still alive today - is too great, and a tragedy, and should forever stand as a warning to others. Bravo to Celine Dion.
I, too, have always been a Whitney fan. Whether or not drugs and/or alcohol come back in toxicology does not mean that they did not play a factor in her death. We all know that she spent many year abusing her body as she had openly admitted in the past. A person can only go so long abusing themselves before tragedy strikes. This is the sad truth and certainly a tragedy.
While watching the Grammy's last night, I looked at Taylor Swift and noted that she looks so young and innocent and said a little prayer that doesn't get wrapped up in this aspect of "stardom". I pray for Whitney's daughter, that she has the strength to get through these terrible times and doesn't turn to drugs. Most of all, I hope and pray that the talented stars of my generation (and all generations) finally learn from Michael and Whitney and so many before them, not to get involved in drugs (prescription or illegal). Rest in peace, Whitney.
Amen. Well put.
For validation of Celine's comments, watch Whitney Houston's "concert" on none other than... GMA.
I rest me case, your honor.
(surprised more people didn't blame racism or 'the Man')
I guess these days 'anything goes'...except being honest.
Hey Cnn you need to delete the idiots who have know idea of how to talk on the Internet..THE ALL CAPS MEANS YOU ARE YELLING YOU FRICKEN IDIOTS...Wow who would of guessed you learned something on a Cnn Blog Fricken idiots lol
Really? When you read the comments and they are all caps you are telling us that you imagine that person yelling those words. Really? Thats hilarious.
Celine said something wrong? Whitney is a great singer. Whitney did abuse drugs. It's unfortunate how it ended. I pray for her daughter.
Celine Dion is expressing her opinion which she has a right to. She is in the business and sees more than we do. She knows probably from witnessing Whitney's downfall into drugs. Whitney admitted that she abused drugs and alcohol. This is not speculation. Unfortunately, Whitney was unable to break free from the drugs while here on Earth but she is surely free now and with the Lord! God Bless Whitney, her daughter and mother. Prayers of strength for Bobbi Kristina should be emanating from everyone!!!
I have always been a whitney fan, and I have been a proffesional singer all my life. I do know how the world of entertaining can lead you down that broken road. I myself got out a few years ago, due to the lifestyle I found myself falling into. there were too many people around me encouraging me to do wrong when all I wanted to do was the right thing. If you acted like you were not into it, they shun you. So you have to close yourself OUT, just like Celine said. There is not a happy medium. You have to stay away from people that try to encourage you to do drugs. We have this thing called "Free will. we need to use it. I am glad I did. I wish Whitney could of loved herself more to be able to keep away from Everything. She simply replace one bad for the other. I also wish she had a stronger family and friends base who could and should have come down on her with the strongest tuffest love ever. But she chose to do what she loved best. Its so traggic.
THE PROBLEM WAS THE COMMENT THE PROBLEM WAS THE TIME IT WAS MADE. THE WOMAN ISNT EVEN BURRIED YET. YOU ALL TALK ABOUT THE TRUTH IS IF THIS WERE SOMEONE YOU KNEW HALF OF YOU WOULDNT BE THIS LIBERAL THIS SOON. BUT ITS EASIER TO PASS JUDGEMENT THEN TO BE JUDGED! Firstly there was an assumption that it was drugs that caused her death, and while I understand how she fairly came to that assumption, assuming makes an a** out of you. Secondly there was an insensitivty being that this woman has jusrt recently passed. There will be plenty of time for the media to disect her every mistake in life, but had this been a personal family member to dion (god forbid) or anyone who agreed with her statements, I doubt her first comments would have been all the negative things they've done in their life. I dont' disagree with some of her statements, i disagree with the manner and time period of which she made them!
And when would be the right time? Next week, when the world has moved on and no one is listening? Did anyone get backlash for making the same comments about Amy Winehouse before her body was cold? I think not.
Good for Celine! Like someone I know said, why are we putting these people on pedestals? Yes, they may have ONCE been great artists, but they allowed drugs and alcohol to ultimately take over their lives! Yes, Celine is right, drugs were more important to Whitney than her family, friends, career and even her daughter.
We have the choice in life to allow something to consume us or for us to just say NO. This is not new news considering we are taught to say NO from the time we begin school until the remainder of our days. She MAY have been clean of illegal drugs, but she was still an addicted and a stupid doctor prescribed her meds.
So, yes, more people need to point out what the down falls are NOW and less about what the good was 20 years ago.
Celine took the high road. Weaker, vulnerable people don't. Celine's view is infinitely more helpful than the endless apologies and forgiveness for "poor addicted people" who can't help themselves. Celine's idea is don't put yourself in addiction's path. For some that WILL work. For many, it will not. Bravo Celine for taking the high road and for being a champion of that path. Considering all we know about addiction, it is a pity so few vulnerable people continue to avoid the crash path into addiction. Congratulations Celine for taking and recommending the high road!
It's nice to finally have a public figure speak out about the well known drugs in Hollywood. It's nice that Celine cares about her young fans to be a good role model and say that she doesn't even attend these parties. GOOD ON YOU CELINE!
where is the like button, because I fully agree! Sadly, MJ and WH were the "idols" of my day... I have none now as an adult considering all of them have to simply put it, committed suicide with drugs.
Why are people slaming C D coments. She's 100% Right. Whie very SAD Iindeed. Let's not forget that W H was a drug addict and she borought this upon herself. A huge talent with a lot issues. She even said it herself " I'm my own worst ememy.
I don't listen to Ms. Dion's music because I don't believe screaming is music.
But she's right.
There is no reason to bash Celine Dion for her opinion, which was seeked out GMA. That is her opinion and she did not say anything bad.
The truth hurts, but Celine is right. Anyone knows what a great, talented singer Whitney was, and everyone will miss her. But drugs did take over, and likely took her life. I wish all the best to her daughter.
Celine Dion is right. Show business is very dangerous. Artists are taking medications or drugs for any reason. True artists are very sensitive people. Otherwise they would not be artists who move us to tears. Michael Jackson could not sleep. He could not sleep because of persecution by the media and prosecution scammers. Artists suffer, and media have no compassion for those sensitive souls.
I heard on the news that none of the prescription drugs they found in Whitney's hotel room were lethal by themselves but could be lethal when combined w/ each other or alcohol. It seems like some kind of drugs were involved in her death. I don't have a problem w/ what Celine Dion said. I wish she had never been with Bobbi Brown.
She was found in a bathtub underwater. Unless she fell getting in/out of the bathtub, she had to have passed out, either by drugs/alcohol or by something else. Interesting to see the report when it comes out.
What does Bobby have to do with anything? Whitney was a loose cannon before meeting him. I think its just foolish that people make that comment. She introduced him to the hard stuff. He didnt have the kind of money it takes to buy that. She said that herself that she made to much money to smoke that weak stuff. If she hadnt met Bobby she was still going to have her battle with drugs because the problem was there prior to Bobby. She said it herself in that interview that she is her own worst enemy. So be careful what you say they have a daughter who can read this garbage. I guess if you became addicted to something people could say your husband, mother, brother, sister are to blame. At the end of the day Whitney was a grown woman!
