Talent runs in the family, and Jim Carrey isn't afraid to talk up his daughter Jane's vocal chops.
“My daughter is an incredible musician," he told CNN earlier this year of 24-year-old Jane. "Incredible singer-songwriter...She's amazing. And deep. Really thoughtful lyrics...So yeah, we come by it honestly."
On Sunday's "American Idol," Jane showed and proved what her dad has been raving about.
According to Us Weekly, the young mom was featured in "Idol's" San Diego auditions, and spoke a bit about trying out for a reality competition as a "Carrey."
"The last name definitely helps and hurts," Jane said. "There's this pressure to be better because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying 'you only got there because of [your name].' I'm here to make my place in the world."
But it seems Jane impressed "Idol" judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler with her take on Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About." Us Weekly reports that the judges wanted her to work on finding a better way to connect with the audience, but overall thought her performance held enough potential for her to move on to Hollywood week.
As for the elder Carrey, you likely won't see him trying to sing anytime soon. "You know, I always thought, 'I can carry a tune,'" he's told CNN, "but I don't think of myself as a singer, you know."
How do you think Jane Carrey did in the San Diego auditions?
