[Editor's Note: If you haven't watched the last on air episode of "All My Children," steer clear of this post.]
ABC's "All My Children" stayed true to its soapy roots all the way up to its last on-air minute. Fans of the long-running series had this day marked on calendars since ABC announced they were giving the soap the boot in favor of a new food and lifestyle talk show, "The Chew," earlier this year.
Before the final on-air hour began, fan favorite cast member Susan Lucci, series creator Agnes Nixon and executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers all stopped by "The View" for a special hour-long send-off.
After thanking the ladies of "The View" for the tribute episode, Lucci remarked that it was a "celebration of a wonderful show. This is the building where we shot 'All My Children' most of those 41 years. It’s an emotional time, a very happy time, [we have] so much to be grateful for."
Cameron Mathison, a.k.a. Ryan Lavery to "AMC" fans, is one of the cast members who is moving with the show to the Web, thanks to production company Prospect Park. "'All My Children' is literally part of my heart, which is why I was so quick to sign up for online," Mathison said on "The View."
It's been reported that Lucci has declined an offer to go on with the show...and perhaps that's why today's episode ended the way it did. As the minutes ticked by to the end of the program on Friday, viewers saw J.R. fire a gun into a party at the Chandlers' place. Of course, we don't know what happened, because what's a soap opera without a dramatic cliffhanger?
As viewer and Twitter user @itsADELEee describes it, "All My Children ends with a bang. literally. i love how all the goodbye montages were like in the previous eps this week. and then boom!"
Wrote @PunditOnPoint, "All My Children has aired its last network episode. Despite the cliches, I enjoyed it. AMC is headed for the internet. End of an era."
Not all fans were happy with the way things ended, though.
"Really?" inquired user @mnfairman. "That All My Children ending was disappointing." Another fan concurred, albeit more strongly: "IS THIS HOW "ALL MY CHILDREN" REALLY GONNA END IT?? I AM BEYOND PISSED! *Throws TV out the window.*"
Did you catch the end of "AMC"? If so, what did you think? Will you be watching it online?
I heard All My Children is coming back on t.v. WHEN? I can't wait. I've watched it since april 1970

What you don't know is we are not watching anyways tuned into other soaps Isn't that oh forget the english teachers out there ain't that sooooooo sad. My heart does not cry for you abc got what you deserved and do I care about you? Sure as much as you did us and took soaps off just to save a buck Are we saving money now? Like I said ha ha ha!
chew ratings are in the toilet fluuuush! Same with the revolution! Fluuuuuuush!
I truly miss the break I enjoyed while watching AMC over a period of 30 years! The show was my "me time" and nothing else on TV is worth the time! Please reconsider!!!!!
PLEASE BRING BACK ALL MY CHILDREN, IT WAS THE BEST SOAP ON, NOW I AM STUCK WITH OTHER SOAPS THAT ARE NOT OF THE CALIBER OF ALL MY CHILDREN, I WILL BE WAITING.
Anybody know when the online version of All My Children will begin? I can't wait as I have been watching this show since day one (pre-VCR when one had to play hookey from school in order to watch!)
WELL I AM VERY UPSET OVER THE FACT THAT THIS CHEW CRAP WHICH IS NOT INTERESTING AT ALL, TO ME IT IS BORING. ALL MY CHILDREN WAS LIKE FAMILY TO ME. I LOVED THAT SHOW, AND FOR IT TO HAVE BEEN CANCELLED WAS A BIG MISTAKE. BECAUSE I WILL NEVER WATCH ABC AGAIN, AND I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE AGREE. WHEN IM DEPRESSED THAT SHOW PERKED ME UP,THAT SHOW AND ONE LIFE TO LIVE WAS MY ONLY THING I LOVED TO WATCH ON ABC THE MOST. YOU PEOPLE REALLY HURT THE FANS ALOT WHEN YOU DID THAT, I WOULD TAKE THE CHEW CRAP OFF, AND PUT OUR SOAPS BACK ON WHERE THEY SHOULD BE. THE CHEW IS BORING I HATE IT WITH A PASSION. SERIOUSLY PLEASE PUT OUR SOAPS BACK ON MAKE THE ABC VIEWERS HAPPY AGAIN. AND TAKE THAT BORING CHEW BACK OFF OR PUT IT ON ANOTHER CHANNEL. THATS MY OPINION
i liked the all my children soap. but if the show couldnt continue on the air why not online. that finale bang , i believe should not been the finale...i mean what happens to JR ..was he caught? did he killed melissa? erica with Jack?? there were alot of unsolved lives. i will miss this series.
I just want to know when i'll be able to watch more
What was the storyline for Sarah Michelle Gellar? Saw her in hospital saying she was Erica's daughter, then I missed the rest! Can anyone tell me?
BTW, the Sarah Michelle Gellar cameo was very clever. It was corny, but clever at the same time. "I saw vampires before it was cool" lol
Well, yes it was contrived, but they kind of had to. But then that last cliffhanger with JR maybe killing Erica. Wow.
BTW, I won't ever, ever watch The Chew or whatever that is called. Never.
Watched the soap from day 1. Followed thru the years...disappointed sometimes, but always enjoyed it as a whole. The ending was predictable for a soap. Faired well the only thing was I wished JR had seen Uncle Stewart first.
I think it stinks .whats next General Hospital. i will go crazy .i have cancer and between kemo treatments thats all i have. i dont have a computer to see it on line. all i have is my phone and cant watch anything on it so it dose suck for some stupid food or talk show to mucc of that stuff now thanks for nothing.
I started watching AMC around the Bianca rape storyline. I lost a good five years because of military service. Anyone who was a fan watched for a reason, when I found out the show was being canceled I looked to see how these storylines would rap up. The last week went well to me right up until the last episode. I have never been a fan of the cliffhangers, but I am looking forward to the web version. All My Children has been around with some people for a lifetime and the only thing that really gets to me is that it was cut because its more costly to produce than some talk show, some things just cant be replaced.
I was hoping the oldest son would finally come down from the attic.