Celine Dion was out of line. First and foremost, Whitney was...WAS a drug addict but that does not dictate her entire life. How dare all of you for passing judgement on her as if you know personally her life struggles. NO ONE KNOWS expect the people that were most closet to her and for those of you that ask "where were the ppl that loved her so much, did they help..." Clearly, none of you have ever experienced a fam or friend addicted to drugs. HELLO...there is a CABLE show called Intervention to give ppl insight into this horrible addiction. Drug use is life changing. What is normal to us, is not normal to a drug addict; however, because Whitney had amazing GRACE from GOD...she was able to break free...of course there were struggles and lasting effects from her drug use; however, to carry on as if you or CELINE was there until the very end is disrespectful and MEAN. I will never understand how so many people in this world would much rather pride themselves on being CRUEL than respectful. SMH Whitney was a HUMAN being that experienced human being struggles that she was able to overcome...it hurts that all some of you will be able to remember is her drug use. FOr you, that trumps the great talent she was. I pray GOD never turns His back on any of you, the way you do the ppl in this world. Talking as if you all are within sin and got a heaven or a hell to put someone in. Shame on you all. Celine was out of line and to make mention of Whitney's motherhood...so out of line. Indeed out of line.
It's apparent you know nothing about addiction and substance abuse. Drug addiction is just like alcohol addiction. Meaning an addict is in "recovery" for life and has to avoid drugs and alcohol at all costs.
Um, when you place yourself in situations where you know you should not be there because of past addictions (or present) and the fact that her daughter was following in her mother’s footsteps... yes, you can criticize her parenting. There is a huge difference in being a parent and being a friend… and WH wanted to be more of a friend than a parent.
Your right about who has the right to pass judgement. So I'll state facts.
Whitney abused drugs for a long period of time, she ruined her career because of drugs. She is dead.
No judgement passed.
Tanya: the key word is addict. If you are an addict, your life is under the control of whatever you are an addict of. If you think Celine was out of order, it only shows how scared you are of hearing the truth. Go hide under the blankets.
I disagree. It was HER choice to be a crack ho, no one else's. I only hope her daughter sees the big picture and leads a straight and narrow life, unlike her parents!!
A "crack ho"? Are you serious? Where did you pull that from? Can you identify? That comment speaks more about your character as a person than it does the negative content in which you tried to imply against Whitney. You should be ashamed of yourself. How would you feel if you had a fam member that died and at one time in their life they were on drugs and someone said that about them?
Remember, Whitney was someone's daughter, MOTHER, friend, sister, niece, GOD-child, etc, so be mindful of that when you release your venom into the world.
A "crack ho". WOW
Celine, what exactly did you do to help Whitney? While what she's saying is true, could you wait till at least she's buried before everyone starts with the 'I TOLD YOU SO' interviews. Perhaps is Celine had an ounce of personality, she'd be a part of the party scene.
First off, we do not know this was even related to drugs in the least. Second she was going to a party and the grammies, why kill yourself then? She was reported as fine and happy, her daughter was at the same hotel, usually do not kill yourself with child there. She was found in the bath tub, probably drowned by why is another story...lets not assume ya know what that stands for? to make ass out of you and me =assume
In Heaven- God to Whitney: "I gave you a tremendous once in a generation gift- what are you doing here?"
Celine is very brave to say the truth. It is not easy to be an normal person in show business.
REALLY, WHATS THE CONTROVERSY HERE? WHAT SHE SAID MAKES SENSE TO ME AN IM ONE OF THE BIGGEST WHITNEY LOVERS OF ALL TIME..ITS A DAM SHAME WE LOST HER..BUT WE LOST HER A LONG TIME AGO.
Celine is 100000% right. Anyone who would disagree is living in a bubble and in DENIAL.
Celine was right in describing the failures of Whitney Houston. I'm a mother and I can't IMAGINE wasting my life away with drugs. How can you be a good mother if you snort cocaine, drink excessively, and pop pills? Whitney Houston had one of the greatest voices of all time and wasted it all away. It's just a sad situation all around.
her worst mistake? Bobby Brown, that no good nggr crack addict who got her addicted to that....
In my opinion we've GOT to stop with this politically correct toleration of this deadly behavior. Whitney Houston CHOSE to use crack cocaine, despite the fact that she CLEARLY KNEW that it's a SERIOUS crime and that it's deadly. Addicted? Yes, FINE, I SYMPATHIZE, but there was a FIRST TIME when she CHOSE to do this. And all the many, many times afterward before she was addicted. A criminal is someone who commits a crime. Crack cocaine is a crime and it kills the user. Whitney Houston was a criminal who killed herself. Maybe such "intolerance" is needed right now – because the way things stand right now this is going to happen AGAIN. (And again and again.)
P.S. – And YES I know that the cause of death hasn't been determined yet and may have been prescription drugs. But why doesn't it occur to people that if she had depression and/or wasn't healthy enough to survive that blow, it was *directly* because of the crack and alcohol?
There's a time and place for EVERYTHING. A mother has lost her child; a child has lost her mother. If any has experience the lost of a mother whom they loved dearly you would understand what Celine said this morning was inappropriate at this time.
Very well put!
Its not what she said that's the problem, its the timing, its inappropriate... not the place or time to 'observe.' A life is gone. That people loved, especially her daughter, her Mom her family... you can discuss her shortcomings once she's properly buried.
And when would be the right time? Next week, when the world has moved on and no one is listening? Did anyone get backlash for making the same comments about Amy Winehouse before her body was cold? I think not. And what would you be saying if it were Lindsay Lohan?
Yup, just as I thought.
Celine is angry. And a whole lot of people, including Whitney's family, should be angry too.
I agree 100% everything that celine said but the timing is not right we all know that whitney has a drug problem but we also don't know if it's 100% sure that was the caused of the drowning. when you lost someone in the family the last thing you want to hear is criticism, negativity of why that person dies it doesn't really help on how you feel. She could at least have been more consoling and symphatyze to the family instead or did the interview after the autopsy result give the family a few days to settle down on their feelings and emotion and then she can say whatever...
I love Whitney music ,but be honest here! she was a drug addict not matter people that is in denial..her hubby Bobi brought her to the drugs ...Celine was riht finally someone told the truth, why the big scandal about her comments? it is true !PEOPLE stop being in DENIAL!
Drinking and taking Xanax is not a good idea.
You are right ,one glass of wine and taking Xanax is like ten glasses of alcohol it maximize the alcohol level, and is dangerous! Drugs and alcohol are not a good mix ,those two don't go together.
Please kindly tell me what exactly Celine said that was false or malicious. She spoke the truth. And yes, the truth hurts. She, by no means, alleged that her death was caused by abusing drugs directly. She only stated that drugs and bad influences took away a whole chunk of her life. It's just very sad and very unfortunate. Celine spoke from her heart and she spoke the truth. Bravo Celine! I'm a huge fan of Whitney and my heart goes out to her family and for all her millions of fans. It's just so sad that her life here on earth had to be so short lived. For whatever reason, I'm sure cocaine and all the drugs she abused damaged her body to a big extent. We'll only know the definitive reason for her death after the autopsy is revealed. Whatever the case, Whitney, you have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
People want to denied the real true in this case ..they are in denial .....she was a drug addict period! they know when she was alive and now they are in denial ....
Celine is 100% correct. Other celebs are shying away from the issue and I applaud Celine for telling the truth. She's Canadian. Canadians have a different outlook on life than Americans.
I agree with Celine's comments...how many of you when you heard Whitney Houston had died...immediately thought it was a drug overdose...Even if we find out that it was a heart attack or stroke...the fact of the matter is that drugs weakened her health and probably lead to her "premature death"....Its a shame that her demons got the best of her...but in the long run...she will be admired for what she was and her impact on music....she will be remembered in the same breath as Judy Garland, Elvis, etc. Dying way too young....but will be remembered for ages to come.
