Zooey Deschanel releasing a Christmas album

Justin Bieber's not the only one with a holiday album on the way. Actress/singer Zooey Deschanel is getting into the Christmas spirit, reports Pitchfork.

Deschanel’s been collaborating with singer-songwriter M. Ward for a couple years under the moniker She & Him, and the stars have a festive project coming out very soon.

You’ll have plenty of time to sing along with Christmas hits like “Silver Bells” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” because the indie duo is releasing “A Very She & Him Christmas” well ahead of the holidays. The album, featuring 12 holiday classics, will hit stores on October 25.

Zooey, 31, also showcases her vocal talents in The Fabric of Our Lives cotton campaign. And the "New Girl" star has another musical tie: She's married to Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard.

While you were working...

Today's news you might've missed:

  • Good news, Gleeks! Chord Overstreet is in "final talks" to come back to "Glee," starting with the eighth episode. Apparently, "Glee" missed Chord, and Chord missed singing all those Journey songs. Awww. [TVLine]
  • Congratulations are in order for Viola Davis. After announcing she and husband Julius Tennon were going to adopt a baby, Davis' rep confirms to CNN that she has adopted a baby girl named Genesis.
  • Joe Manganiello has forbidden his family - even grandma! Or, especially grandma - from snagging front row seats at his movie "Magic Mike," in which he'll play a stripper named Big Dick Richie (who happens to have a fireman schtick). As for how the character got such an intriguing name, Manganiello says, "There's definitely a scene that will answer those questions."  [L.A. Times]
  • Paris Jackson is breaking down barriers, but not in entertainment: The 13-year-old is the first girl in the history of her school to join the flag football team. [TMZ]
  • This is shaping up to be fairly awesome: Anne Hathaway is joining Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in a movie adaptation of "Les Miserables" as Fantine. The movie's currently slated for a December, 2012 release. [Deadline]

Britney Spears, Jason Trawick get 'Criminal'

After a few teases and a handful of controversy, Britney Spears has tweeted a link to the video for her single "Criminal."

Some in the U.K. were not pleased with her wielding a firearm, but there are more fiery things happening in the clip. After a brief acting interlude (why, yes, Britney, we DO remember "Crossroads"!) and a perfume promo, her real-life man Jason Trawick saves Spears from her awful significant other, and Spears runs off with the criminally-minded Clyde to her Bonnie.

As she croons "Mama I'm in love with a criminal," we see Spears brandish her weapon in a robbery and then find herself in a shower with Trawick. Till the cops come knocking, indeed.

Have you seen the video? What'd you think?

Screenwriter claims 'Hangover 2' copied his story

First there was a lawsuit over the face tattoo in "The Hangover Part II," and now there's a reported suit over the sequel's concept.

According to Entertainment Weekly, an "aspiring screenwriter" by the name of Michael Alan Rubin has filed a lawsuit claiming the summer blockbuster - that would be about $254 million at the domestic box office, to date - ripped off his screenplay treatment.

Rubin, who is representing himself, has reportedly filed the claim against Warner Bros., director Todd Phillips and the film's screenwriters, claiming among other things  copyright infringement, defamation and fraud.

Harry Belafonte looks asleep live on air

Harry Belafonte is such an elegant, dignified and well-respected star that we can't help but feel a little ashamed for giggling at this clip of the actor.

A video is flying around the Web showing Belafonte fast asleep meditating during what was supposed to be a live interview with a Bakersfield, California, television station. Update, 3:58 p.m.: According to Belafonte's rep, the actor wasn't sleeping, he was meditating.

The rep says in a statement, “After weeks of literally hundreds of interviews promoting his HBO documentary, memoir and CD, Mr. Belafonte had an early morning satellite TV tour this past Friday. True to form, there was a technical glitch in the feed to a local station in Bakersfield, California. His earpiece wasn’t working, so he decided to take the time to meditate before the rest of his Day-O. Mr. Belafonte is 84 years young, but sharper and more awake than most who have been interviewing him. Maybe the world would be a better place if more people took a moment to meditate.”

'Dancing With the Stars' goes retro

It's '80s week on "Dancing With the Stars," meaning Monday's episode pledged to honor every adult contemporary radio station in America.

And what better way to do that than by bringing out The Bangles? Lead singer Susanna Hoffs looked great for 52, but she didn't seem sure whether her tunes required singing or spoken word performances.

The actual competition began with Hope Solo, who performed a tango to Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." Finally, someone brought Tommy and Gina's story to the stage! Unfortunately, Hope again let her power get the best of her, making her dance a bit clunky and uneven.