I think it great than before.
So will there be an online AMC
Erica's Scarlett O'Hara ending...I liked. The gunshot...I didn't. The rest was fine and I could've lived with Erica's story ending that way. Then you're left to your own assumptions and a discussion for years. The gunshot was a ploy to get people watching online. I won't have to. Someone will spoil the outcome the next day or moments later and it won't be a big deal.
I've watched AMC off and on since it debuted in 1970. I'm sorry to see it go, but I won't follow it to the internet. Hopefully a cable channel will pick it up and we'll have another chance to see more of Pine Valley and its residents. I thought the "Who did JR shoot?" ending was cute, but I can understand why viewers more dedicated than myself would find it anticlimactic.
NO WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back in the 1970s all us girls in school, soap operas were all the thing (there was no other channel except ABC). Then we grew up, had careers, raised a family. The soaps are so immorally filthy today I wish they'd ALL go off the air. Even at the age of 49, I'd rather watch pre-K shows on PBS to them.
Glad it was cancelled, the show was crap for quite a while. The lesbian story was disgraceful. This show loved to take straight people and turn them gay but never the other way around, I got tired of that and the fact that they were constantly taking kids from their parents and giving them to idiots.
Show abc totally boycot the time slot. Show them how stupid, stupid, stupid they are. Especially to cheat at the end.
the cast of this soap opera are all vampires
Well, I have been watching since it started in 1970, just a kid. My friend and I would make lunch for her mom, who would walk home for lunch from work. We'd all eat and watch – it was half an hour then. I had much higher hopes for a final hour full of clips and memories, since it's all about the nostalgia for me. I am worried about some of the writers of comments on this board. Really bad grammar and spelling. Wow. Please use this time of no AMC to educate yourself. I swear it's the best use of your time now. P.S. Long live Donna, Chuck and Billy Clyde.
As an AMC fan for 40yrs I was pleased with the "cliffhanger". It seemed fitting since we don't know what's up with PP.
I watched my first and only episode 41 years ago.
I never saw a single episode but I tuned in to the finale to see what all the fuss was about. I gotta tell you that I'm super glad I didn't waste my time on this trash!
Bite Me. Also, please put a bag on Frons' head. He's an idiot.
Loved how they ended Jack and Erica... he put up with the BS for far too long. The shooting, on the other hand... that just stunk.
I sure would have liked a final long credits, for everyone for all the years, sort of like they did at times on the Christmas show. Not being a Chirstmas person, and working the holidays, I both enjoyed and felt pathetic that my Christmas was AMC!
I agree that a pan back showing everyone still living their lives in PV after a good montage of the past would have been a much classier ending.
It's sad to me but I think entertainment is evolving. I found http://emaileavesdropper.com It's not a replacement but it's a fun distraction.
i am handicaped and all my children was part of my life/family i will follow the show on the web go greenlee and bring back haley!!!!
I'm okay with the cliffhanger ending, as it gives viewers something to look forward to when the show debuts online in January. What I did NOT like was that the cast and crew were denied a full-length end credit roll. Instead the credits were shown as a crawl below ... you guessed it ... an ad for the frikken Chew. What a way to disrespect cast, crew, and fans alike after 41 years.
I used to watch AMC in the 70's and early 80's. I did watch the last episode and in some ways it was like ".. I missed nothing these 30 so years". The on-line version will never work, the demographics dont support it but if I was a fan I would push to have new episodes air on the Soap Opera Channel. And while the highly paid Susan Lucci types may not return having it on cable can make it more racier!
At least they didn't play Journey's "don't stop believing"
So sad to see it end, but it was fabulous- how else do you end a series about such a strong character!? She started the 41 yr drama putting on make-up refusing to study, spent the following years being and getting everything, she left by chasing her dreams to her death. Classic soap. and of course there is the open ending that she can come back a zombie in a prime time movie. Does anyone really expect anything less?
What the heck was that! HORRIBLE! If you are ending a show supposedly for good.. WHY would you leave it on a cliff hanger??? I think the ending showed a rush to end the show. Forgive me but the Gone with the Wind hint at the end was horrible and really out of character for Erica Kane and Jack. Almost like some other writer wrote the ending. I think it would have been better if babe was brought back too and all would have fallen into place and Pine Valley would have died in peace...or...what a minute...is David bring it back to life too? Ending did not give the show justice. Personally the writers shot themselves in the foot on this one.
ummmm the show isnt "supposedly ending for good".... its going online mid-jan 2012. wow people really need to do their research in this forum before posting weird comments
hey, be happy...it could have ended with Erica waking up from a really BAD dream and the whole series was just a dream...all 10 marriages...etc :)
If Hillary Clinton were President, and we were not at war, AMC would still be on the air!
Why aren't you all watching Days?
I must have been watching the wrong SOAP, The show I watched did not end with a bang, not even a pop! For a SOAP that has been on 40 years the final episode was terrible. When it ended I asked my wife, is that it? Wasn't my favorite show but intertaining through the years, but a terrible way to end.
TOTALLY Agree ...that is exactly the way I felt..."Is that it?" That is what I said out loud in my livingroom when it ended.
I felt like I had wasted my time for an hour. Horrible.
That's pretty classic: lousy production, bad acting, and bad writing exemplified by the fact that they copied their ending from "The Sopranos". That's 41 years of FAIL.
So you been watching how many years? And you did so because of bad acting, bad production and writing? Don't tell me you didn't watch it, or wouldn't even be here in this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shame on ABC! AMC fans deserved something better than the ending it did! If that was a way to lure them to the online version, they are sadly mistaken, because it won't work! It pizzed me off so much that I won't watch it! I hadn't planned on it in the first place, but I won't now for sure! It was a horrible ending! Horrible! Shame on ABC!
They should have had a nuke go off and put everyone out of their misery. Now THAT would have nee a bang-up ending.
