ABC is plucking its latest project from the bookshelf: The network is moving ahead with a pilot for an adaptation of the best-selling novel "Scruples," The Wrap reports.
Undoubtedly sweetening the deal, Oscar winner Natalie Portman is also signed on to executive produce the hour-long drama. Written by Judith Krantz in 1978, "Scruples" has already been on TV before, thanks to a 1980 miniseries starring Lindsay Wagner.
ABC's version is being sold as a "sexy soap set in the '70s" that follows a widowed socialite as she opens a boutique in Beverly Hills. According to Entertainment Weekly, Krantz's son Tony will executive produce the potential series alongside Portman.
