Justin Long is 'New Girl's' new love interest

Though many "New Girl" fans might like to see Jess get together with her roommate, Nick, that probably isn't happening anytime soon.

Instead, show creator Liz Meriwether is pairing up Zooey Deschanel's character with a fellow music teacher, Justin Long, an actor who almost seems born to play Jess's boyfriend.

"He’s a music teacher at her school, and whatever the male form of 'adorkable' is," as Meriwether described him to reporters on Monday.

While you were working...

Today's news you might've missed:

  • Production on Maria Bello's "Prime Suspect" is shutting down this month. They'll finish their 13th episode and then Bello will hang up her snazzy headgear for the season. NBC says they're still "considering options" for the series, but it's not looking good. [Deadline Hollywood]
  • Say what you will about Paris Hilton, but you can't call her heartless when it comes to our four-legged friends. She tweeted of her recent stop in Bali, "Saw a starving stray dog on the beach of the restaurant. Made me so sad. So we ordered him a filet mignon, he loved it." [Paris Hilton's Twitter]
  • Everyone, it's OK. Brad Pitt's 50th birthday isn't a hard-and-fast benchmark of when he and Angelina Jolie will depart Hollywood and go live on their own personal planet and have more babies. He was just giving us a rough estimate. [Us Weekly]
  • Drake, to the L.A. Times: "Yeah, I wear a lot of sweaters. I love sweaters. Fair enough. I’ll be the guy that wears great sweaters." If you want our opinion, we support this rapper/singer/actor's choice in knitwear. He always look so cuddly!  [L.A. Times]
  • This sure looks like J. Bieber flipping paps the bird. And who's the blonde with him? [The Superficial]

NBC puts 'Community' on hiatus

That sound you heard yesterday afternoon was countless "Community" fans furiously tweeting their outrage after NBC released its 2012 midseason schedule with the critically acclaimed comedy conspicuously absent. In its place, "30 Rock" will return on January 12.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources with the network said it "will return at a later date," along with new series "Prime Suspect," which is being shelved in favor of "The Firm," starting on January 12.

Some fans on Twitter immediately assumed the worst, fearing the show was canceled or at least on the verge of cancellation. Hashtags referencing lines from the show, like "#sixseasonsandamovie", "#savegreendale" and "#savecommunity" were also popular.

Real estate blog The Real Estalker reports that Helberg and wife Jocelyn Towne paid just $2.9 million for the Mediterranean-style abode last month.

Jay-Z on fatherhood: Being there is most important

Kelly Rowland has mentioned on the red carpet that Beyonce and Jay-Z's little girl - assuming the superstar soon-to-be mom is in fact having a girl in February - will get everything she could ever desire from her industry mogul dad.

But Jay, 42, says in a new interview with GQ magazine that it's not about just spending the cash he and Bey have acquired throughout their careers.

"Providing - that's not love," the rapper tells GQ. "Being there - that's more important. I mean, we see that. We see that with all these rich socialites. They're crying out for attention; they're hurting for love. I'm not being judgmental, I'm just making an observation. They're crying out for love they didn't get at home, and they got everything. All the material things they could need and want. So we know that's not the key."

"Oh yeah, I think about it everyday…retiring early [that is]!" he revealed to CNN at Monday's L.A. premiere of "Breaking Dawn."
