NBC hires Chelsea Clinton as special correspondent

Chelsea Clinton may have avoided the public eye in the past, but she's now stepping into the spotlight.

The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been hired as a special correspondent for NBC's "Nightly News" and "Rock Center with Brian Williams," effective Monday.

She'll contribute to the "Making a Difference" series, which focuses on "extraordinary stories from ordinary people," CNN's Political Ticker reports.

You do realize these "kids" are very educated in their own right. It's nice to hear a younger person's opinion on what is going on in this world.

Howard Kurtz said it best on CNN earlier today. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said it looks as though the news media is showing that it's more important to be famous than to have talent for this thing we used to call journalism. This is why sensalism rules the day in the field. I like Chelsea as well as Jenna Bush. But this is a ridiculous trend. Why bothering going to school to study such when you can just walk into a job simply by being the child of the right person. Just ask Luke Russert!
