Critically acclaimed chanteuse Adele is receiving yet another accolade: The Brit's hit album “21” has earned the year’s highest certification to date.
According to a press release, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has awarded the singer a quadruple-platinum plaque for her sophomore effort. (Platinum status is earned by selling one million units, by the way.)
Since its February release, “21” has been flying off the shelves - it was certified platinum by March.
The single “Someone Like You” in itself actually reached double-platinum status; the song has sold over two million U.S. downloads.
Although the singer had to cancel some of her performances because of health issues and an eventual vocal cord surgery, 2011 is shaping up to be a solid year for Adele. The 23-year-old bombshell is also expected to earn multiple Grammy nods when some of the nominations are announced tonight on CBS at 10 p.m.
Its like you learn my thoughts! You appear to understand so much about this, such as you wrote the e book in it or something. I believe that you simply could do with some p.c. to power the message home a little bit, however instead of that, that is wonderful blog. An excellent read. I'll definitely be back.
She has a great voice, but I remian neutral to her. There's nothing to go nuts over. Her songs are boring. Plus, she insulted Lady Gaga for her weight and hinted that that size was unhealthy.
We don't need people of Adele's size as role models for our children. Think about the children. What about the children? Adele is a health hazard.
She probably had a quadruple burger to celebrate her quadruple-platinum record.
In 2009 Susan Boyle, also British, achieved 4X Platinum (USA) in just 45 days, the fastest since Platinum began in 1984. But she got almost no coverage from CNN. Helps to be young and pretty I guess. Adele is 23 rather than 50. A young person's game still, even if she does keep her clothes on.

whats amazing is that she is a killer writer and the way she turns a phrase
keep it adele! u got such a rich voice. luv'ya
A sad song about your boyfriend/girlfriend for all you bubblegum zit-faced tweenies does not a bona-fide talented vocalist make.
Adele's talent is currently unmatched in the current music scene.
I'd suggest listening to any one of her songs, before you make
an uninformed comment about her as a singer. At 23 years of age,
her sound is unique and her songs are worthy and creative.
DERP – you are a waste of skin....and really resorting to name calling who's the moron now!!!
Bombshell? yeah right, only thing this fat cow is going to bomb is that buffet table! lol
Its amazing how people like yourself get on blogs like this one and start naming calling. First you don't know her, most people that has a weight promblem is not because they eat to much its because they may have a medical condition. Before you start name calling people get to know why they have a weight problem. And for Adele she has a very unique and beauitful voice.
Quadruple Platinum? That's just her panty size.
What has her size got to do with anything? She has got an amazing voice and is very talented. Some people put too much emphasis on a person weight and looks.Maybe she is happy with the way she looks. You have got to give her creidit where credit is due.She is,after all,the one that's making millions......
Adele is from a by-gone era. She has the vocal abilities of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. She's the ONLY young female singer, I actually listen to. All the others are Wanna-Be's. Keep rockin', sister!!!
If you like Adele, try Gabriella Cilmi or Madita. There is some very good stuff out there in that genre. You just don't here it here in the US.
She must be choking on a ham sandwich in that picture because she looks like she's motioning for someone to give her the Heimlich maneuver.
It amazes me the amount of negativity that is written on these forums.
You hide behind your computer trying so desperately wanting to be something your not and trying to sound and act cool but in reality you are the ones that are worthless peices or jealous SH!T!!!
You would be so much happier if you really looked into yourself and figured out the person you really want to be instead of blasting out comments that no one really cares for as it just shows your insecurities and how pathetic you really are.
Waste of skin you are!!! I am embarrased that I share the same planet as you!
You should be ashamed of the following:
1) Your alias
2) The fact that you're trying to reason with trolls
3) It's "You're" not "Your" in one of your sentences...
and if I wanted your opinion I would pull it out of your A$$ – it is obvious you have nothing better to do than put people down and correct their English...get a life and have a great day!!!
"and if I wanted your opinion I would pull it out of your A$$"
You are commenting on an internet opinion board. You are probably going to get some opinions.
hardly... hardly a bombshell.
nice voice, though.
