There’s no question that Kirstie Alley has seriously slimmed down thanks to her stint on “Dancing With the Stars” last season, but style guru Tim Gunn says the actress is not the size 4 she's been touted as.
The “Project Runway” star says vanity sizing is to blame for the clothing confusion.
Svelte Kirstie even worked the runway at the Zang Toi show during New York City's Fashion Week.
But during an interview on Tampa’s 98.7 radio show, Gunn responded to a question on whether the actress was the aforementioned smaller size, and explained why Alley is not actually a size 4: "There is a phenomenon out there right now that I call the lying deceptive shell game of vanity sizing. In fact a 4 is really a 6 or an 8."
Gunn broke down the idea of vanity sizing for listeners, citing an experiment he did at Parsons.
"We took a size 8 dress from 1980, one from 1990 and one from 2000 and compared them - the difference between them was two and a half inches in the waist alone!"
The fashion expert said he believes Alley's true size is probably between a size 8 and size 10.
But whatever the label reads, Gunn thinks Alley "looks fabulous.”
"People are too size conscious," he adds. "More importantly, how do you look in your clothes?"
