CW orders pilots for 'SATC' prequel, 'Beauty and the Beast'"Sex and the City" producer Michael Patrick King couldn't imagine telling Carrie Bradshaw's story pre-Manolos, Aidan, and Big, but the CW can. The home of "Gossip Girl" and "90210" has put in a pilot order for a "SATC" prequel series called "Carrie Diaries," based on the Candace Bushnell novel of the same name. Bushnell's book follows Bradshaw's character as a high school senior living in a small, New England town during the '80s.
The series will be told from Carrie's point of view (of course), and teen Carrie B. will be taking on the typical high school drama as well as Manhattan. That scenario is familiar territory for the executive producers of "Carrie Diaries," Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, as they're also behind the CW's NYC-based "Gossip Girl." Last summer, it was reported that former "SATC" writer Amy Harris, who has also contributed her talents to "Gossip Girl's" latest season, is adapting "Carrie Diaries" for TV. In addition to the "SATC" prequel, the CW also put in a pilot order for a reboot of the '80s show "Beauty and the Beast," which the Wrap describes as "a modern day romantic love story with a procedural twist." And that's not all: The network had another pilot order for an hour-long drama based on DC Comics' "Green Arrow" called "Arrow." Do any of these pilots sound promising? |