I agree fully with Celine. She and Gloria Estefan, to me, are the shining examples of women "divas" who have managed their careers spectacularly well. Estefan has been married to the same man for over 30 years, obviously puts her family first, has been a total paragon of virtue and, really... much of the same applies to Dion, too. Whitney had two great albums in the 80s and two big singles in the 90s - and make no mistake, she was a HUGE talent - but she spent a LOT more time in a lifestyle consumed by drugs and debauchery than she did making music. I'm a big Whitney Houston fan, but Celine Dion is dead-on 100% right: Whitney made the wrong choices and allowed drugs to destroy her career, and ultimately, her life.
Stop trying to deify the woman. Five years singing and twenty years mainlining cocaine does not a role model make.
What is it that when you tell the true people get upset? was Whitney not in drugs? of course! and because that she dies.maybe not overdose, but when you are in drugs and you just came from a party you are exhausted and you fell in sleep in the tub and you drowned! legal or illegal prescriptions are the same she was weak maybe, and the medication took over drugs ,drugs not matter where they come from they still drugs ,! look at MJ he overdose.Celine I am whit you ...drugs took over Whitney! I had tow good people in my life who die like that taking ,medications .
Celine was just lamenting the pressures and pitfalls of show business and how easily fame and fortune can lure one in a downward spiral. She herself is exceptional indeed to have recognized it, seen it, and protected herself from it while living in the midst of "that world". She is speaking from experience as one living in "that world", and as such, she has every right to make her observations and insights.
I agree 100% with Céline Dion. Name me only one artist of her fame and talent who is clean, who has no scandal attached to her, who is is not in drugs or anything , who has a real family loving life with husband and kids. I'm talking to everyone especialy you american people who think you are the best in tne world, who think afer USA nothing exist, open your eyes a little and just be honest with yourself a moment and tell me what Célkine Dion said that is not true. Be honest with yourself for once !!
"I agree 100% with Céline Dion. Name me only one artist of her fame and talent who is clean, who has no scandal attached to her, who is is not in drugs or anything , who has a real family loving life with husband and kids."
Gloria Estefan. Huge career. No scandals, married to the same man for 33 years, loving wife and mother. Awesome in every way. Celine is 100% right to say what she said.
Let's be honest, who was really that shocked to hear that Whitney died? She sinned against her talent and the price of that sin was death. Celine was 100% right on with her statement. People need to hear the truth about the danger abusing drugs.
Add Demi Moore to that list, and Heath Ledger .... it goes on and on. Hurray to Celine for speaking out. Hollywood doesn't want any one to know their dirty little secrets for coping with the anxiety of being well known, however, some flaunt it on reality shows such as Rehab. It's disgusting.
WHITNEY WAS ONE OF A KIND WAY BACK WHEN..........SHE HAD IT ALL AND LOST IT ALL BECAUSE OF BAD INFLUENCE...(BOBBY BROWN)....BAD CHOICES WHICH I GUESS SHE JUST COULDN'T GET OUT OF...SO SAD TO FINISH THIS WAY.....R.I.P. WHITNEY.....MY HEART GOES OUT OT HER DAUGHTER AND FAMILY.....ALSO......CELINE'S REMARKS....... SHE EXPRESSED HERSELF PROBABLY AND SPEAKING WITH A BROKEN HEART WHICH I WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT ALL THESE ARTISTS WHO ARE DYING TO YOUNG WITH SO MUCH TALENT BUT MAKING WRONG CHOICES....PLEASE.... CELINE JUST EXPRESSED THE TRUTH OF HOW DANGEROUS THE MUSIC AND /OR MOVIE INDUSTRY CAN BE DANGEROUS IF YOU DON'T KEEP YOUR HEAD TOGETHER AND STAY AWAY FROM BAD INFLUENCE......AGAIN YOU WILL BE MISSED "WHITNEY"
Whoever saw this coming a long time ago raise your hands....*waving madly*
There should be a million people doing the wave.
I can't stand Celine but what she said is 100% true.
First of all I am shocked at people who got shocked by Houston death, what so shocking about it, every drug addict has to die one day for abusing drugs. Second, Dion is absolutely right, by ignoring fact cannot change fact.
Drug addiction can take over dreams for celebrities and non-celebrities allke. Celine Dion was only saying what many people are thinking, even if they are waiting for the toxicology report. And the ones who are flapping their gums are being much nastier than Celion Dion was. I'm sure you all have been reading the blogs.
Celine spoke the truth...but these days....the truth only earns you criticism. She wasn't judging Whitney or being inappropriate in any way...she was speaking the truth. It is utterly pitiful that the world has lost another human being (fame and stardom aside) to drug addiction...and "the empty lifestyle of celebrity". I remember Whitney Houston when she first hit the scene...she was an inspiration, a well spoken, intelligent thinking girl who was close to her mother, close to her family. Anyone would have thought that she, of all people, had the necessary tools to survive that business. So...rock on Celine Dion for being a beacon of brave honesty in an industry that just wants to sugar coat everything. They wail and gnash their teeth when YET ANOTHER of their own dies like this, yet it is this type of denial and obtuseness that allows people like Whitney Houston to die in this manner while surrounded by "people".
I didn't see GMA, but from what the article states, I can't see how anything Celine said is controversial. Did Whitney use drugs? Did she die from drug abuse? Does that leave her daughter without a mother?
The problem isn't what Celine said, the problem is when she said it. To say the things Celine said *before* Whitney has been buried is insensitive and inconsiderate, at best.
And when would be the right time? Next week, when the world has moved on and no one is listening? Did anyone get backlash for making the same comments about Amy Winehouse before her body was cold? I think not.
Sadly, it is true. Furthered by the confirmed use of drugs. IF you assume, she was not on drugs that night, the continued use of illicet drugs weakens the cardiac system. That in itself, could be the cause. WE need to wait for the pathology report.
I agree with Celine 100%. It's about time for other artists to take a stand on drugs abuse and be upfront about it. We keep seeing talented singers die, but no other artists have any gut to say anything because they were afraid that people might be offended. There is *NOTHING* offensive about what Celine said. For those who think what she said is offensive, you're actually encourages artists to continue to use drugs. It's time to stand up and raise awareness about this.
I am a HUGE Whitney Houston fan and a HUGE Celine Dion fan. I think Celine hit it right on the head and only said what everyone in Hollywood is thinking today. No matter what Whitney actually died of Saturday, DRUGS were involved either directly or indirectly in ending her life.
Celine is brave. There are always "people" who will try to destroy good people like Celine in order to keep the "business" flowing. They will try to make her look "weird", "loner" or whatever. It's so obvious what happened here. I hope Whitney has God's love.
Celine wasn't passing judgement, she was doing what intelligent people do... they learn from observing the consequences of actions. If you can't learn from observation, you learn from experience. Celine chooses to learn from observation. Whitney (and others) chose to learn from experience. Which has more dire consequences? You decide.
Thank you! That was an INTELLIGENT comment at best! You can't get criticized for speaking the truth sensibly!
The truth they say is a bitter pill to swallow. Celine is 100% right, it doesn't make it less tragic though and she correctly expresses her sadness.
Celine nailed it 100%,, and I thought so compassionatly,, Whitney from almost the moment she reached the top starting falling apart, mostly with the HELP of her close friends at the time, especially Bobby Brown. Poor choices,, very sad she had the greatest voice.
Despite Whitney being a fabulous singer, Celine only said what the world already knew. When there is darkness in a celebrity's or anyone's life, it always comes to light after death.
I love/loved Whitney. I also very much love Celine Dion, wanted it sounded like to me; was Dion's frustration of how "that business" can suck you up and drain you dry. Although her commons may have sounded critical of Whitney, it is my opinion that she is hurt and angry to loose another brilliant talent yet again. There are many realities in Dion's commons. She may could have said it later, but say it later or say it now; it is all the same. Lighten up on Dion, for all of those who know her public persona, knows that she isn't a negative person and she glows with every breathe, song note or smile. My prays go out to the Houston family and Bobby Brown. He too does not deserve to be blamed totally for other people's perception of what may have gone on within their marriage. Unless they were flies on the wall... nobody knows.
