Helen Mirren's 'contribution to ecology'

Helen Mirren tried to convince herself into motherhood earlier in her life, but at 66, the actress says she doesn't regret not having kids.

“It's not that I don't love children,” Mirren, who wed director Taylor Hackford in 1997, told the Guardian. “They are funny, and I just love them, but I never wanted to have them. I really tried to want it at one point … I thought maybe I should. But I never convinced myself.”

The Oscar winner has been steadily working in the entertainment industry since the late ‘60s, and she told the paper that procreation has never been on her agenda.

“There are far too many people in the world,” she joked. “It is my contribution to ecology.”