Terrible ending to a "once" superior show. It wasn't a surprise that Erica thought only of what she wanted and was offended when Jack said "Sayonara". Never once over the years, has Erica thought of someone else other than herself. For once in her life, why couldn't she have just given in. She declared her undying love for him but at the end, the love of herself was stronger than for Jack. As for the big "bang", I guess we'll see a recap when this show hits YouTube early next year. I think JR was trying to shoot Melissa but got either Erica or his dad by mistake. Whether they were seriously hit or not, I really don't care as I wont' be watching the show any longer when it returns.
Who the hell cares?
would love to see the continuation of this great show on line, however, i don't reside in the US therefore, along with the rest of the non-American fans, i will be excluded, as we were from catching any missed episodes
Ummm nope Ive been watching online for a few months now and Im non-US.
Im sure there will be a way, come mid-Jan 2012.
I took the day off from work today to watch the final episode of All My Children. I have been watching for 35 years. To the delight of loyal fans, it looked like the families would come together to celebrate Stewart's return. Adam proposes to Brooke and she says "yes." Adam gets his home back (a gift from Brooke). Angie can see, Tad & Dixie are together. Everyone is happy except for the troubled J.R. and Jackson Montgomery. There is also the question of who is the final person that David brought back to life. We want it to be Babe, but David won't tell a pleading Dixie. Jack refuses to follow Erica to Hollywood–her dream since she was a little girl. After 24 years, Jack is following after her no more. As Erica rushes after Jack to win him back, J.R. fires his gun. He is aiming at his father, Adam, just as Erica runs in front of Adam. We are left asking who did J.R. shoot–himself, Erica...? The final scene was very disappointing!! Erica deserved her happy ending. I sure hope One Life to Live ends much better!! The View did a great job today in their tribute to All My Children. Thank you Agnes Nixon!!
My favorite of the finale was the scenes with Adam and his brother. But I have to agree with the other comments.. I was a little disappointing with the other scenes.
I started watching ALL MY CHILDREN. since 1980 and it was great to see Jenny and Greg, Angie and Jessie on
Use to be a huge AMC fan faded off through the last few years but tuned in now and then, did however want to see the last episode, It was ok, I liked Tad's speech, I understand AMC idea they really want you to continue to watch the show online so they gave you a huge cliff hanger, I will be truely sad when OLTL ends, that totally burned me, and if GH ends I will have to be one of those crazy fans that expresses my views.. I enjoy DVR my shows and watching them when I come home from work.. I will say FLAT OUT, I disappointed by the network by putting on another talk/ food show, sorry won't DVR you.. well good luck soapers.
I loved these last few weeks. I thought the writing was better than usual. I loved the last show, especially Jack doing the "frankly, I don't give a damn" piece. I will definately watch when the show is streamed on the internet. Keep it centered around David's antics, it keeps it more interesting. I felt a distinct lack of chemistry between Zach and his wife despite the lovey dovey script. Maybe a move to the younger members would revive the show's energy, Madison and Scott, and the young Hubbards. Anyway, yes, I'll still watch.
The death of television is nigh. Soon all you'll get when you turn on the boob tube is "reality tv".
Ireally liked AMC it was great to see Adam and his brother return and that Angie was able to see again I was hoping that people would see how David Hayward was so dedicated to his work and how wonderful it would be if we could actually have our love ones return that would be amazing perhaps there are ways in the future which this may happen certainly would be fantastic who knows with all the technology today. I will miss AMC and hope the Chew is a flop. Can't wait for the online episodes
The show will not survive on line.Ratings are down on free Tv.
Most of the good actors won't be back.
P.S. Susan Lucci fianally got her mercy emmy back then, but she is one of the worst actresses onthe sopa opera scene.
I liked the ending. The thing is ... it ended like that to get you to watch the webisodes when they hit the internet. I know I will be watching and streaming it to my tv. It's been nice seeing the dead brought back as silly as that is.... and I loved seeing clips from past episodes and people who have come and gone and past away through the years.. It is sad that All My Children was cancelled and I am not happy with that at all nor with them cancelling One Life To live. Who wants to watch ANOTHER food show thats taking its place?... we have the food network channel for that. I think it was a dumb move to take these soaps off during the day. I wonder if they expect every loyal fan that was watching amc to watch the chew instead? I know I won't! If the ratings were low with amc they will be much lower when the Chew takes it s place. Dumb move!!!
Seriously...who would want to watch a show called "The Chew"??? Might as well call it "The Turd"
I am proud to say I have never watched one episode of this (or any) soap opera. Life is too short to spend time on such banal trash. Read a book, people! Take this "cancellation" as your cue to finally get a life.
Instead of who shot J.R.,it's who did J.R. shoot?
Well I must have missed the BiG BANG, I kept watching Jr. point the gun, but never saw he fire the gun. I will admit I haven't been watching AMC because of all the new characters they kept bringing in. I watched mainly to see the old cast members. I was sorry I watched it. Although I did get to see some of the old cast members, I certainly didn't care of Erica's part. I think it stunk! Especially the way it ended. I thought the ending part was stolen from Gone With The Wind, if you can remember the way that ended in the movie. Like they were trying to imitate it. GWTW, not very original if you ask me. Sorry I watched. Another thing I was hoping they could have a just a flashback of Kate and Palmer. Sure was a waste of time.
I thought the ending was cool. I was kinda expecting that journey song to start playing any second. The same one that played in the sopranos finale ending "dont stop beliving" .thats what the ending reminded me of.simalar endings.also if erica comes back alive i definitaly see kit and erica having a love affair. I saw flirting between them. Also i will be tuning in to see jacob young on his return to bold and the beautiful sept 26 since watching him on amc he now is my fave soap actor .i hope he plays a bad guy on there too.i also enjoyed david hayward character he sure is hot and an awesome actor.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was All My Children! It ended as it began- and you wonder what will happen next. It was everything I wanted it to be!
I THOUGHT IT WAS AN AWESOME ENDING... THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE ACTORS...FOR ALL THE MEMORIES...
BUT THE CLIFFHANGER...MEANS THAT THEY'LL (ALL MY CHILDREN) WILL BE BACK!!!!
..WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO "THE CHEW"... GO TO ANOTHER CHANNEL / ANOTHER TIME...
