While you were working...Today's news you might've missed:
'Glee' casts Rachel Berry's dadsAfter weathering the disappointment that Elton John reportedly wasn't available to play one of Rachel Berry's dads, Gleeks had a reason to perk up on Wednesday. TVLine reports that Tony-winning Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent's" Jeff Goldblum will portray Hiram and LeRoy Berry, the couple who adopted and raised Lea Michele's character Rachel. We won't have to wait long to see them in action, either - the Berry dads will make their first appearance in the February 14 episode of "Glee," and they're expected to sing. Is Emily Maynard the new 'Bachelorette'?Reports are circulating that Emily Maynard, 25, will return to reality TV to try and find love once again. According to People magazine, the single mom was hesitant to sign on, but "The Bachelorette" is rumored to be relocating production to her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. If that were to happen, she could potentially do the show without being away from her daughter. Maynard has already fallen in love on the ABC franchise, as she won season 15 of "The Bachelor" and was briefly engaged to Brad Womack. 'X Factor's' Chris Rene, Astro, Marcus Canty sign with EpicAs we've learned from more than one reality competition over the past few years, just because you don't win the grand prize doesn't mean you're going to lose out on a shot at a singing career. Although "X Factor's" Chris Rene was a runner-up to the show's first season winner Melanie Amaro, he's joining the singer at Epic Records nonetheless, a rep from the label tells CNN. "I've dreamt about this moment my whole life," Rene has told Entertainment Weekly. "And now it's here. Working with L.A. Reid - 'Big Homie' - is a dream come true." 'Glee' returns with NeNe...and a cliffhanger"Glee" returned on Tuesday night with reality star NeNe Leakes, Helen Mirren's voice (which provided Becky's internal monologue), and not one but two proposals - the last of which ended in a cliffhanger. (If you're nervous about spoilers, you should stop reading now.) Let's start with Leakes' character, Roz Washington, the synchronized swim coach who is just as vocal as Leakes is on her Bravo reality show. Snooki: Trump for president, pleaseIf you're unenthusiastic about the options available for the 2012 presidential nomination, Snooki feels your pain. As she relayed at a recent press conference - for the launch of Team Snooki Boxing, the Huffington Post tells us - she's unimpressed. The guy she wants to put her "Jersey Shore" influence behind (millions of people do watch her pickles-and-booze-fueled antics on the reality show, after all, although less at the start of the fifth season than usual) isn't even a contender. Not at the moment, anyway. Nick Cannon: I'm back, and feeling 100 percentTwo weeks following his hospitalization in Aspen due to kidney troubles, Nick Cannon is on the mend. The actor and "America's Got Talent" host has posted a video reassuring fans that he's regaining his health, and during a simulcast interview with Howard Stern Tuesday, the 31-year-old gave a more detailed explanation of what was going on. Originally, doctors thought it was kidney stones, but after more tests they realized it "was more serious, and they found that my kidneys weren't functioning well," he said. LL Cool J to host this year's GrammysLadies aren't the only ones who love him. The Grammy Awards has announced that actor/rapper LL Cool J will host this year's 54th annual ceremony. The performer (whose rap initials stand for "Ladies Love Cool James") is a two-time Grammy winner and has hosted the Grammy Nominations Concert since it began in 2008. LL (whose real name is James Smith) is promising viewers of this year's telecast a big night. FULL POST George Lucas says he's ready to retireGeorge Lucas' cinematic tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen, "Red Tails," opens in theaters on Friday, and it might be the last opportunity for fans to see a more commercial Lucas production. After spending nearly $100 million on the biopic about African-American World War II pilots starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard and David Oyelowo, Lucas tells the New York Times that he's ready to call it quits. From blockbusters, anyway. "I'm retiring. I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all kinds of stuff," the "Star Wars" legend said. |
