Guy Ritchie: I don't regret marriage to MadonnaGuy Ritchie and Madonna ended their eight-year marriage in 2008 – and the former Mr. Madge is finally speaking out, spilling about the union to Details. "I enjoyed my first marriage. It's definitely not something I regret," Ritchie, 43, tells the December/January issue of Details. "The experience was ultimately very positive. I love the kids that came out of it, and I could see no other route to take." Ritchie has a biological child with Madonna, son Rocco, 11, and an adopted son, David Banda, 6. (Madonna also has daughter Lourdes, 14, from a previous relationship, and adopted daughter Mercy James, also 6, from after her split with Guy.)
"But you move on, don't you?" he continues. "You're right, I stepped into a soap opera, and I lived in it for quite a long period of my life. I'll probably be more eloquent on it 10 years from now." But the "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" director makes an attempt to elaborate during the interview, saying that he learned "when you end up with a lot of the things you set out to chase and find that you've stumbled into all sorts of hollow victories, then you become deeply philosophical." The Brit filmmaker explains he's "quite happy" that realization was "accelerated" for him. "I'm glad I made money, in other words," he tells Details. "And I'm glad I got married." Guy hasn’t tried marriage again, but like his ex-wife, he is still expanding his family (and dating 20-somethings). Ritchie and girlfriend Jacqui Ainsley, 29, welcomed a baby boy in September. |