I was so glad that Stuart was brought back to life. Stuart was always my favorite. To me, Susan Lucci and David Canary ARE AMC. Thanks for the lifetime of memories.
I MYSELF IS VERY ANGRY THAT THEY CANCELLED AMC.I'VE WATCHED SINCE MY EARLY TEENAGE YEARS. LOVED EVEY SHOW. AND NOW IN MY 4O'S I HAVE WATCHED IT EVERY DAY. AND NOW THERE PUTTING ON THE
THAT STUPIED THE CHEW. THEY SHOULD PUT IT ON THE FOOD NETWORK OR THE COOKING CHANNEL.I'M VERY ANGRY WITH ABC.I THINK THEY SHOULD TAKE THE VIEW OFF THE AIR & BRING BACK AMC. PLEASE PLEASE
BRING BACK ALL MY CHILDREN. CUZ ALL MY CHILDREN ROCKS!! HOW DARE YOU TAKE AMC OFF THE AIR. WHAT
BOUT THE FANS FEELINGS. DOES ANY BODY CARE BOUT OUR FEELINGS HUH. THAT STUIPED SHOW THE CHEW
My first reaction was – really? But then as I thought about it, how else should a soap end? Shouldn't it end the way it went on for all those years...melodramatic cliff hangers. It was good enough for the Sopranos to leave unanswered questions. Plus the days leading up to the finale did provide closure on many stories/relationships for those who wanted that and won't follow the show online.
Reality TV killed soaps – why pay actors high salaries, sets, costumes, writers, etc. when there are any number of "housewives" of wherever or Jersey shore trash that will parade their own melodrama on TV for far less in the hopes of endorsements and other "personal brand" opportunities.
I will miss AMC despite having grown weary of some of the story telling in the past few years. The View focusing back on the 80's stories of jenny and Greg and Angie and Jessie reminded me of when AMC was great – or maybe just took me back to my own glory days which felt good. Good luck to all that were part of AMC at the end – I might try and catch it online.
QUIT BE SO JUDGEMENTAL YOUR NOT GOD ANY OF YOU
I didn't watch the show but I know it had a big following. No one I know wants another cooking show, we're sick of them. Definately a Turn the TV off momment when the cooking show airs. For me it's when ANY "reality" show airs. I have better ways to waste my time.
Good riddance to this drawn out, drippy show for women who live vicariously!
I will miss amc, it was always my break from my house work, with enough time after to begin my late afternoon duties.
Like getting the beer cold for when your husband gets home.
a boring, lousy show, but has a good ending.
BOYCOTT THE CHEW!!!
I watched and thought it was a good ending.having Susan Lucci being the possible victim of JR's gunshot was fitting. One of the longest cast members finally being killed off..its better than the hugs and kisses ending..
Agreed. And Susan Lucci IS THE longest running actress on AMC.
It couldn't have been worse than the way The Sopranos ended
Is it wrong that I hope the woman David Hayward is keeping is Jenny Gardner? After 30 years, Jenny and Greg are still the greatest couple in AMC history!
I,have not, watched soap opreas in years. And,you know, after awhile, you get used to it.Find, something else to.do,I did.I,take up needework, cooking, and baking. Those, are my hobbies;now if you all get find a hobby or two that would be great. JoAnn Bartolomew
.....then you will probably really like the Spew :-)
What a bad finale! I was sure that my dvr had stopped working because it was so abrupt. No credits, nothing!! Fans deserved better!
Far from thrilled about the ending, and I really don't see The Chew lasting long at all. Fellas, is this payback for the NBA and NFL lockout? Geesh. Whatever it is, we're sorry!
I only clicked on this because of the word "bang"
Never was an AMC fan; however, I remember when ANOTHER WORLD ended. It was one of my favorite soaps and its final hour was horrendous because they simply tried to cram far too much in it. It sounds like that is what AMC did, which baffles me since they are continuing online.
no, what happened is that they didnt do enough... because theres only so much 40min can cram in... and it was done on purpose since its going online in 2012...
I've watched AMC off and on since Jenny and Jesse hung out on the fire escape in Hells Kitchen. The show had gotten so hard to watch that when they announced it was ending I thought of it as euthanasia, but they rallied a bit in the last months. And then they did this. What a cheap shot (pun intended). I sort of get the Gone with the Wind parallel, as Susan Lucci was certainly a modern day Scarlett, but the crazed J.R. subplot and unknown reanimated female? Dumb. It totally spoiled what should have been a warmly nostalgic ending. I would have been far happier if they could have just pulled back the camera from a Pine Valley gathering and left everyone happily pursuing their lives. This ending makes me less likely to watch it online, and somehow I don't think that was their goal.
Susan Lucci! Your what dreams are made of!
You and the rest of the Bon Bon eating fat, lonley cat ladies who watched this tr1pe need to get off your lazy a55es now and do some housework."
I am a non Bon Bon eating, skinny, not lonely dog lady who loves watching soaps while at work from home, not sitting on my a....
You , on the other hand have nothing to do but write comments on a story about soaps that mostly women watch. Also, The cooking shows like The Chew are what the fat people will be watching
Can't wait to tune in on the net! When?
mid-January 2012! :) glad you will be watching, spread the word!!!! long live AMC.
@ Glenn. Billy Ray Tuggle gave me the creeps! Loved to h*te him, though.
Billy Clyde Tuggle.
I grew up watching AMC. This final week has been nostalgic but the last episode...not so much. I didn't like it. I am still offended that ABC promoted that disaster-in-the-making lame replacement show. Eric Kane might be over-cooked but that food show already makes me sick.
I did not like the ending like most people. However, I have watched All My Children since it first came on and will miss it so much. I believe ABC made a huge mistake and the CHEW will not be on the air for long. All My Children had a lot of fans and ABC will regret canceling our soap.