At the end she looked terrible, not too long ago a Concert she had in Germany, her voice was so bad , people were asking for their money back. Funny, her so called 'friends' are crying now that she is dead, but when she was hooked in cocaine, alcohol etc people made fun of her. RIP . Whitney.
I agree with Celine 100%. I have been in recovery from addiction for 21 years and what brought me back were my daughters and knowing that they came first. Seems in the privileged world of celebrities that the responsibilities of every day life get lost and I really think Whitney had bad influences around her. How she lived her life and how she died is really none of my business but I remember that innocent, naive girl who burst into the spotlight ~ someone or something forever changed her. My heart goes out to her daughter and family – they are left with the wreckage.
Crack is Whack!!!
it happens every day. wake up. your famous? that does not make it okay to ignore the facts this is not the first nor will it be the last person that is a public figure to die this way. the truth hurts. we need more of the truth. there are also much more important things going on in the world.
Celine said nothing untrue or unkind. Houston's problems were well known by most if not all in the business. Despite how much theyt try to cover it up and put a good face on the issues Houston had, they fact was it was still there and denyng it existed to nolt bring up an uncomfortable topic does noone any good, least of all Houston – who if someone may have brought up the topic and cared enough to do something REAL might still be here like many others rather than just getting them well enough to do "one more show" and make one more buck for someone.
Life is sometimes uncomfortable but that's all you've got, ytou have to face issues not hide from them or they will (as in this case and many others like it) usually end very badly.
I love Whitney! I love Celine! Celine is just speaking the truth. Whitney has had a drug abuse problem. It may not be the casue of her death; I sincerely hope.
Amen!! Celine Dion only told the truth. I wish someone would wake the hell up and start really cracking down on these celebrities who abuses drugs only so they can save their lives. How many lives will we lose before we start holding these people accountable and I not only mean the artists but these doctors that keep giving these drugs out like candy.
Just think if Whitney Houston (I am a big fan) doesn't do drugs; she would have dominated the 90's. She started the 90's with Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale and her music was on top of the charts and that would have just been the beginning. She would have been the female version of Michael Jackson but only bigger. She was beautiful, talented, and just had that charisma to be successful. Her voice was one of a kind, my word to describe her is flawless.
It is a shame we will never know how big she would have been since she was already awesome even with the drug use.
Dearesst CNN editor,
There is only one 'e' in judgment. Please add '[sic]' after the incidence of 'judgement' in the Twitter quote to indicate that it is misspelled vy the tweeter, lest our budding young journalists reading this story think that this sort of misspelling should go unnoticed in a quote.
I think Celine was right. What she said was these drugs/bad people/bad influences took away her DREAM not her life. Who knows what happened. I have missed Whitney for a long time. Seeing her with Bobby mad me sick...they were so bad for each other. I'm not saying they were bad people...just bad for each other. She was an angel and now The Lord has her. We love you Whitney! You'll be missed.
I totally agree with Celine!!! Celine said nothing disrespectful. Drugs indeed did take Whitney's dreams, her life, her passion.... Whitney was America's sweetheart but she was overwhelmed with the influences and temptations of celebrity.. Out of all the recent celebrities to have passed away from drug abuse, my heart mourns Whitney the most.... On another note, the problem of drug abuse and its almost "acceptance" in Hollywood needs to be addressed, we can't continue to "glaze" over this when tragedies such as this happen...
Yeah, OK. let's all wait for the report. But we all know there is a lot of drug mileage on that body.
she didn't say anything new every one has said it or everyone is thinking about it......we have to show our children, that she did wrong by getting into drugs that she was amazing but the drugs destroyed a beautiful amazing women and career.....keep playing it down when someone dies and our next generation will see it as no big deal.
Another superstar bites the dust while trying to make a comeback. Whitney, your star was brighter than most, but you made the same mistake as Icarus. You got too high, flew too close to the sun, and you got burned.
Celine is just telling the truth! Whitney had a big problem and it was Bobbie Brown and drugs.
God is with Whitney now she isnt in any pain anymore. I agree with Celion and Teresa Bobby Brown was the problem Whitney we all Love You one of the greatest Voices ever God Be With You and Your Family
Not a Celine fan, but, she is100% on the money with everything she said. Continuous substance abuse will come back and bite you! The body is not made to tolerate such abuse!!!
Whitney Houston is wack.
Celine was compassionate and spoke the truth. We all know Whitney lost her voice 10 plus years ago to the hard partying, drug, and alcohol world that sucks the life out of so many. Celine only spoke the truth and those that are trying to convice the world that Whitney was just fine are in denial. That said it is still a tragedy and very very sad for her family and her fans. It didn't have to happen.
As a fan we are all aware of the sad tragedy that Whitney chose drugs and it brought her to her ruin, nevertheless, her talent was UNDENIABLY off the hook...and what she contributed to those of us in this life time, is unforgettable...
Celine is right on. We don't have to wait to hear what killed her. Just look back at her life.
Celine is absolutely 100% correct. These performers make millions of dollars but feel that they cant get through life without drugs and alcohol. Whitney admitted long ago that she's been in rehab for substance abuse. Celine is the classiest singer on the planet
She should remake "I Will Always Love You" to show the world how it's really done!!!!!
You're right about that. Celine's vocal skills are miles ahead of Whitney, but Whitney did have great tone and soul. Celine's extremely technical and not everyone can appreciate that – can come across a wee bit mechanical.
Shouldn't she be askinig Dolly Parton instead considering it was HER song to begin with!
let's see if her daughter will become a druggie too! statistics show children growing up observing a parent use drugs or is abusive to their spouse will exhibit the same qualities. bobbi – abuser...whitney...druggie = daughter...in need of an intervention by family members now! if not, she'll most likely hold on to a lot of resentment and guilt. that will lead her on the wrong path soon.
Unfortunately i'm afraid so, it's pretty hard to find a clean celebrity in US anymore. I guess someone somewhere should start to shake people up and have them to clean up their act.
Let's try putting it another way. The choices you make in your life are everything. Sometimes they mean the difference between life or death.
Celine Dion is alive. Whitney Houston is dead.
There is a time and place for everything and just a reminder if all truth should be known there will be no peace on earth .
CELINE IS A FIRST CLASS PIG
I agree with Celine.
OH STOP IT PEOPLE! Whitney died doing what she loved doing, and that was DRUGS! Celine said nothing wrong, on the contrary she was very nice and honest about it.
Thank You , Baby
True, no need to sugar coat it. It is very sad, but this happens to non-famous people all of the time and we don't sit around giving them a pat on the back and idolizing them for a job well done. I'm not shocked or surprised that this happened, just as I would not have been shocked or surprised if this had happened to one of my brothers when he was into drugs.
Yes, Whitney had a wonderful gift, but she lost it because of her addiction. I do have compassion, but she made bad choices and in the end, it cost her her life.
Thanks for telling us you "do have compassion", you never know it from your post. To have to say those words mean you KNOW it's not obvious.
I am in agreement with Celine. The only real power we have, is our influences on others. And it's up to us to make those influences.....positive. I'm a 52 yr old Black Male. Most of the people in my past, perished long ago, primarily due to Drugs and Alcohol. Matter of fact: What most people don;t understand is, when viewing any episode of Soul Train, you are viewing memories of people. Well over 50-60% of those young dancers departed long ago.
