While you were working...Today's news you might've missed:
Manolo Blahnik doesn't approve of Suri's high heelsFamed shoe designer Manolo Blahnik has a warning for tiny fashionista Suri Cruise. In an interview with New York Magazine, the man behind Carrie Bradshaw’s favorite sky-high stilettos was shocked to learn that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s tiny tot already prefers pumps. “She wears high heels?” Manolo asked, incredulously. Mindy Kaling gets her own cartoon“The Office's” Mindy Kaling is getting animated. The funny lady has landed her own cartoon on NBC, Deadline reports. Good news for fans of Kaling’s new book, “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?”: The 32 year-old comedian will write, executive produce, and voice a character for the series, which is said to be about a high school volleyball team. Lea Michele explains name change to Leno“Glee” starlet Lea Michele has made a name for herself without using her actual last name, but she opened up about why she dropped it Wednesday on “The Tonight Show." It's not unheard of for Hollywood stars to adopt a so-called mainstream moniker or just drop the last name altogether, but Lea says her new name was born of schoolyard bullying, not celebrity styling. "Sarfati. That's my real last name," the 25-year-old actress revealed to Jay Leno. "I don't use it a lot because I got Lea So-fatty, Lea So-farty at school. So when I was little and I went on my first audition they were like, 'And may we have your name,' and I was like 'Lea Michele.'" Merry 'Express Christmas' from 'Modern Family'Leave it to Phil Dunphy to come up with "Express Christmas." (TM!) Wednesday night's episode (for the second episode in a row) saw the entire clan pitching in to pull off a big family holiday, since none of them were going to be together for Christmas after that day. They all went out in (somewhat unlikely) pairs, and it's quite a testament to the strength of this ensemble that any combination of characters works. Questlove had a certain song ready for Katie HolmesQuestlove got in trouble with NBC for playing Fishbone's "Lyin' A– B-–h" as the walk-on song for Michele Bachmann on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” but Bachmann hasn't been his only target. According to the New York Post, he also had a particular track in mind for Katie Holmes. Questlove reportedly told Rolling Stone that he wanted to play "She Blinded Me With Science" as the actress walked out, but Jimmy Fallon shut him down. Neve Campbell's Lifetime movie may become seriesNeve Campbell could be making a more regular return to the small screen. The once-upon-a-time "Party of Five"-er is starring in a Lifetime movie called "Sworn to Silence," and Entertainment Weekly reports that the network is thinking of treating it as a "backdoor pilot" for a possible series. "Sworn to Silence" sees Campbell's character return to the Amish Ohio town she grew up in as the police chief. Soon enough, she's heading up a murder investigation that recalls memories of grisly killings that happened in the community when she was a kid. If "Sworn to Silence" sounds familiar, perhaps you've picked up Linda Castillo's book of the same name, which is what the pilot is based on. 'Top Chef': Were those steaks sabotaged?Last night’s episode of “Top Chef: Texas” had it all: bickering, classical cooking, steak and a visit to the ER. For the Quickfire, our chefs pulled knives labeled with one of five froufrou, Frenchy words: veloute, bechamel, espagnole, hollandaise and tomate. We’re told these are the five mother sauces, which I think means they’re the primary colors of the sauce world. Each cheftestant had to make a dish based on the sauce picked. This season’s supposedly new judge Emeril Lagasse was subbed out again, this time for Dean Fearing - with an emphasis on “fear.” Not a lot of laughs for 'Three Stooges' trailerThe trailer for the Farrelly brothers' closely watched "Three Stooges" has been released, but reaction to it has been less than kind. Starring Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos and Will Sasso as well as features from Jennifer Hudson, Sofia Vergara, and Larry David, the trailer is filled with typical "Stooges" humor mixed with more modern references, like an iPhone and Snooki. Uh-huh - the tiny orange one from "Jersey Shore."
Slashfilm has examined the teaser trailer in a state of disbelief, finding the thought of the rumored original cast - Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey - even thinking "about doing this movie" to be "totally insane," given how the flick's teaser trailer has turned out. Seacrest may be in running for possible 'Today' spotRyan Seacrest is among the busiest in the business thanks to his myriad hosting and production duties, and it sounds like he's being eyed for another job: That of co-anchor on "Today." The Wall Street Journal pegs it as a possibility, as the paper reports that NBC is looking to Seacrest as a potential successor to Matt Lauer, should the anchor depart the morning show next year. Lauer's been in the co-anchor spot on the program since 1997, and the paper notes that he's recently been hinting that he's thinking of departing. |