It was disjointed and the acting forced–but how much can you fully flesh out in 40 minutes of screen time? But the big bang ending was a strategic masterpiece. We won't know "Who was shot by JR" until the web episodes, and the producers can put off deciding on the victim until one of the actors does not agree to do the web episodes (Susan Lucci probably). A whole other story arc is stll open in that Babe could still be alive ("B" on the bracelet, other undead person not named), but Dr. David suggests the other person is someone viewers would not want alived. Brilliant way to glue us to the web and open up other story lines.
YES YES YES
DID not like the ending today at all. We dont know who got shot and we dont know who the second
person is that David has in a facility someplace. Hated seeing JR so unhappy and bitter. Ive watched
this show for 34 years. It was about time...that Jackson tell Erica how selfish she is !! Lucci always
great in this role. No I did not like the ending though. Sorry.
its a cliffhanger for a reason- wasnt supposed to be wrapped up because its continuing in the near future. geez people, get a computer and watch online, its 2011!
Did you watch the show? No? Then keep your ignorant trap shut, Stupid.
I hated the ending and I thought it was not fair to all of us who have watched this show for 41 years. yes I do have a life but I did enjoy a little fun after a hard day of work and going home to see what was up in Pine Velley. I well miss all my friends on All My Children. I don't know if it well make it to the web. IT IS NOT GOING TO BE THE SAME. I well not watch the Chew I hope abc bombs with yet another cooking show I guesss they must think we are all stuped and can't run our owen lifes so they put s..t like the chew on.
I have watched AMC for well over30 years and have truly enjoyed every episode. Some have been better than others but I have grown up with most of AMC and they are somewhat like family. I think ABC is making a big mistake by ending a very good program and with so many cooking shows on cable who wants to watch another one. I will be anxiously awaiting AMC on the internet and will not be watching The Chew or much on ABC. AMC thanks for all you have done and please continue on the internet... Looking forward to seeing it..
They should have had every living person that was ever on the show. Billy Ray Tuggle (1990) was my favorite character. I wonder what happened to that actor?
He is married to Christine Baranski....was hoping to see him at the emmys the other night...
It was Billy Clyde Tuggle.
41years and that's best they could come up with realy it sucked were was the emmy win writting at.hey I think the the last show should have been live.question why was bianic@mirissa not invited.who tex them, come hey thought david was in jail?how did he get out.and what is point of shooting someone when david can bring everyone back to life.
@peels- Ummmm obviously JR texted them... and you obviously didnt watch the show- Adam paid David's bail because he saved Stuart.
and to your "what is the point inquiry: it is a freakin soap... LOL.
Well, I hope they used a c*nd*m
It was great!! When the Chew crashes and burns it will be easy to pick up where they left off
Have Dustin Hoffman come out and pull his wig off and tell all these women that none of it was real, these were actors in made up stories all this time. Then you have a bang. And the last scene will be a bang flag dropping from a prop gun.
No...having Bob Newhart wake up with another crazy dream would've been wild. :-)
one could argue that Shakespeare invented the concept of the soap opera. his plays are rife with love triangles, dysfunctional families, apparitions, unrequited love, cross dressing, crazy characters, monologues, plot twists, tragedy, statistically impossible coincidences... these are the timeless themes that will live on. hoping that artistic truth trumps this fad of reality tv.
Of course, Shakespeare wrote dramas that were so good, had such insight into human condition that they are still being produced and discussed today. This show, like all soap opera, will not be viewed or placed in any such esteem by future generations, and rightly so. It is trash.
It was a good cliffhanger ending. It must have been tough for the writers, as they still don't know who's moving on to the internet. I'll be watching online. Hopefully Guiding Light will make it there as well.
what an insult to eveyone who has watched AMC. It's just as well that the show has ended, if this is the kind of crap we would have gotten in the future...I guess it really is time for A.Dixon to retire!!!!!!
I really enjoyed All My Children and will not watch The Chew. Hopefully it will come back on the internet soon. I always watched the shows I missed on the internet any. The people at ABC are numbskulls.
Is anyone else embarrassed that they can't remember a character whose name starts with B, who "died" and could be David's last patient? Got to find an archives page, when I have lots and lots of spare time, lol. ABC, I will not be watching the Chew. These shows make me feel inadequate because I am not creative and clever ALL THE FREAKING TIME as I take care of my family. How many hints can one person use in one day?
When you say "out with a bang" I really, REALLY, thought you meant something a bit more arousing and salacious.
Forget AMC, "The Edge of Night" was the best soap in TV history!!!!
I so agree! Great writing, great acting, fabulous show in 30 minutes every day.
Dallas, Sopranos, Gone with the Wind – all were parodied in this ending. I prefer this over some sappy farewell.
It was great to see so many members of the cast return during the final week including Adam/ Stuart, Brooke, Jamie, Babe, Joe, Ruth and so on.
Just sorry that Palmer and Phoebe were not featured in the final week. Those two were definitely among the best characters during the AMC run. They dominated decades of AMC.
It was clear that Agnes Nixon was in control the final run-up to today. The characters regained what made them beloved including Erica's egoism and Adam's unsympathetic father routine.
What is clear is the collosal idiocy of Charles Pratt and other writers who could not cross a t on an Agnes Nixon script. they had no understanding of the genre, the characters, or the audience. It was good to have the final scripts handled by the mistress of soap operas herself, Agnes Nixon. Some people are irreplaceable.
MA – I hate to be the one to break it to you..the actors who so wonderfully portrayed Palmer, Phoebe, Myrtle, Mona and the original Ruth are no longer with us!!
@Judi, I think she meant featured as in having flashbacks to those people. Not their reincarnated corpses.
MA – Totally agree with you. All week – even all month – I have been wanting more flashbacks and missed seeing Phoebe and Palmer as well as Cliff and Nina – another classic soap love story. I really expected a Brooke vs Erica montage as well. But I enjoyed the parody and almost laughing at themselves with the cliff hanger ending.
You folks all NEED TO GET A LIFE!!!
Hopefully, without Sal!
so doyou. now go back to hell
They should have made it end with all of Davids miracle patients dying because his treatment didn't quite work as he thought and they all start dropping like flies at a party, like the Robin Williams movie where the patients came out of the coma but then went back in....my 2 cents.