And as for Celine.........okay, you are perfect and don't do drugs, good for you but don't you think it's a bit too early to come bad mouth someone who just died. Some of these celebrities will use any means to draw attention to themselves........geez
I can't stand Celine Dion in general (vocal histrionics with no real style; weeping about problems conceiving when she's married to an old man and she herself is now getting older; dramatic about her husband's health problems - HE'S AN OLD MAN!!!!)
BUT . . .
She's absolutely right here. She's just saying it as it is, and I don't condemn her for that.
It's good that you raised all those points about Celine. Knowing where you stand on Celine's fecundity is pretty relevant to Whitney Houston, in just SO many ways.
Couldn't agree more! I've never had any use for Celine Dion, for many of the reasons you list so accurately. However, she is spot on with her comments about Whitney's decline. She did manage to respectfully address the elephant in the room that everyone is so politely trying to dance around. I still can't stand Dion's voice, but she just went up a couple points in my estimation for being honest about a tragic situation.
At least one celebrity is coming out and telling at least part of he truth. The truth is that the whole concept of celebrity status and stardom was rigged from the beginning–going all the way back to the 1920's and 30' in Hollywood. When we people get smart and get the stars out of their eyes and come down to reality. Singing a song, throwing a ball through a hoop, repeating some line in front of a camera don't really mena a d**n thing and the people who do these things need to be placed much closer to earth in our minds than hung up near the stars.
Oh Whitney – you are the best ! Celine is no match for you
Wow. Congratulations for missing the point ENTIRELY.
blah blah blah!!! celine dion is telling the truth!!! she deserves credit for standing up for her beliefs!!! i stand by her 1000%! ype! 1000%. people try so hard to sideline the truth in order to not confront what's in front of them. that's call REALITY! that's the reason why many children are facing tough times these days, especially during a recession that our government said has ended. if we, as adults, do not confront these issues – like drugs, we are letting our future generations down. cnn needs to hold an open forum on drugs and alcohol. there's professionals – lawyers, surgeons, models, actors – who readily use crack to function on a daily basis. as long as we are in denial, our children will suffer the consequences of our stupidity. it is time we face the truth! hollywood has long embellish the use of drugs, especially pot, on television and movies. they never show the CONSEQUENCES. even our past presidents have admitted to using drugs. so the message from our leaders – it's ok to use drugs because you will still succeed. it's just awful! it's time to confront reality. aka REALITY CHECK
Absolutely correct!! Thank you for pointing that out – way too much "harmless" drug abuse in popular culture! Say what you will about young people needing to be smarter, the unfortunate truth is they are very susceptible to pop culture influences and will especially indulge in "hip" things that don't appear dangerous, as marijuana is usually portrayed. Personally, I have two older brothers that destroyed their potential, and thus their lives, as young adults because smoking marijuana was the "in" thing - now they are middle aged and leading miserable, dead-ended lives. Pop culture needs to wake up and treat drug abuse as the danger it is, or talents like Whitney Houston will continue to die too young.
I'm still so sad over her death, but how could anyone get to her? When you have money and body guards and people that will tell you anything you want to hear, how could anyone get close enough to help? Same with Micheal. He could afford doctors to give him what he wanted and if they didn't, then he got someone else. We have lost some true talents.
It is so sad that society as a whole denies the power of drugs and alcohol in destroying lives. I agree with Celine. We cannot ignore the number of young stars having a debut with illegal use. We love the music but we promote the lifestyle that destroys the artists.
truth is not always easy how about the millions of no name people that are dying how came they are not getting any attention. Just lost my step dauther due to drugs anybody hear. ye right.
Sorry to hear this Eddie, I've dealt with this too. Its a helpless situation. The only advice I have is stop asking yourself what you could have done. It will only persecute you and the simple answer is nothing. I they want it bad enough they'll find a way around anything you might have done.
I'm sorry for your loss, Eddie. And I agree with you. There are so many that have similar problems that don't get the help or attention needed for their addictions. Addiction is something I am have seen and been a victim of some else's addiction. However, I am lucky to say that I don't suffer from addiction. I chose to be cautious not to fall into it as my dad was an alcoholic. But it isn't as easy for many. I don't understand how a substance can take you over like that. And I won't ever really know. I pray for those that have addictions, that they can find the help and support they need to acknowledge and understand how to deal with it. Addiction breaks so many hearts. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
Celine Dion is right. Whitney Houston was nothing more than a crack H0. She is surely in hell now smoking crack with Michael "The King of Pedophilia" Jackson.
Right on, davie!
IT'S REAL EASY TO SAY THE CRAP THAT YOU JUST SAID! THE ONLY PERSON THAT'S GOING TO BE SWEATING IN HELL IS YOU, FOOL!!! YOU NEED JESUS!
To those who replied to the comment.....there is no god and there is no hell, Michael Jackson was living in hell with his drug addiction as well as Whitney Huston, and Amy Winehouse, its clear alcohol/drug addiction is living in hell. Period.
you are sick. Michael Jackson was acquitted of every last charge. Besides, where you even there when the alleged acts took place? You sound like your stupid and miserable. ppl think they can say anything on the internet just because they are anonymous.
Close but not quite. The "King of Pedophilia" is the Pope.
Actually he settled out of court.
you go to hell
She speaks truth but it needs to be said before the person expires. Of course, most celebrities are too into themselves to listen to anybody. Not even another celebrity so it might be in vain.
I agree with Celine 100%.
If you are all upset with Dion then why did you continue to watch the interview.? Robin Roberts is not that good an interviewer and I believe that if you ask someone for there opinion be ready for the answer. If not, don't ask the question or don't ask for their opinion. It is scary out there. Deal with it and stay out of trouble.
Nothing Celine said was innapropriate. Yes, the autopsy report has yet to be released, but stating that Whitney's life was run off the rails by drugs, bad people, and bad influence isn't quick to judge speculation. It's widely known and it's accurate. She was just stating the obvious. At no point did I hear Celine claim to know exactly how she died. To speculate that her lifestyle was a factor is obvious and perfectly reasonable. We're all thinking it. I've seen tons of people on Facebook making these same comments. Plus, Celine didnt' say anything disparaging towards Whitney. It's not like she was painting her to be some loser drug addict who deserved what she got. She was simply saying that her life took an unfortunate turn. I heard nothing but kind words for Whitney.
Cennay, Zidek 123, and MarkWGaither are the ones who should feel embarassed and should be apologizing.
A fan of Whitney here; however, I agree with Celine. It's sad and unfortunate. When will people learn? If we say these people are our idols and they influence us to do great things, become a singer, reach for our goals, etc. Then why can't, when something like this happens, we get influenced to NOT fall into drugs and alcohol? It should work both ways...
Drug and alcohol abuse can still kill you even if you get clean and stay clean for years. It causes a lot of damage to your organs that can cause an early death. I hope that she had not fallen back into substance abuse.
And what did you do to help her, Miss I-married-my-grandfather-for-a record-deal? Absolutely nothing. But now, you talk. I cannot stand this self-serving, French Canadian braggart. And her voice is like a cat on a tin roof.
You sound mad.
Instead of criticizing Celine, where were her so called "friends" who tell the world how much they loved her and that they were so close........really??? Actions speak louder then words.
DON'T BE MAD, GET GLAD!!
The truth hurts, doesn't it !
By the same token, todears, what did YOU do to help Whitney Houston? Nothing? If so, then you are a hypocrite for criticizing Celine Dion. Just because two people happen to be singers does not mean one can control the other. Your bizarre, irrational and poorly reasoned spewing against Ms. Dion is neither here nor there. Just say no to drugs!
Amen, toadears. She makes me want to vomit.
Maybe Celine should go on drugs...an actual personality might appear. Dried out old hack.
