Lil Wayne tops Billboard with 964,000 sold

Never mind his apparent affection for animal print pants: Lil Wayne's officially landed at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Billboard, Weezy's album "Tha Carter IV," which went on sale digitally immediately following the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28, bowed at No. 1 this week.

It's the third No. 1 for Lil Wayne, who previously accomplished the feat with "Tha Carter III" and "I Am Not A Human Being."

Despite being leaked - and garnering not-so-favorable reviews - "Tha Carter IV's" sales totaled to 964,000 units sold, making it the biggest sales week for a hip-hop album, or from a male artist,  since Wayne's "Tha Carter III." (That album sold 1.01 million when it debuted in June 2008.)

It looks like the rapper was right about the album's leaks not really being a bad thing.

"It just means people want to hear it," he told MTV. "I mean, 'cause there're people's albums that come out that can be leaked and don't leak, so I'm glad mines leaked."

lil wayne = lil talent. He doesn't deserve the fame and money. There are so many other more deserving, "real" musicians. What can't people see his lack of ability. I'm a professional musician, songwriter and producer. I would never give him a record deal.

Eminem's music has never been crap. Maybe one album wasn't that great but some of Em's best music came when he was pilled up and high. And who cares anyway. He has earned the right to make the choice to do drugs if he chooses. Do you think he really cares about people's opinions about him when he's chillin in his big ass house with piles of cash which allow him to do whatever he wants? What people really should be looking at is how our government pushes education down our throats and when we get degrees we still can't find work. Yet people who drop out of high school learn how to rap and make a lavish life for themselves and we hate on them for it. They obviously are smarter than most high school and college graduates because they found something that makes them rich without needing an education to do so.... I think the hate comes from people who wish they were smart enough to do the same. Period.

Steve you're right. Rap was so much better back when Biggie and Pac were still around. The game has gone to crap since then. The only real artist that has kept it afloat is Eminem. He can't do it alone though. When you got idiots like Kanye running around its bound to be bad!!!

America should be so proud of what they call talent today. All things so called talents will all be broke in five years, buying their so called bling, huge houses, and very expensive cars. And then they'll say, Yo, where did all mt money go. Pathetic
that people support this folks as talented, when they couldn't even get an education.

if you look at his overall career, Lil Wayne is not trash. Unfortunately, his downfall came with auto-tune and all that rock music (and by downfall i mean in music quality, not sales). Just like Eminem when he was pilled up, his music sucked. When Lil Wayne went crazy with his codiene, his music sucked. He is making somewhat of a turn around to his old days, but he is just going with the generations. He puts out what people wanna hear. I only like about 40% of the carter IV, but with that said, I'm only 1 person out of the 900,000+ people that bought it. 10 out of 10 times i will listen to his "Hot Boyz" or "tha drought" mixtapes over what hes put out in the last 3 yrs. But the man is selling records and is just a money making machine. Can't hate a dude for being fully on his grind in literally every aspect possible. If there's a way he can put money in his pocket, hes donig it. I just wish he made a full CD like the old days – 4 verses on every track just going in, most of em without a hook, JUST BARS AFTER BARS.

You can top the charts by selling 50,000 albums out the gate if it's released at the right time. It means nothing. The true test is where the album will be 2 weeks from now, a month from now.

Alot of people are on here talking trash about the poor man and know darn well if they were riding down the street and heard "how to love" or any other of his hits would start singing the words or even still listen to it. So what if he sound like he cant talk.. he probably cant.. but money change things. Ya'll are talking about these bands out here playing in bars and stuff and how they cant get recorded but wayne can.. guess what?? Maybe something isnt right with them or their music or maybe they need to contact the right people. That is what is wrong with the world today. Everyone is out there complaining about someone else and worried about what other people are doing and always focus on the negative. Be happy for him. Stop posting bad things and be happy. Even if you wish you had million and someone else do be happy they have it. Everyone need to stop focusing on negative stuff... WAYNE IM HAPPY YOU SOLD ALOT OF RECORD AND YOUR MAKING MONEY. Focus on what you do best and dont stop. LET THESE LAME ASS CNN HATERS BE YOUR MOTIVATOR!

It's really sad that this many people actually like Lil Wayne's "music." He was at Bonnaroo this year (a huge music festival in Tennesse if you don't know), and as I expected, he sounds completely awful when it is just him, some beats, and a mic. It's all opinion when it comes to music, but I am a huge hip-hop fan and have absolutely no interest in Lil Wayne's album. There are plenty of good hip-hop artists out there and Lil Wayne is not one of them by a long shot. Don't confuse album sales for talent.

Come folks, his college education has nothing to do with his music and rapping education. If the man wants to take classes on basket weeving or the science of how the world was created, that is his business and his personal life but when the president singles you out as a great rapper and performer, come on folks he is in good company. Buy the cd, rapp music has come a long way from likes of Tupak and Biggie Small.

Congrats to wayne on his success. However I want to send a shout out to all the real artist out there. The ones who perform and write there own material, pouring there heart out to the world, regardless of getting any recognition, from the now "water down Billboard charts and wack ass MTV". Rappers now in days don't give a flying F about our communities. there's something I must say. How many people do we help in our lifetime? Seems to me that rappers now in days value "Hip Pop" Yes I said it correct. What happen to real Hip Hop. A Rapper now in days is more concerned on fu**in twitter followers and Facebook "Likes" then keeping it 100 percent real. I believe its time to take responsibility and put out more positive material out for the youth. Time to educate the New Generation. Put down the weapons and supply the tools to construct a better America. Let's provide more Positive energy we can all use to in power us all with the knowledge to speak and teach every kid in the streets. I grew up in the ghetto. Half my friends are dead or locked up. I was raised by my father who took care of all 5 of us as a single parent. Best thing he ever taught us was never to be a follower and to live your own life to the fullest helping people out instead of knocking people out. One Love and Peace too all. Were all the struggle together. -jtcuddie

Even with a collage degree, u might not even be able to take care of ur self in the long run. Either ur dead or in a senior home dealing with nurses. The millions of dollars that the artis r earning with the music they make, is helping them stay sane and out of living in poverty or being homeless and forgotten by society which is going on right now with other unknown people.. A message to lil wayne's camp, help and share the life that u r experiencing with strangers and not family members.

Is this just another example of "it's not what you know, but WHO you know" that you see in so many other industries? Would anybody know Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, if Dr Dre (if my memory serves me right) didn't take a chance on him? Probably not. While I really like Mr Slim Shady, there are probably dozens of more talented rappers who will never see the light of day. The entertainment industry is protective of their slice of that multi-billion dollar pie.

Nuff said? How about Hardly Said. Your ramble has to be read multiple times to even understand which words to group together to discern what you are trying to communicate. Run-on-sentence or not, you should use articles of speech like helping-verbs ("stuff garbage" = "stuff IS garbage"); commas to separate word groups and a period here and there wouldn't hurt either. I thought he already had his degree from uop. I can just say the classes are a joke until you get into the 300 or 400 level.

Lil wayne does have his GED. He also went to the University of Houston in 05 and took classes with University of Phoenix online to study PSY. I'm pretty sure he does have a college degree, just can't confirm this at the moment.