Like the idea!!
I loved the ending. I have been watching for 35 years. I loved the "soapy" ending. Tads speech was wonderful, very moving. I will not watch The Chew. Thanks all at AMC for years of memories and fun, you will all be missed by many very loyal fans, what a great legacy!
The ending, it seems to me, left us hanging and wondering what would happen next with some problems unresolved. You have to wait for the next episode to find out what will happen next. . . just in case it will be aired in the future elsewhere. Neat!
Im happy with the ending because it makes me believe AMC is coming back. Cant wait!!
I bet you believe in Santa Claus too.
I saw the very first episode of All My Children and remained a fan till now. I was sooo upset with the ending. what an insult to long term fans like myself. I don't want to and won't watch it on line, so I'll never know who the Lady is that Hayward still has hidden away or if Erica is dead. It would have been nice if they could have just sat for five or ten minutes and talked to the viewers about the show ending on tv and perhaps have shown a compilation of scenes from the beginning to the end. Maybe even thank the fans. What a shame! Perhaps the owe us a special to make up for this insulting end.
It was reported on the soap opera news sites that they did, indeed, give us a happy ending with the final episode but since it was sold to Prospect Place and has hope of surviviing on the net, they had to have Jacob Young (JR) come back and re-shoot the final show, leaving us with a cliff-hanger.....
I hope ABC's ratings go down the tubes after dropping All My Children. Who in the heck is going to watch ANOTHER food show? I won't be watching. It sucks. ABC, I hope you totally go off the air. Shame on you for dropping AMC after 41 years. I started watching it from the beginning and they were part of my family. How dare you??? After all the "flack" you have received from all the fans, you should definitely put it back on the air. And it's just a "money" thing with ABC. I sure hope no one watches Chew next week. It would serve you right. Signed, one angry fan.
No Chew for sure. I hope no one watches either. I don't even like watching the commercials. Shame on ABC! Liked the ending, but hope it does go to web for sure. We'll show them who the real fans are!!
Kay – Right you are my friend ! ABC started receiving the "flack" immediately back in April, when they made the announcement and it continues to this day..maybe even more so if you have a look at the 'discuss' section at The Spew.
There is not even one positive comment on their site re the new show and many hundreds of wishes for an early demise.
Each show (AMC & OLTL) generate appx. 2.5 million viewers, that's 7 million loyal viewers that ABC has told to take a flying
leap. Now it's our turn.
Boring!! Good Bye!!!
Mary, if its so boring to you–why are you even on this site?
The ending was pathetic. I have been a soap fan for 20 years and will greatly miss this show and promise that I will not even bother with the Chew. Sorry ABC, I no longer have a reason to tune in. Bye.
Putting in on the net is a good idea for the younger generation but it's just torture for my 82 yr old mother. It will be on and she won't be able to see it. I'll have to download the episodes to dvd and send them to her or something. Poor dear called me in tears that they ended with a cliffhanger. After 41 yrs these people are like her neighbors.
And it was COLD of ABC to advertise "The Spew" during the last episode.
Boo – Hiss!
Grace – It's my understanding that there is some kind of device that is available, or will be, so that the shows on the internet can be brought up on a computer and then connected to your t.v. Will probably take someone who is 'tech savvy' so my suggestion is to contact the grandkids to help grandma out !
Awwe, I really feel for your mother. My grandparents watched the show until they passed, they would have been devastated. I hope you are able to provide the show to her that meant so much. On my side, I used to watch it all the time and then working got in the way and I had no way to record it then when I could watch it they had changed so many charactors on it, it was really hard to figure out who was who. but I still thing that AMC and OLTL was truly the best two soaps on TV! They will be missed, I will hope I can watch it on my android phone. That would be great!
Truly a disappointing finale. I was OK with not knowing who the 2nd person David "revived" is but a gunshot and fade to black just plain sucked and was a slap in the face to fans old and new. If Susan Lucci is worth her salt, she will say NO to the web version of the show. She's better than that.
Read the article – she already did...
Everything I've read says Susan hasn't signed on (yet) but she hasn't commented publicly. To me that means she's biding her time either for more $$$ or something else as part of the deal. I'd rather see her ride off into the sunset and show up somewhere else on TV–like in primetime. I don't think she's even done a Law & Order episode guest appearance yet?!?! LOL
I agree completely.....what a slap in the face to everyone who watched AMC.
I LOVED IT! I especially liked the Gone With the Wind/Dallas-esque ending. It's a Soap, for heaven's sake. A bunch of good stories to the end. KUDOS TO EACH AND EVERY ACTOR AND WRITER, AND TO AGNES.
Having watched it from day one, except when working, I will miss this show terribly. It forced me to have a cup of tea at one pm everyday. I loved the actors, stories, fashions, home staging and most of all the social issues we sometimes forget to think about. I once met Susan L. at Saks 5th downstairs in Garden City while we were both buying baby clothes. She was a class act.
I agree very much with you. I have watched AMC since it started, sometimes not exactly liking every actor/actress but I ALWAYS enjoyed the time of day it played. Just the right time to take a break, have lunch and relax.
The stories were not always believable–but it was fiction, WHAT DO THESE COMPLAINERS WANT?? If you read a Novel, do you expect it always to true to life??
I will miss the cast and the enjoyable hour. Thank you to all the people involved that worked hard to entertain us.
Susan got her daytime emmy a few years back. It would have been completely sad had she not and this thing ended.
Of course they had to leave you hanging in some regard, what else would there be to come back to when it appears online? And at least it wasn't all just a dream like the Dallas season opener back in the day.....
I just don't understand how yet another food show is going to impress daytime viewers. The Chew should be on the Food Network or Cooking channel and not on regular network stations. One of the promo's I saw for The Chew has Chef Symon saying to put pastrami on your burger instead of bacon. Isn't this country fat enough?
I watched this show for 35 yrs and this was the ending they gave me. Shame on AMC. What a terrible ending.
