VH1 series channels 'Jersey Shore' ... with moms

A new reality TV indulgence is coming our way courtesy of “Jersey Shore” executive producer SallyAnn Salsano, according to a statement from VH1.

“Mama Drama” will drop partying mom/daughter pairs (and one trio) into the same house so we can watch as the moms live out their preference to be more like friends with their daughters than parents. We're thinking this is going to be kind of like “Jersey Shore” meets “Bad Girls Club” meets “Toddlers and Tiaras.”

The moms and their BFF daughters are dolled up for a promo shot in super-tight mini dresses and stilettos, giving us a hint at what's to come.

Says "Jersey Shore" EP Salsano to the Hollywood Reporter, "This show is emotionally and visually stimulating...These characters are real and raw and don't apologize for anything."

Salsano adds that she can understand some of the close mother-daughter bonds depicted in the show, as she's tight with her own mom - although she can't relate to their social lives.  “I can tell you I’ve never been to a nightclub doing shots and hooking up with guys in front of my mother," she tells THR.

But according to VH1’s Original Programming and Production EVP, Jeff Olde, “We see examples of this all around today with mothers living vicariously through their daughters."

VH1 has ordered 10 episodes of the “docu-style social experiment,” which premieres January 1 at 9 p.m. Will you watch “Mama Drama”?

Wasn't having to see Lindsy Lohan and her mother enough? Didn't these mothers see how Lindsy's life has turned out? Time for moms to grow up and start acting like responsible adults. P.S.: Moms, leave the mini skirts and stilettos for your kids, grow up.

  8. Please, enough !

The people of VH-1 these days are idiots.
Bad enough we have to suffer "Jersey Shore", "Kardashians" and other idiocy of "reality" shows, assaulting us nearly on all fronts and now this ?? People, just say no to so-called "reality" tv, ok ? It's all scripted, fake and pumped up.

M-TV. and VH-1....just go back to showing music videos like you're supposed to ...ok, sure, a few tv shows or even those funny dating / game shows that aired in the '90s but NO MORE reality shows.

    Anyone out there agree ?

This is sure to be a total waste of airtime. Please, for the love of all that is holy, stick to music and don't go the way of MTV (which is now the youth lifestyle channel).

This should be an entertaining and educational show. Helping mothers and daughters learn to interact better together is a positive goal. Us Obama supporters need to promote this community type approach to child rearing. It takes a village.

Who thinks up this trash? What happened to the days when VH1 and MTV used to play music videos? Now all we get is stupid, demoralizing trash like this. The truly amazing thing is that there are people who actually watch this crap. Come on, people! I am not asking everyone to watch Masterpiece Theater, but at least turn the dial to something that is going to stimulate your mind rather than rot it away.

And the assault on the American Family continues. Parents as friends and not parents is just wrong.

Delays??? I dont like delays. Viewers don't like delays. I dont usually watch reality shows but I am planning to watch this one. .....this should be an interesting series...... Teens drift away from needing parents especially in their teen years. To make the shift from parent & child to parent & adult daughter relationship can be a very difficult transition. Figuring out how to bridge that communication gap is trial and error. Mom's in general face empty nest syndrome, change of life, and loneliness. These mothers and daughters on Mama Drama are sharing their lives with us on national tv. It will be interesting to see how they are working together through the tough transition in figuring it all out and how they have learned to bridge their own personal generation gap. Like all reality tv, I'm sure there are very real clashing personalities that put a spin on things. All in all, I think this show will do more than just entertain. It will cause other mothers and daughters to look at their own relationships, establish boundaries, and open up new communication. Though my own mom never went out with me and my friends, in her own way she did the gradual process of transition, working into the role of being my adult friend. I can honestly say my mom was always mom, but she was also my dear friend.
