'Glee' casts Rachel Berry's dads

After weathering the disappointment that Elton John reportedly wasn't available to play one of Rachel Berry's dads, Gleeks had a reason to perk up on Wednesday.

TVLine reports that Tony-winning Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent's" Jeff Goldblum will portray Hiram and LeRoy Berry, the couple who adopted and raised Lea Michele's character Rachel.

We won't have to wait long to see them in action, either - the Berry dads will make their first appearance in the February 14 episode of "Glee," and they're expected to sing.

"So excited that we're finally going to get to meet Rachel's dads!!! So anxious to get to work with both of them!!" Michele tweeted Wednesday. "Brian Stokes and I have been friends for ages!!! We worked together on Broadway! So happy he's going to be on the show!!!"

What do you think of this casting choice?

This show is garbage and should not be on the air. Saw it once and it made me question the value of even owning a television set.

My two daughters will no longer be allowed to watch Glee.
There is absolutely no reason to have the show potrya to men as parents of a child. Bad enough it happens in real life.
TV and Movies need to stop forcing the desires of a select group of deviants on the mainstream citizens of America.

The two gay dads are what threw you and your daughters for a loop?! Have you been watching any of the episodes with the several gay/lesbian teens? And maybe you should have paid attention to the shows message of acceptance for people of all different backgrounds, that seems like a good lesson to teach your daughters.

Hey, people are gay, not letting your kids watch it won't stop people from being gay or even your daughters from being lesbians if that's what they choose. There are a ton of shows depicting people who are just acting like idiots while glee is a show that promotes acceptance so that we have less people like you in the world. That is the reason for having two gay dads, they also have a lesbian couple, Santana and Brittany, who have been openly gay for a while now. People like you need to see that there's no problem with it because they are equally capable of being in love and raising a family as any other couple. The reality is that people are gay, and there's no way that you're going to be able to stop your daughters from being exposed to that truth.

Sorry,, but given WHO Rachel is,,, this is NOT a good choice. She needs more polish and put together men. My thought,, (while hardly a chance of getting them to do the part) is Hugh Jackman and Shemar Moore. They would have been PERFECT!

It should have been Taye Diggs and Nathan Lane! With Idena Menzel as her birth mother, Taye really should be one of her fathers, right?! And, of course, who can say no to Nathan Lane?
And, yes, Jeff Goldblum can sing. He's also a rather accomplished pianist.

My thoughts exactly. The picture shows a black and white guy and what made it funny was that while they were showing the picture Rachel says that she doesn't know which one her real father was because they just mixed up the sperm and mixed it with the egg. Most people would obviously assume her dad was the white guy because she isn't dark skinned which, like I said, provided some comic relief that she could think the black guy was actually her dad.

Actually, Stokes is quite mixed, as you might be able to tell by his picture. Just as an FYI. He is kind of um... "racially ambiguous" but certainly has some African decent going on.

Brian Stokes Mitchell is African-American, so this fits with the original idea of the dads.

There is a continuity problem here. I believe in the either the pilot or second episode, there was a scene where Rachel goes to her locker and she opens it and she is looking at a photo of her fathers, one father is white and the other is black. They should have given this more thought. Does anyone know if Goldblum can sing?

I agree. That's the first thing when I saw the photos. I was looking for one of them to be black, like they wrote in the script. Those two are fine actors, but it does not follow what was written.

How can you forget that Jeff Goldblum is mixed? Come on it's the 21st century.

are you seriously going to nit pick a show that involved a synchronized swimming marriage proposal? I think the picture in her locker is the least of this ridiculous show's problems.

Brian Stokes Mitchell is black, it's just not a good picture. Here he is in Ragtime: http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvpmcshEKu1qe39blo1_500.jpg