Hi Debbie"'....They had writers forTHAT ending.....seems like the writers left befor the cast Just what we need, another cooking show-–hope ABC chokes on it.
Watched 3 minutes of the Chew, said eww, and switched to news on WGN. Nothing can take the place of AMC ABC has lost a viewer.!
My grandaughter was the baby (16 days old at taping) in the opening scene of the last episode- She was a great actress!
Your grand child is very cute!!!! I don't generally pay attention to babies but I certainly noticed her. I hope she will have a blessed life.
More evidence to dispute the idea that all babies are cute.
Gee I was hoping it would be of the "gang" variety.
AMC will truly be missed and am happy to know it is going to be continued on the internet that is what I will be watching, WILL NOT BE WATCHING the CHEW but AMC on the INTERNET ,,, the network made a big mistake and anyone who thinks that REALITY TV is better than the soaps they will see,,, We live reality the soaps allow you to take a break .....
I just remember some of the incredible babes on that show. Eva La Rue comes to mind.... /Homer drool face
There are those who don't like soaps...OK, that's your choice...does it really serve any purpose, other than to rub salt in a wound, to post ugly & nasty remarks? Try being a little sensitive to another person's feelings.
Evel – Can't get off the couch just yet.....have to finish my bonbons first...you knuckle-dragging neanderthal !
Soap Opera's were the hits of the 70's through 90's. Times have changed, tv has changed. Change is good and it's time to move on!
Oh yeah, change is good............ puting on ANOTHER stupid talk, learn, discuss inane show is really a change! The View, The Chew: PU. We are going to become a nation of twits, knowing not much about many things. At least allow us some form of fantesy daytime TV.
Soaps have been around a lot longer than the 70's & 80's. They started back on radio, I believe in the 40's...maybe 50's. I can remember my mom watching As the World Turns on tv in the late 50's....the soaps were only 15 minutes long at that time! It would be interesting to have them go full circle back to radio...and have a soap radio channel on XM. Then you really use your imagineation!
Well I wish the viewers of As the World Turns and Guiding Light were given a choice to watch online.... So many people watched these shows, myself included..... In protest... I have not watched even one day of daytime T.V. since the last episodes aired.... There is nothing to watch... It's all garbage... Now AMC is also getting the axe... It's pitiful... Taking off good programming and replacing it with garbage like The Chew???? Spare me... These producers and networks made GRAVE mistakes.... See what the turnover of these bogus shows will be.....Flash in the pans....Should have stuck with what worked...
Yeah I quit watching after ATWT went off the air last September until the last couple of months of All My Children. I refuse to watch Let's Make a Deal and The Talk. Definitely won't be watching The Chew (thought that sounded like a stupid name the first time I heard about it and it still does) either.
I agree so much with your comment.. I never watched soaps but when pregnant with my first daughter who will be 40 this year... I was introduced to the begining of AMC with its introduction.. have watched it all these years. This show became my escape to everyday life and knowing I could sit for one hour and know I was connected to what felt like an extension of my family... well now it is like there was some one moved in next door blocking me from visiting with family two doors down.. and like it is going to be ok to view them online like skype or something so I will be missing so much more... sorry.. guess there are somethings in my life I am not prepared to change and this is one... I agree life goes on and things need to change.. however, as my dad and his father would say.. if it aint broke do not fix it... well as you said.. can not do much when we are but one person.. but wanted to let you know you are not alone.. I think like you do... and hope I can find a way to watch afternoon tv again.. cause as of right now like you I have stopped watching the two other shows I watched so as not to be further disappointed... Thank you for voicing your opinion so I do not feel alone in my thoughts...
Stupid ... This wasn't a Finale? Where the heck was the GREAT writing that made me watch the show? STUPID ... felt SOOO ripped off ... and foolish for looking forward tor the last show ... anymore ALL MY CHILDREN :ONLINE" FORGET-IT ... I mean, let me say, "I DON'T GIVE A DAMN" ... GOOD-BYE! All My Children Rip Me Off ... That's the TRUTH! Should of had Barnabas Collins enter the room ... plus what about Palmer and the Nano Tech stuff ... cloning? Daaa... Horrible last TV show ... Good bye to YOU AMC!!! I thought I gave a damn, but, I guess not! "REFUND!" It's not how you enter a relationship it's how you leave one ... I rate the finale a weak "3" Thank goodness for JR and David ... where was Caleb? Daaaa ....
I think ABC made a big mistake when they cancelled AMC and OLTL...but thankfully they will live on via internet which I personally think is the future for all TV shows...I know that AMC and OLTL will go on while we watch network television die...my concolences to nework television
I agree with you allready signed up to watch amc and oltl on the internet!!! I allready miss amc! i have watched for 40 years now. Missed the first 1.
yes! so glad to hear Ryan/Cameron is still going to be on! come on Debbie/Angie come back! (wink Koyani)
II THINK IT WAS A GOOD SHOW,REMEMBER IT WAS NOT THE END.IF YOU LOVE AMC FOLLOW THEM ON THE WEB
AS THEY SAY WE WILL ALL MEET AGAIN,NOW YOU CAN WATCH IT WHEN YOU LIKE ,
TV IS GETTING TOO COSTLY,I GUESS THE WEB IS CHEAPER
ENJOY LIFE IT IS SO SHORT LOVE YOU AMC WILL LOOK FORWARD TO SEE YOU ON THE WEB:)
I agree Fran. Internet seems to be the direction it's all going. Just remember, soaps started from radio, went to tv, now the internet. AMC is ahead of it. They have a great show and I look forward to more.
....What did you expect.... I didnt watch it...never did but... just from reading this little piece its 2 be expected.... gun fire goes off...regardless if she was shot & killed... few months later she would be back.... always the same bull w/these soaps.....boring
Not nearly as boring as someone like yourself who says they know nothing about a subject and then give an opinion anyway. Get off your high-horse and get a life.
VERY UNHAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unhappy ABC dumped AMC for another talk show with nobodies. Unhappy that it is the end of the era. They cancelled it because of declining ratings, and now think fans will wait for 4 MONTHS to see if/when and how this all works out for an "online version
I see the chew being canned for either 5 weeks or 5 months due to no ratings seriously who will watch the chew?
