'Bridesmaids' actress latest to join 'Magic Mike'Doling out casting news by the spoonful has become a movie promotion mainstay - for a good stretch this summer, not a day seemed to go by without someone else being added to "The Hunger Games" – but "Magic Mike" is a little different. At first, the announcement that Channing Tatum was set to star in a male stripper movie based on his experience working at a Tampa club was met with plenty of smirks and sarcasm (or was that just us?). Better yet, it was to be directed by Steven Soderbergh and would also star Alex Pettyfer as the younger stripper who looks up to Tatum's character as a mentor. But then little bits of casting news were revealed, well timed and always managing to top what came before it. Talk about a tease.
By the time they announced that the line-up consisted of Tatum, Pettyfer, Matt Bomer and oft-shirtless Matthew McConaughey with "True Blood's" Joe Manganiello in final talks to play "Big Dick Richie" - all of whom get to work in a place called "Xquisite" - the PR for this film went from ludicrous to ludicrously entertaining. And it's only getting better: According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Bridesmaids" star Wendi McLendon-Covey is the latest addition to the flick that we hope, at the very least, will rival "Showgirls" in the stripper movie hall of fame. We don't know what role she's playing just yet, but she sounds pleased with it. Well, at least as pleased as she is with her new vacuum. No, really. "Thanks so much to all of you for the kind words about this whole MAGIC MIKE thing," the actress posted on her Facebook page. "But I have to tell you that the biggest blessing so far this year has been the purchase of our Dyson Vacuum Cleaner this past Sunday. I'm not kidding – it really is an exceptional machine. Happy Wednesday!" |

ZZZZZZZZZ
Hmm. Verhoevan who gave us Showgirls, also gave us Basic Instinct. So it wasn't a far stretch that he gave us Showgirls.
Where in soderbergh's dark resume will it show that this will be another Showgirls? More like another Boogie Nights. Not sure how Showgirly a true story about a kid who started stripping at the age of 18 is!?
I am 6th, getting bettert at this! Soon to vbe first!
I liked Showgirls. I grew up watching Saved By The Bell, so to see the preppy, brainy cheerleader Jesse wind up working some seedy Vegas dive culminated many of my schoolboy fantasys. She had an ugly butt though.
McLendon-Covey was real funny on "Reno 9-1-1" and is a hoot now in those meat product commercials where she plays the sort of ID-version of the housewives making meals for their families.
Haven't seen the "Bridesmaids" movie yet.
She's doing pretty darned well if she can afford a Dyson vacuum!
As an actress, she does commercials professionally. If she recommends a product on Facebook or by tweeting you can be guaranteed she's getting PAID for it. Hilton and the Kardashians tapped into that financial stream a long time ago. The media outlets have expanded, but the business of delivering goods and services to the marketplace are pretty much the same. Wendy's casual statement about a high-end vacuum - "Oh, by the by" - is a technique and a pitch.
Joe "Big Dick Ritchie" Manganiello is also starring, huh? What's his character's name? Oh, I thought that was his regular "handle."
Sounds F-ing awful.
Agree, and the lineup seems like a who's who of Hollywood d0uchebags.
