Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore split

Alt rock fans (and romantics) everywhere are mourning the breakup of Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore.

E! News reports that the Sonic Youth rockers have gone their separate ways after 27 years of marriage.

Though Kim, 58, and Thurston, 53, are breaking up, Sonic Youth remains intact (for now), and they plan to continue their upcoming tour as planned.

"Sonic Youth, with both Kim and Thurston involved, will proceed with its South American tour dates in November," their Matador Records rep said in a statement. "Plans beyond that tour are uncertain. The couple has requested respect for their personal privacy and does not wish to issue further comment."

The musical power couple married in 1984 and have a 17 year-old daughter, Coco. They formed Sonic Youth (with guitarist Lee Ranaldo and later drummer Steve Shelley) in 1980.

I hate the insensitive idiots like the first two posters, who will never know how great Sonic Youth was (and is). It's sad, but I guess it was kind of expected; Fugazi's gone on indefinite, almost definitely permanent hiatus for the last eight years, pretty much everyone else has broken up from the legendary Eighties punk scene... It's sad, but I expected it.

I am really sad to hear this. When people divorce after more than 3 decades together (they were together yrs before marriage) it really makes you wonder if there's any way your own marriage will last.

"Who are these people?" Seriously? Try turning off the radio, and listening to some real music.
