Take heart all you "Project Runway" fans who fear acute withdrawal once the season finale airs - there's always "Project Accessory."
The spin-off to the popular fashion design show debuts Thursday right after the season-ending episode of "Runway" (I'm rooting for Anya to make a come-from-behind victory, by the way). In the spin-off, 12 designers will compete for $100,000 and other prizes by crafting shoes, handbags, jewelry and other accessories. All on nerve-wracking deadlines, of course.
Actress/model Molly Sims is hosting the show, with design magnate Kenneth Cole among the judges. The elaborately-named Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti will serve in the Tim Gunn/mentor role.
We talked with Sims, and she promised we'll be blown away by the talent of the designers (she confessed to wanting to take home some of the pieces the competitors made on the show). She says the contestants worked so hard "their fingers bled." Yikes.
But there is a downside to hosting the show: Giving the boot to ousted contestants. "It was very difficult to give them some bad news," Sims says, "because this is their life and their livelihood."
Does she have a trademark brush-off line, like "Project Runway" host Heidi Klum's "auf Wiedersehen," for when designers are eliminated?
"I can't tell you," she said. "You'll just have to wait and see!"
Sims has been very busy of late, shooting an episode of "Royal Pains" in addition to her "Project Accessory" work. And she just got married three weeks ago.
So what's her favorite accessory?
The answer is simple, she told us. "My wedding ring!"