Toadears Celine might be a Canadian French Braggart like you said, but what she is trying to tell you're US made dumb brain is if you don't do nothing to stop this drug thing in the show business, USA won't have anymore Celebrities to show the world anymore. They'll all be dead within the next 5 years.
Actually, it is widely publicized that Celine reached out to Whitney on a few occasions, but unfortunately she was too close to rock bottom for it to matter. There is nothing anyone could have done for Whitney. She was a fragile angel who was overcome by the stresses and pressures of her career. She will be profoundly missed.
Oh, and Celine Dion released her first album in 1981. She and Rene didn't marry until December of 1994. By that point she already had a few platinum records and two US top-ten singles to her name. She did not marry for a record contract.
She sounds like a buzzkill. That's why she's not part of show business, no one invited her to the party.
To all Whitney's fan, my condolences. She was a great singer but also an addict. Celine is a great singer but she is not an addict.
If you're right, then more power to her. But the world needs buzzkills more than wasted lives.
Celine made it clear that in order to KEEP clean she must keep herself away from areas of temptation that could lure her into that powerful downhill spiral. I applaud her strong character for that. I doubt it is because she is "not invited" to parties.
She's not part of the show business not because she was not invited but because she's afraid of druggies, like you maybe?
And your just a plain and simple idiot!!
I agree with the statements already made here...and for those criticising Celine I say, this is not unexpected. We didn't need to wait for autopsy results to know that drugs and alcohol would be involved. All you had to do was be watching the last few times she was out in public – it was obvious to everyone that her talent had been wasted. The voice was pretty much gone (btw, bulimia to stay thin will shred your vocal chords), the breath control that had once been so stupendous was gone, she had one foot in the grave for a long time. It is also ironic and tragic that her mother, who sang backup for Elvis in the Sweet Inspirations, was apparently not able to use the experience of watching him disentigrate to convince her daughter to stay away from drugs.
Yes, because we know how much control a mother has over their adult, grown children. No disrepect, but Whitney did this to herself, period but it doesn't change the fact that this was a tragic, tragic ending for a beloved voice.
NOT ONLY COULD SHE SING, SHE WAS GREAT IN THE SACK.
Celine is simply saying what is true!
celine dion should have minded her own business. we don't know what's true. we don't know what whitney died from. that's what the autopsy will determine and the results aren't in yet. celine should worry about her relationship with that old man she is with and his influence on what she has done.
IT WAS PHIL SPECTORS FAULT
Wow! Her fans are in such denial. Celine could have added dozens others to her list, and still only scratched the surface.
Good for you, Celine, for addressing the 800 pound elephant everyone else is ignoring.
I agree 100%. We're losing excellent talent due to the soaring drug problem in Hollywood. The doctors giving the drugs to them are yet another problem!
Honest Abe....I agree, sometimes the truth hurts, but drugs have been a factor in many many celebrity deaths over many many years.
Your momma's an 800lb elephant
WHAT'S SO CONTROVERSIAL ABOUT WHAT CELINE SAID?!?!? I'M TIRED OF PEOPLE ALWAYS IN DENIAL, ALWAYS OFFENDED, WHEN SOMEONE COMES OUT AND TELLS IT LIKE IT IS! IT'S HEARTBREAKING ABOUT WHITNEY. BUT, WHY JUST SHUT UP AND NOT TELL IT LIKE IT IS? TO ME, THAT'S A REAL FRIEND WHEN YOU CAN COME OUT AND NOT HAVE TO HIDE OR GET IN TROUBLE BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU SAID, WHICH WAS THE TRUTH. WHITNEY WAS HOOKED ON DRUGS AND COULDN'T GET OFF OF THEM (THANK YOU BOBBY BROWN?!?!?). SOME PEOPLE HAVE A LOT OF STRENGTH AND CAN TAKE THEMSELVES OUT OF SITUATIONS LIKE DRUG ABUSE ONCE THEY HIT BOTTOM. BUT SOME, LIKE WHITNEY, JUST COULDN'T. SHE WAS NOT A BAD PERSON, JUST LOST AND IN NEED OF HELP, WHICH SHE OBVIOUSLY TOOK, AT TIMES, BUT NOT A 100%. RIGHT ON CELINE! SO SORRY WHITNEY–YOU WILL BE MISSED.
Celine Dion is 100% CORRECT. Have a look at how her drug problem started, with BOBBI BROWN. He's the loser that got her into it and kept her into it. There is blood on that boy's hands.
Celine Dion will be recognized as the Greatest Female Entertainer of ALL Time. Look at what she has done in Las Vegas and her world tours, and she goes on and on entertaining millions. She has an incredible voice. Thank you Celine for telling it the way it is. 99% agree with you. RIP Whitney, your suffering is over.
Honest Abe, I agree with you completely. Whitney became a boozing dopehead, damaging her singing and died well before her time as a result. Hopefully her fans (especially those foolish enough to be in denial) and the general public will take her lesson to heart. If that happens, she did not die in vain. I am glad there are entertainers like Celine Dion who set a good example and tell it like it is.
Absolutely,ALL these fans are in denial, Celine hit it right on and I commend her courage, she and no one question the TALENT, INTELLIGENCE, THE LOVE FOR THE ARTS, and ENTERTAINMENT . ALL she mentioned were on DRUGS...and I hate to say, there WILL be many more...Just follow the news and those acting the way they do and in trouble with the LAW....WILL BE NEXT......Then WHAT DENIAL?????????
Completely agree. When I heard the news on Saturday I hate to say it but wasn't shocked. She had every opportunity to get clean and didn't, not even her daughter was a good enough reason for her. I raised 4 children who lost their mother because of her addictions and as blessed as I have been to have them in my life I am angry with their biologcal mother for not loving them enough to be better, it should have been her. Its incredibly sad but shame on her for not making Bobbi Christina more important. Celine said what a lot of us are thinkng. Good for her. I don't see arrogance just the cold hard truth. I am aware that I have written this with the assumption that drugs killed her. If it wasn't drugs THAT would shock me.
No one is ignoring the problem Whitney had with drugs, but some of us are grieving and would like to bury her before exploring "what could have been" had she not taken drugs.
Is everyone else in denial? She was respectful but TRUTHFUL. Everyone knows Whitney was in and out of rehab and never recovered from addiction. There is a very good chance she died from and overdose and even if she didn't, drugs did take over her life, ruined her health, killed her career. Celine only spoke honestly. Good for her. I'm a huge Whitney fan and have missed her for years but she was never going to make a comeback. Now she can rest in peace.
I agree. It's sad, but true.
I might listen to a word Celine said if not for the fact THAT SHE SUCKS.
And she's fugly.
OH CELINE YOU ARE SO RIGHT I AGREE 100% I M SICK OF LL THESE CELEBRITIES AND THERE DRUG USE SHE WAS SELFISH AS A MOTHER TO PUT HER DRUG USE BEFORE HER DAUGHTER. OH HOW MY HEART BREAKS FOR THAT CHILD TO THINK AT 18 TO NOT HAVE YOUR MOTHER BECAUSE SHE CHOSE DRUGS OVER YOU. IT IS WHAT IT IS CELINE SAID NOTHING WE LL THINKING BUT DO NOT HAVE THE GUTS TO SAY. NO SHE IS NOT GOING TO HEAVEN AS SO MANY THINK NO SHE IS NOT AN ANGEL IN HEAVEN SHE DID DRUGS AND IF FOR NAY REASON THE RESULTS COME BACK THAT SHE OD THEN SHE COMMITTED SUICIDE LAST TIME I CHECKED BOTH THOSE WE SINS. TIME TO FACE THE TRUTH SHE HAD A GREAT VOICE A GREAT GIFT AND SHE THREW IT ALL AWAY FOR DRUGS. SO CELINE I APPLAUD YOU AND I HOPE YOU DO NOT GO ON ANY SHOW AND APOLOGIZE FOR ACTUALLY BEING THE MOST HONEST PERSON OUT THERE.
