Another president has been cast in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming historical drama “Lincoln,” and it's another Brit actor. Variety reports that “Mad Men” star Jared Harris has signed on to play Ulysses S. Grant.
Hollywood heavyweight Daniel Day-Lewis landed the role of Abraham Lincoln, while Harris (Lane Pryce on AMC's "Mad Men") will portray Civil War general Grant. Grant became the country’s 18th president four years after Lincoln’s assassination.
Sally Field has also been cast in the DreamWorks film as First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln. “Lincoln” is said to begin shooting soon, but doesn’t have a release date yet.
Writer Tony Kushner ("Angels in America," "Munich") penned the film’s screenplay, which is based on "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The story will center on Lincoln’s conflicts with his cabinet as they moved toward abolition and the resolution of the Civil War.