Seriously people? Walter Cronkite must be turning over in his revered grave over the tween level of discussion on this news site. Adele's voice is stunning and rivals Aretha & Patti Labell. She has humor, grace and sanity, doesn't do drugs and in this picture looks to be a completely normal, healthy weight. Re-condition your eyes people: most actors and performers are about 5'5, 100 lbs and have very large heads. I weep for the next gen...
This picture is photoshopped.
Hello? We have an obesity problem and don't need people of Adele's size as role models for our children. Think about the children. What about the children?
Rolling In the Deep is a bonafide classic song that will still be heard when all you naysayers are long gone.
Wow, fat jokes. Hey, how much have you done to make someone, ANYONE'S day better in the last 9 months (aside from keeping your goofy asses at home)? Her voice is more than just her size. Do the world a favor, play her music the next time you hit the treadmill... or the online singles dating chats lol. There you go.
Congrats to her. I honestly don't like most of her music, but I respect her for her voice. She's a breath of fresh air in today's world of autotune and beats before lyrics music.
Her next move should be going after a quadruple bypass.
Shocker that someone named "ilovefarts" would go for the fat joke. Great voice. Songs not my cup of tea.
Chanteuse, really? Put down the thesaurus and write like a human being.
Or, you could get a better education so you understand all the big words that some people do use in conversation.
I thought the same thing Steve. Elizabeth, have you ever used that word in conversation? Has anyone on here ever used that word before in their life? Stop trying to sound smart, just write the article.
For those of you who haven't heard her go out and buy her album. She is amazing! With as much airplay as she gets chances are you have heard her but just didn't know it!
Man...America and the rest of the world prove once again they don't expect much out of music. Cant stand this crap.
Dude...she is British...it must be good.
Wonder if her label and CNN are owned by the same media conglomerate. Smells like a cross-promotion puff piece to me.
She sounds like a mop and a butter tray scrappin against eachother during the summer in Honduras. Actually never heard her before,... but x4 platnum is a head turner. Will give her a listen,...but still say she sucks. Rock on...
Great comment Chang!
You make me want to oppose the first amendment.. Dumb@zz.
ummmm, who? I'll have to Google her if she's sold 4-million songs. She must be good.
She sold 4 million records, not just 4 million songs.
Her powerful, unaltered vocal range is the reason she got the quad.
Adele is the best!!!!!! I have "21" and I Love it!!! I would love to see her in person. She is sold out for her next concert here.
I have that CD and it is pretty good, but time will tell her story. Nora Jones won eight grammys and then she fell off the Earth. It happens.
I LOVE HER!! She sings damn near the same in public as she does on an LP. But better in concert.
That's amazing!Congratulations Adele you deserve it,you have a unique voice and are very gifted.
Never heard of her before. She must be a good singer though. That is alot of sales. Good for her.
Same here...but hey! this is America and she is British....she must be good....I will buy.
What, you guys live under a rock or something ? Never heard of Adele ?
I have never heard of her either. I don't live under a rock, just not into this sort of music.
"I have never heard of her either. I don't live under a rock, just not into this sort of music"
If you have never heard of her, how do you know what kind of music it is?
There is a chance that he was referring to "mainstream" music...
"There is a chance that he was referring to "mainstream" music.."
Ok.....if he has never heard of her, how would he know she is mainstream?
She could be punk, rap, alt, country or metal. There is nothing in the article that mentions the genre she performs in.
She is AMAZING, do buy!!! She has a real gift.
I'm surprised it took five comments before the first weight joke came... impressive.
Yeah, we're really evolving here. I wouldn't mind having a few extra pounds on me though if it meant having a voice like hers or the best selling album in years. Plus, she'll probably get about ten Grammys this year (and deserves them) so she's laughing all the way to the bank.
Also, she's really pretty anyway.
And what exactly does her body size has to do with her talent?
Wow...if you honestly think Adele has a great voice, you must be one sheltered person. Also, it's old news that Grammies do not necessarily equate to truly great talent. Try expanding your horizons beyond Top-40 radio and American Idol.