Right on to Abe. More people died last year from prescription drugs – Big Pharma – than by automobile accidents and probably drugs and alcohol were the main culprits. Americans use twice as many psychotropic drugs as any other nation of our our size. We are living the "Brave New World"
Bravo to Celine. She was not judging she was telling it like it is, and if that ruffles some peoples' feathers - too bad. Drugs killed Whitney. Period. Tragic. But a spade is a spade regardless of what you want to call it.
That 800lb elephant you speak of does that include all the people in the so called inner circle around these celebrities? The people who are in close contact with these stars every day and neglect to say or do anything about a possible drug or alcohol problem. They will keep quiet just as long as the pay cheques keep coming in. They will do whatever they are told. It's all so pathetic! Celine was right on the money with her remarks, open your eyes people!
Ya , Celine may have been out line .But the truth has to be told .I loved her music BUTTTTT what has Whitney done in the last 15 years of her life but party , drink and take drugs and look like a damn fool in pubic . Who are the fools WE are as a society letting people do this do them selves and turn the other way . Who in Gods green earth takes pills and drink alcohol without deadly results in the end . Look at everyone who has died from it TONS "` ,When we will in a society put down the drugs , alcohol and food and stop killing ourselves on a daily basis in this country . I BET NEVER !!!
800 pound elephant? I love it when posters mangle their metaphors. Seriously dude, do you really think an elephant weighs 800 pounds? The expression is "the 800 pound gorilla in the room".
Celine completly told the truth. It is so sad that such a wonderful talent is gone because Whitney was a beauty and had a wonderful voice, but like so many other talents – she was on drugs, drinking, partying, etc. too much going on with her. Such a sad ending.
Yes, Whitney had a beautiful voice and I am so sorry for her family and her daughter. We need to stop worshiping people who use drugs like they are a person to look up to. There are people in the entertainment business who never use drugs and are successful. Does drug use and the entertainment industry go hand in hand? The entertainment business needs to take some serious steps to stop this kind of behavior to continue to ruin their reputation. There is a huge huge problem of drug use in our country and to worship this kind of lifestyle or habit is wrong. Drugs ruin people's lives, kill people, and hurt many many people. Get a grip society stop the drug use it is ruining our society. Thanks Celine for your comments. It was the truth. C
I am in 100% agreement. She was saying what anyone, with any sense of reality, would think and say. How many people in Hollywood have to die for people to understand this tragic epidemic. Denial will help no one.
Celine was free to make her observaton. It is NOT insensitve. Odd are WH had medications in her system which contributed to her demise....who is kidding who.. It also could have been the effect of years of abuse.
The Thursday night pics of her..are not kind to her. She looked drunk or messed up.
Sad for her and her family no matter what. But a waste of part of a life..
celine dion should shut her pie hold. if she must comment, she should comment about her life. maybe she could comment on her relationship with her husband. wasn't he married when they met? wasn't she little more than a child when they met? now, that's something we KNOW and can discuss to get the actual details. until the toxicology reports come back, we (including celine dion) don't know what whitney houston died from.
I am very glad that Celine pointed out the danger of drugs. I applaud her for coming out with the truth about getting in hanging outs and wild parties where peer pressures and of over drinking to the point of no sense for good judgement and get into trouble unintentionally. BE CAREFUL!!!!!
Celine you have no right to discuss what you don't know. You are so self absorbed, it sickens me. Whitney's voice by far blew yours away. Trust me, you are no angel!!!!
I am confused. What is wrong with Celine stating what is common knowledge? while we don't yet know if drugs were directly involved in Whitney's, death there is absolutely no doubt that drugs destroyed her career, threatened her life and wreaked havoc on her amazing voice. Given who the music and show business scene has lost to drugs, Celine Dion was speaking as a grieving friend and it was entirely appropriate for her to voice her fears and sense of despair. The sad thing is we know Celine's cautionary words will not break the grip drugs have on too many people. Nor will they deter many newcomers from taking that first offer just to appear "cool",etc.
The Celine critics need to take a step back and see her interview for what it was-grief at the loss of a friend and fear that she will lose more of them.
I AGREE WITH CELINE, WE ALL HAVE CHOICES TO MAKE AN WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES AND WHITNEY DEFINITIVELY MADE HER SHARE. WHILE EVERYONE WANTS TO PLAY SELF RIGHTEOUS, JUST REMEMBER HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE IS WHAT THE WORLD WILL REMEMBER YOU BY. HER MUSIC WAS MORE THAN BEAUTIFUL, BUT HER CHOICES WERE LESS THAN RESPONSIBLE. I HAVE 5 CHILDREN AND THEY WILL ALWAYS BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY DRUG, MAN OR AMOUNT OF MONEY. WE MAY NOT LIKE THE TRUTH, BUT NEVER THE LESS IT IS WHAT IT IS. IF YOU WANT TO HEAR MORE LIES THAN THE TRUTH, JUST WAITS UNTIL THE PERSONS DIES. JUST REMEMBER GOD KNOWS.
Abe is correct. Whitney was so talented then she let the thug world into her life and she became a "druggie." Very very sad
I thought Celine was thoughtful, forthright, and raised some real concerns about stardom and becoming a celebrity.
IF PHIL SPECTOR WAS NOT IN JAIL, HOUSTON WOULD STILL BE HERE
Why pretend? Even if drugs didn't kill Whitney, she has been involved with drugs for decades. She could have died another time. I think Dion's comments ARE appropriate. Maybe they will be heard by other stars. She is right, the stars who keep their lives family-oriented and private and don't party do well in the business. In my hometown in So. Oregon are a number of Hollywood celebs who are raising their kids away from SoCa.
I agree wholeheartedly with the comments made by Celine and I grew up adoring Whitney Houston and her music, idolized her like everyone of my generation did. There has been no secret that her career has careened out of control by virtue of the decisions she has made. She admitted this in numerous interviews as well. If you could ask her today whether she'd rather have lived a drug-free life or that which overtook her for the last number of years, I'd bet she'd chose the former. I will continue to listen to Celine Dion and just like all of us, we are afforded freedom of an opinion by those who fought and continue to fight for it. Celine Dion did not say anything that is untrue or that hasnt been written in the press time and time again, sadly.
I agree, there is a huge pink elephant in the room that everyone is trying to ignore. Celine only stopped at the most recent celebrities whose lives ended abruptly because of drugs. She only verbalized what the rest of us have already been thinking. And people want to criticize HER? Celine never had a reputation of being falling – down under the influence of drugs or alcohol, she's never been booed off stage because she couldn't carry a note if she had had a fork lift to help her (Whitney Houston has...) and she hasn't been in and out rehab three or four times.
Has the people seen the photo's of Whitney's personal bathroom. My God, what a horrible atmosphere to bring up a child, which by the way, has photo's floating around of her snorting cocaine (or crack?).
Whitney had the most beautiful voice, she could hit notes like no other singer, but let's face facts: When the toxicology reports come back they will probably make Michael Jackson's use of Propofol look like a trip to fridge for a glass of milk.
Sorry Whitney, RIP.
Don't hate on Celine because she called it as she saw it and makes complete sense. Not only is she talented, she is smart. There is a dark horse lingering in this room denying the plain and simple fact that drugs do destroy lives. Drugs, bad decisions and hanging out with the wrong people. Denial is the first indication of addiction. Get informed. Whitney Houston, superstar, did drugs (perhaps not recently) and made bad decisions hanging out with the wrong sorts. As for the cause of her death, I hold judgement until the coroner's report is completed and announced.