It doesn't matter whether the new show lasts 5 years or 5 weeks, ABC will never replace it with another soap. They cost too much and fewer and fewer people watch them. I suspect in another 5 years there won't be any soaps on afternoon network tv.
Television has become so sad.....nothing but dysfunctional people who are paid way too much....whar is more sad is that this is what people want to watch.......no talent on those shows.....and sure we need yet another talk show , going to pick and choose if I watch any ABC shows at all......
I will truly miss this program. I have watched it off and on for years. Thank god for the DVR; once I could record it and watch at my leisure I was instantly hooked back on Pine valley. I recorded it and LOVED IT. I too was disappointed in the ending. An internet version just won't be the same because I'm sure there are a number of actors that won't be interested, it seems like a step down from TV and I would imagine most would want to move up.
What's more entertaining is the fact that ABC thinks they can put some stupid show on The Chew, seriously the name makes me want to puke, their stupid little play on "The View" which I also hate. I hope faithful All My Children Viewers will REFUSE to watch the stupid replacement and show ABC what a huge mistake they made. Wouldn't it be great for the Chew to FLOP and ABC bring AMC back – woo hoo, I can still dream.
Babe needs to be back. Who is the other woman Dr. Hayward broght back to life?? Please let it be Babe!
So who was the other person Dr. David Hayward saved ? That was not fair the show did not tell us......
Another network is CRAZY not to pick up All My Children. Facebook had WELL over 400,000 loyal fans and those are JUST the people who even knew about the site on Facebook, go online, etc. Can you imagine the loyal fans out there....bet well over a million.
Also to leave us with such a cliffhanger...makes one only think someone has something up their sleeve. Can there be a real Erica Kane movie in the works and not just on All My Children, as planned with Kip Sterling and Erica Kane herself ???
An interesting thought.
Maybe that is something that we will find out when the show goes viral. Maybe it is Babe.
It wasn't a great ending, but how can you summarize 40 years of intense plots into one 60 minute episode? You can't. Love the show in its entirety and not for one episode.
Not only did it stink....technically it wasn't 60 minutes....commercials every 3 minutes really stunk!
We want BABE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL, speak for yourself, cause WE (those of us who think the Carey's were among the worst things to happen to AMC in its 41 years) do NOT want Babe back. Dropping a house (ok, the Comback) on that witch was the ONLY thing Pratt did right during his time on AMC. :)
But the ending was such a fail. Especially since Jacob Young won't even be part of the web series. So they are gonna need a new JR and if there's a new JR, what's the point of bringing back Babe...especially if she's a recast too? The chemistry between Jacob Young and Alexa Havins was the ONLY thing that sold that couple.
It was lousy. The entire hour seemed forced and brought to life some truly bad acting. The loyal fans deserved better than this claptrap ending. =(
I agree....what I don"t understand, is how did ALL the people involved think this was a good finale.....maybe just kissing IT!
like the whole 40+ wasnf some bad acting really esp Ms lucci
I was hoping that the guy (Junior?) sneaking around would have blown up the mansion where they were having the party. The web edition could have started with the survivors of the blast.
How about a huge earthquake?
Zombie attack–with Dr. Hayward's resurrected characters attacking the "living" characters?
Just something providing the TV audience with an ending would have sufficed.
Even having Susan Lucci and Regis Philbin as the couple who "imagined" the series. They could have woke up together Newhart style.
Did the show somehow end Thursday, not Friday?
They better not end "One Life To Live" in a similar fashion!
TV still is more prevalent than good internet connections. I won't be watching either show on the internet anytime soon because my community doesn't offer a connection speedy enough for video watching. Have a little loyalty to the TV viewers who won't be able to continue following these shows.
all soap operas are stupid. they keep the loyal fans though. i have never ever watched them unless tied down and forced to do so. people that have to see the things that drag on and on, barely moving the story line, must have boring lives.
I have to agree with everyone about the end of All My Childern. I hope that they will make a movie so we can find out the ending. And I also hope that they will put all the shows on DVD. so you can have to watch over and over again. After all they do for all the other shows. Thats just my opinon.
I agree...........I watched for 20 years missed the last 10. I DVR'd the last week, was caught up by Tues, and then they end with a hokey Gone With The Wind ripoff line and a bad Soprano's blackout. I expected more respect for the history than tired cliches.
I may be showing my age here, but I immediately thought about the ending: So, it's not "Who shot JR" (which was the cliffhanging ending of a Dallas season) but "Who did JR shoot?"
I stopped watching AMC a long time ago but because I enjoyed it for so many years before I watched the last episode. I thought it had a good ending. Erica has always been compared to Scarlett O'Hara so it was Ok with me. As for the final seconds, the show had already showed back clips, had speeches made at the party so it was more than appropriate to end on a bang...literally. After all life goes on and to wonder what happens next is what the soap opera world is all about and so ended great. And to be honest who really cares to know? Everything usually is anti-climatic anyway. Good Job "AMC".
Nobody works harder than soap opera actors. For those who do not go online, I would hope that they do some other shows or movies, because given the time that other actors have to look at a script, they are stellar. They work so hard, but most of the time the script is cliche after cliche. The script isn't so much a cliffhanger, but a tribute to the actors who put in so much hard work for?
They should have just had the "space junk" slam into Pine Valley & everyone be wiped out. There, end of story.
So, soap operas, a genre that have always been campy, boring and drawn-out, are expected to increase in quality when they are ready to go off the air?
No I want be watching it on line nor will I be watching anything on ABC. Die hard fans had watched the show since the beginning and this is how we are paid back by "The Chew" really, you got to be kidding me. When is ABC going to take the rest of the soaps off. I have stopped watching them already, never know when they will disappear too. Might as well get used to it. I can't believe ratings would have been low enough to remove this show. I know I am only one person but ABC lost a loyal fan. Goes to show that loyality means absolutely nothing.
