Sean Penn is not a fan of the Tea Party movement.
The actor/activist shared his opinions of the political group on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” - and he didn’t hold back.
During his interview on Friday, Penn implied that Tea Partiers are motivated by racism, and want President Barack Obama out of office because he’s black. "You have what I call the ‘Get the N-word out of the White House party,’ the Tea Party,” said the actor.
Calling the Tea Party a “distraction” from the upcoming presidential election, Penn painted a mental picture of the conservative group’s feelings toward Obama: “At the end of the day, there's a big bubble coming out of their heads, saying, 'Can we just lynch him?’"
Penn isn’t the only celebrity to call the Tea Party racist.
Morgan Freeman told Piers Morgan (on a previous show) that he believes the Tea Party’s mentality is “Screw the country. We're going to do whatever we do to get this black man … outta here." He added that the Tea Party’s opposition to Obama is “a racist thing.”
According to a poll by the Hollywood Reporter, Freeman’s comments may have affected ticket sales of his current movie, “A Dolphin Tale.”
Alan Cumming has also criticized the group on “Piers.” Last month he accused the movement of being motivated by "homophobia and racism."
On the other side, celebrities like Jon Voight, Donald Trump and Ted Nugent support the Tea Party.
