While you were working...Today's news you might've missed:
Alicia Silverstone ties with Mariah for worst celeb baby nameAccording to a BabyNames.com poll, Alicia Silverstone’s little boy is among the celebrity babies saddled with the worst names in Hollywood. The L.A. Times reports that the poll, based on votes from 10,000 users, ranks Silverstone’s choice as the worst boy’s name of 2011. Her tot’s wacky moniker? Bear Blu Jarecki. Alicia has said that her mother-in-law is behind the non-traditional name. “She suggested Bear or Blu," the actress told Us Magazine. "I loved them both." Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill, wife expecting babyKings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill and his wife, model Lily Aldridge, are prepping for a little one, a rep for the musician's band confirms to CNN. "We are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our first child together,” the couple says in a statement. “We can't wait to meet the new addition to our family." The singer, 29, and the Victoria’s Secret Angel, 26, married in Santa Barbara last May. The Throwback: Cameron Crowe’s 'Singles'Writer/director Cameron Crowe's latest effort, "We Bought A Zoo," is in theaters now, but my favorite film of his has always been one of his earliest: the seminal Gen X comedy “Singles." Crowe’s films are distinct not because of a unique visual style, but because they’re all journeys of human emotion. (That, and his movies always have the best soundtracks.) When "Singles," the second film he directed, was released in September of 1992, it made a huge impact on me. Although I was a kid at the time, even now I can see how well it's held up over the years. Lady Gaga to help drop New Year's ballLady Gaga has been inescapable for 2011, so it makes sense that she'll also be on hand to help us draw this year to a close. The New Yorker will be back in town on New Year's Eve as Mayor Bloomberg's special guest, a spokesperson for the mayor tells CNN. Although he's never met the "Born This Way" singer, Bloomberg said at a press conference Wednesday that he's seen Gaga in action and found her to be "a great entertainer," the New York Daily News reports. ABC releases 'Revenge' teaserIt’s been a long, cold winter so far for fans of ABC’s “Revenge.” The primetime soap, which took a holiday hiatus after airing its 10th episode on December 7, returns to the tube on Wednesday. And in case fans weren’t excited enough about the show’s homecoming, ABC has released a 10-minute long first look that will have viewers wishing 2011 would just go already. (Spoilers after the jump!) Is Debra Messing dating her 'Smash' co-star?Debra Messing is making headlines, but it's not for her new NBC show "Smash" - well, not exactly. After announcing her split from her husband of 10 years last week, Messing is rumored to be dating her "Smash" co-star, Will Chase. (The show, which also stars "Idol" alum Katharine McPhee, is a midseason drama about what goes on behind-the-scenes on Broadway.) Kendra, Holly come to Hef's defense in dog debateThey may have moved on from their relationship with Playboy's Hugh Hefner, but Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson still have his back. The two former "Girls Next Door" stars were livid when they heard that Hef's ex-fiancee, Crystal Harris, was trying to take back the Cavalier King Charles spaniel puppy she initially handed over to Hefner after she called off their June wedding. At the time, Crystal gave Hef the dog because “she thinks he’s happier here," Hefner tweeted June 20. "I appreciate it, because I really missed him." Emma Watson, Bieber boast 2011's 'Most Influential' hairAccording to the Wall Street Journal, two young stars have the hottest haircuts of the year: actress Emma Watson and singer Justin Bieber. The paper has dubbed their hairstyles the "Most Influential" of 2011. “Hairstylists are being inundated with requests for pixie cuts and the Bieber swish,” the WSJ notes. (As you can see in the photo above, though, Bieber doesn't even have the "Bieber swish" anymore - he cut his hair in February.) Nonetheless, the paper continues, “The enthusiasm plays out online, where the fastest-rising searches for celebrity haircuts on Google are for Ms. Watson and Mr. Bieber.” 'Hell on Wheels' picked up for season 2AMC’s hit Western drama will be back for another season. The network announced Tuesday that their popular new series is officially on for another round. The railroad drama is the second-highest rated series on AMC, after zombie fest “The Walking Dead.” “Hell on Wheels,” set in the post-Civil War era, stars Anson Mount as a former Confederate soldier and rap artist Common playing a former slave. The two men work together on the first transcontinental railroad amidst the chaos of the changing country. The first season finale airs January 15 at 10 p.m. ET. |