Even if the toxicology report comes back negative, it proves nothing. A 48 year old woman does not typically just up and die. Years of drug abuse takes it toll and nobody can deny that.
Whitney had a desease and some people can not be healed of their deseases and some can. It is like two people having the same cancer and the treatment may work for one but not the other. I think it has a lot to do with your body and mind. and also I think Whitney had bipolar disorder and unfortunitly treatment does not work for most of those people. Dion was only looking at her side of the story, not that she was wrong but you really have to factor in a lot of other things also.. some people have addictive genes and some people don't. People don't realize how powerful the genes are. Personally I think Whitney was a mentally ill person because anybody in their right mine would never have thrown all that away,.No one knows what their genes consist of it could have come from ten generations ago. Lets just pray for Whitney. Dion should pray that none of her children got a bad gene.
You are totally right about that Abe. I don't even see my post. I think it was deleted because of my honesty.
People always love to make up excuses.
We always have a choice. If they make the wrong choice, it's still their choice and they are the only ones to be blamed for it.
What Celine Deon said was inappropriate at this time. That kind of discussion should be said after the family and friends have time to mourn her loss. She was a gift from heaven and she suffered the worst kind of trials. Shame on anyone who spreads gossip at this time. Her voice was what you expect to hear from a angel. The feeling she spread when she sang was from the very soul and pure. You felt what she gave to every note! Bless her now and forever. Remember she was a mother when you comment on here and what human beings should do out of respect for those who are still here.
I say good for Celine. She's just saying what everybody else was thinking. Whitney was a great artist with an incredible voice but lost it all to drugs and alcohol. What a waste. Bobby Brown is SUCH A LOSER!! She'd still be here if she hadn't met him.
Good for you Celine! Glad someone is being truthful.
Rebar, the phrase that is appropriate in this case is "800 pound elephant in the room." An 800-pound gorilla usually refers to someone or something so large and powerful that it lives by its own set of rules or to describe a dominant player. "The elephant in the room" refers to an obvious truth that no one is addressing" which is very appropriate in this discussion. Good for Celine for honestly addressing the facts.
I don't think that Celine Dion meant to ruffle any feathers with these comments, BUT unfortunately even if we don't want to hear it in these moments, it's the truth. May she rest in peace and her family and friends find comfort.
They have all the money to get addiction treatment instead Hoolywood people chose to be high and 'happy' , not a shock this singer died, it was expected sooner than later . Lets stop idiolizing a drug adicted as Whitney Houston.
Maybe you lied to your fans but at the end you couldn't escaped death, drugs will get more sooner than later.
Good for you Celine!
ICan not stand CNN idolizing Whitney Houston, all day yesterday and today and who know how much longer. Come on CNN, this woman was a drug addict, a drunk, the only good thing going on for this singer was her beautiful voice but she did not take care of that. Now that she is dead lets stop glamorizing a drug addict celebrity. I stoped watching CNN for now.
Thank you, Honest Abe, for not criticizing Dion for the way overdue comments she made about drug abuse that has run rampant around those in Hollywood. I don't interpret what Dion said to mean that she was a "bad" mother, but that without drugs she would have undoubtedly been a more "present" mother. Dion was simply saying what others are too cowardly to say about celebrities, as if they're to be held on a pedestal, and they can do no wrong. Thank you to you, Celine, for saying what others dare not say but what definitely needs to be said.
I agree with Celine is right. SOOOOO RIGHT>
I am fine with what Celine and Honest Abe say. Ignoring the obvious didn't help Whitney in life and won't help anyone else if ignored after her death.
Bobby didn't introduce Whitney to drugs...they just shared them! Praying for any and all affected/effected by drug abuse!
thank you,I have 22 years sobriety,4 children,8 grandchildren.
if you don't get rid of the pink elephant no matter how great your dreams, you will never reach the.
R I P whitney
but I completly understand where Celine is coming from.
Abe.....you may be honest, but you don't know your metaphors. It's an 800 pound gorilla you stooge!! New born elephants weigh nearly 800 #'s.
However, I agree with your comment.
I think most folks would agree that white folks in America aren't allowed to make speculative comments about black people in the media spotlight or in general. We can't because we don't know what its like to be "black". Remember those moronic tee-shirts of a decade ago....."It's a Black Thing, You Wouldn't Understand!!". Well, you're right! I don't want to understand! If understanding means that a person stating the obvious (Celine Dionne) about a has-been crack-head's death becomes the bad guy......I don't understand. Everyone is so conditioned to not say anything bad about black people, I guess its collective guilt for slavery....which neither myself or my ancestors were even here for, that Whitney gets a free pass and is remembered for all she "Did" in her life. Well, will someone please tell me what she "did" for anyone other than herself in her life??? Let's be honest, her Bobbi Brown look-a-like daughter, was out drinking with mom both nights before she bought the farm. I have an 18 year son, and not only is he NOT going to be out drinking and partying with dad, he's going to suffer consequences if he gets Caught drinking illegally. See, that's what parents do...
I also had the misfortune of watching about an hour of her "we goin' to have Chuuch!" service. I think Bobby Brown was smart to bail before it started, because he must have known it was going to be a bizarre, drawn-out 4 hour faux love marathon that enabled an endless series of self-indulgent, preening divas, both male & female, to destroy any shred of dignity that Whitney had left after her manner of death. I can't believe I'm going to say this; but the person who said the most poignant, sincere, BRIEF, and moving thing was TYLER PERRY!!?? MADEA ladies & gentlemen....Madea!!? It was embarrassing, and why do Jesse Jackson and Al frickin' Sharpton have to be at every single "black" event. Who pays for them to get there & can not the greater black community come up with two other guys who actually have full command of English and don't make it all about them?? I seem to recall a half-black guy I helped vote into the office of President a few years ago & he graduated from Columbia University AND Harvard Law, and he manages quite well to dazzle with his oratory, without being a "sell-out". So there are black women and men out there who can represent a lot better than two old guys who managed to fool an entire generation that they espouse the same ideals and had the same skills as Dr. Martin Luther King. I'm done with that.
I'm sorry, I'm just sick of this ridiculous double standard. I don't recall a national/global outpouring of nothing but love and false praise for the life Curt Cobain lived when he committed suicide. There were no cameras in the church service, his family had some class. However, everyone focused pretty much solely on his drug addiction. Two supremely talented people, two tragic and pointless early deaths. It would be nice if people around Whitney would use her death as a teaching point for young black girls that messing around with drugs and alcohol, hanging with the wrong people, & staying in a physically & emotionally abusive relationships with men are absolutely NOT acceptable, and they have alternative choices that will lead them to happy and hopefully successful lives. I'm not racist, look up the facts people @ who has by far the highest rates of abuse and addiction. Hint: it's not the Asians.
So, in closing, let's cut the crap and call a spade a spade here. Celine's comments, though hurtful to some, are 100% on target and should be welcomed, especially after this week-long denial period, not hushed up. What are we going to find out, that she died of an aneurism while taking a bath??? NO!! It's gonna be some combination of either prescription or illegal drugs & alcohol. Accept it, learn from it & move on.
Sorry if that hurts, but tearing the band-aid of quickly hurts a lot less that slowly.
Totally. The words hurt and I loved Whitney Houston. We have lost a great. Maybe her death was due to drugs maybe not. Toxicology reports will show it. But drugs and other abuses to her body did not help her career. I am glad to see someone with wisdom and a healthy fear of drugs, like Celion is an advocate for doing right.
