There is a film in theaters right now about nothing but various scenarios that all take place on New Year's Eve, but this isn't about that movie.
Instead, we're going to look back at some flicks that have moments devoted to the spirit of December 31: wistful recollection of moments now past, anticipation for what the future holds, the sense of impending (and in one case, tragic) change and the urge to party like tomorrow's a holiday and you won't have to wake up for work.
Take a look at our list, and leave your own favorites in the comments!
1. "When Harry Met Sally" (1989) - We know some of you have Harry's New Year's Eve speech to Sally memorized. And when we say "you," we're also including ourselves.
2. "The Apartment" (1960) - "Shut up and deal" should probably be invoked at NYE parties everywhere this weekend.
3. "Radio Days" (1987) - Woody Allen's film about the bygone days of radio is about as reminiscent as it gets.
4. "Bridget Jones's Diary" (2001) - The premise of the film all begins at a fateful New Year's Day party, and by the end, the titular protagonist is ready to start fresh.
5. "200 Cigarettes" (1999) This isn't a scene as much as it's the plot of the entire movie, but the preparations and expectations for NYE ring true.
What about 3D movies?
You come a lot closer to the actors and story in 3D movies.
After I found out i could play 3D movies on my iPad, i prefer 3D movies if possible.
Any suggestions for good 3D movies on 3D?
Three of the best New Year's Eve movies of all times:
1. Super Fly (1972)
2. Shaft in Africa (1973)
3. Dolemite (1975)
Bundle of Joy is the ultimate NYE movie...a must see...
Rudolph's Shiny New Year, of course!
When Harry met Sally is my favorite as well.
I'm with Mitch. The original "Oceans 11" set during New Years Eve was a top NYE movie. Vegas history, the Rat pack with Shirley McClaine, and a quite fetching Angie Dickinson in 1960. Great flick.
The Horn Blows At Midnight, with Jack Benny was always my favorite to watch on TV, when I was a kid.
The towering inferno
the walking dead is cool great thing to watch to welcome the new year . awsome . im loving it . didnt party this end of the year just had a death in the family . so watching a horror flick makes me feel little better . i wish u all the happiest new year ever . dont stop smiling dont give u live life to the greastest like its ur last . love u all . happy new years ...
In our household the one and only choice is "Irony of Fate"
Mandatory watching ....
My favorite was and still is THE BODYGUARD. Always wanted romance for NYE and that one did it. Too bad Whitney isn't what she was in that movie. Kevin's still hot though!
We watch the Thin Man movies on New Year's Eve. Myrna Loy was awesome!!! They are such fun movies and remind us that there used to be quality filmmaking with classy stars and well written scripts.
2001: A Space Odyssey
Steel Magnolias cause life really is short and you never know whats waiting just around the next bend! Happy New Year everybody and please be safe!
When u all ready my sweet
I iz a freak and I iz a fruit. I get butt-slammed and it is a hoot! Every time dem gayboyz grab my dong, it makes me wanna hit dat bong! We get all boozed and we get all ripped....next thing u know my pants iz unzipped. Dem lil dudes just wanna hear...the sound it makes when I slide it in der rear! See ya!!
I thought I told you yesterday to go sell your crazy somewhere else. Nobody is reading your wacky posts. Go to a site where other freaks congregate. You is a pud that likes to take a monster jig-a-boo schlonger in da pooper!!
u r absolutely right woody allen . he must of needed to go so he put down waterver movies . just so he could leave
sucks big time! His movie shouldn't have even been on here. In fact, this list sucks. This person just threw something together fast because they probably wanted to go home early or to get to some little party the company was having. That's my take on this list.
Wasn't it New Years Eve on the train in TRADING PLACES? Way better than any Woody Allen movie! Lol
I'm mostly into horror myself. I'm watching Venom now..lol. Happy New Year to you as well.
happy new year every one may this year be better then the last ...
dont like any of those movies mentioned . i like horror movies . lol add some of those ..
All of the entries listed pale in comparison to the best New Year's Eve movie ever – The Poseidon Adventure.
Yes! I always watch that on NYE; it's still such a great disaster movie. Great cast too!
OMG Hene Hackman's "Not this woman" scene makes me cry every time. As does Ernest Borgnine's "You had a lot of guts lady. A lot of guts."
No one mentioned the best New Year's movie ever-the original Oceans Eleven with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis. Along with being the ultimate Rat Pack movie it also includes Dino singing "Ain't that a kick in the Head."
And the best music compositon to a film belong to:
I choose Sleepless in Seattle. The scene where Tom Hanks has a drink with his departed wife is very heartwarming and I think, a brave choice for a popular movie.
1 miilion Viewers on this one.
This is the way it should have ended. In the end, when Sam tells his son Jonah, "maybe we can get a dog" and then they meet up with Annie. They get in the elevator – The camera zooms in on Jonah. Just before the doors close, he looks up at his Dad and says, " Can we still get that dog?" LOL
getting ready for 2012 and still FIRSTY!
